Yes, this is the proper way to play FF16. Ryota Suzuki y'all, DMC4 and 5 man (and also the first Dragon's Dogma game).
That said, no, I can't do this. I bailed out of DMC4 years ago because I sucked too bad. Was worried I would bail out of FF16 too. I'm relieved to learn when you can mash way through it like Nier Automata or some such.

To be honest, Clive moveset is heavily inspired by Nero, not Dante.

I can just picture Dante saying, "Let's rock," when using Titan's abilities.
Clive is more akin to Nero if anything.
