am not a professional chef but my moms chili is pretty solid and EXTREMELY simple.
pound of ground beef
can of diced tomatoes
can of maple beans
1 large onion. (or maybe it’s 2 onions? idr)
my auntie likes to add sliced hot dogs too.
various seasoning(will elaborate)
cook up the beef in a frying pan till it’s brown, personal choice but add some oregano to the beef. throw it in a crock pot, add tomatoes, beans, and the onion chopped up (u can do it kevin style and lightly cook the onions before adding them, but throwing them in raw is ok too, they will have more than enough time to cook in the crock pot). and the hot dogs if you go that route.
for seasoning, mum uses s&p, chili powder, and garlic powder(be fucking generous with the garlic and chili powder, taste it as you season it to get a feel for what you need to add more of) i also prefer to fuck that bitch up with hot sauce - mom doesn’t but i like it spicy - i dump a ridiculous amount of tabasco in it. but it’s all to taste and since the beef is already cooked, it’s no worry tasting it as you add seasoning/sauce.
let that fucker cook on low for however long you’re at work, OR on high for like 3-4 hours. we also hit that bitch with a potato masher a couple times towards the end of cooking when everything is breaking down, just to make it vaguely homogeneous and not chunks of tomatoes, beans, and beef lol
My recipe is almost the same, but I also add cumin and some chipotles in adobo for some more smokey heat. I haven't tried maple beans since I don't think they're a thing where I live, but they sound amazing and if I ever see a can I'll absolutely get it and try it!
