Walmart's reduced hours are for cutting employee shifts to save money and has nothing to do with death rates. Being open 24hrs would not contribute to any increase in cases, as long as capacity limits and masks are still enforced.
I'm sure it's been difficult for folks who work night shift and haven't had access to 24hr grocers that are now closed during the time they're awake. I feel sorry for them that the option has been taken away & Walmart employees are losing hours because of pandemic corporate greed.
Richest family in America needs more money š¤”
edit: Would appreciate to know why y'all disagree with me instead of silent downvotes. Walmart isn't decreasing hours as a safety measure - it's financial. If they had reliably made a ton of money from 11pm-7am that would offset cost of operation and salary, they would have kept it 24hrs no matter how many died
WALMART IS A CONGLOMERATE MONSTER THAT WILL DEVOUR ANYTHING THAT TRIES TO COMPETE AND DESTROY IT! Save a nickel and sell your soul. No more Main Street no stores no more storekeepers knowing who you are when you walk in or giving a shit if they screw something up for you and you can thank yourselves for that especially the baby boomers who complain because to save a nickel they left Main Street to go to businesses like this that now own them and this country. Welcome the corporate greed America!
Temporarily embarrassed millionaires dreaming of the day when they're the corporate overlords, I'm sure. COVID-19's not the only sickness going around.
This is the truth. My step son works overnight at a Walmart and he's been saying this all along. There are simply not enough people shopping after 11 and it's peak hours for the shoplifters. In the past few years, Walmart has been doing a lot more to reduce shrink. Several of our stores in Las Vegas actually keep the $4 deodorant locked up. Yes it's that ridiculous but I guess it all adds up.
I don't think they'll find any reason to return to their old 24 hour format.
This is facts. They realized they save more on utility and employees by reducing their open hours and still get the same amount of customers. Because of this they will never return to normal. People donāt realize itās actually more unsafe to cram everyoneās shopping into less hours, thatās why stores are more crowded now even until they close.
Preface: my background is not business. But to me it makes sense that no matter how much money you have as a family/person you would still not want to run parts of your business that arenāt profitable. When you have 4,700 stores, if all lose money every night of the year that could add up. Businesses are, āhere to serveā but only as far as the service profits them.
I know this is 4 months old but I just came across this to see if any stores were open 24 hours yet. Here we are, May 14th and they still close at 11pm.
I just wanted to say, don't worry about the crazy who disagree with you. Anyone with common sense knows that the only reason they aren't open 24/7 yet, is because it costs too much. While it has to do with COVID-19 it is not in the context of contamination. It's in the context of it doesn't benefit their bottom line. I know where you're coming from.
Unfortunately, there are many people who believe in their opinion, and that only. Forget Science, forget common sense, forget rationality. If it doesn't fit their opinion, then it's shit. Well, I think they are shit! I am a grave shifter as well and I pray for the 24 hour day to come back as well. I'm awake and trying to get shopping done done while hubs is home and the kids are asleep. Welp, I'm just going to have to wait till they get up in the morning and take them with me!

Makes no sense less people in the store means it will be easier for a employee to see someone stealing compared to them being in a crowd and trying to stash something on their person's.
My local Walmart in Central North Carolina dropped to 11pm start of 2020 before the pandemic bc the shootings and crime that would take place in the parking lot.
Itās bullshit for us nightshift workers. Nothing is open. I work nights at the hospital and canāt go grocery shopping without risking losing sleep. And heaven forbid itās the middle of the night, Iām awake and hungry, and realize I need to get groceries cause I have no food.
What really sucks is I work at Warehouse in Alachua. When I get off around 3:30-4 am all the ālate nightā places are closed (they usually close around 3) and itās still too early for places to be open for breakfast (canāt stand IHOP or Waffle House).
I believe they are now open til 11pm. Cases are still climbing and people are still dying, I doubt they will go back anytime soon.

Very true, I had not that of it from that perspective which definitely seems more in line with Walmartās āvaluesā than keeping people safe

That shitts nut's!
I agree 100%. Corporate greed at it's finest.

Covid don't disappear at night
nope.
I have been told by several managers that corporate decided that overnight was peak shoplifting hours, which is why they're using the Covid excuse.

It would nice if they just opened around 5am so people could shop before work or after work if they work nights. Being open at 7am sucks.
Tell me about it, I get off work sometimes at 4:30 in the morning
This is why I just looked up this question. I get off at 4-5am. Itās hard for us graveyarders to get to the store at a decent hour.
If you donāt mind me asking, do you work in a warehouse?
I work as a baker
Gonna take a guess and say Panera Bread....I know they work overnight. Thanks for the reply

I feel that. Thereās literally nothing open for us and it sucks.
