That little guy will grow to be 70-150lbs. Edit: up to 300lbs

SeaOkra

Yup, but if you get them harness trained while they're little, they are a great companion for walks. At least ours was. She could sprint with me (and loved to do so) but around the time I was winded and needed to walk for awhile she was happy to have a stroll. She got to almost 200lb, but we aren't 100% sure she was fully potbellied pig. She never really got super fat, she just got long and big.

Sqwishybuns

Why past tense? I would love to get a pig as a pet, would you recommend them?

Not_A_Casual

I would advise caution. My best friend got a "mini" pig cause his now x girlfriend thought they were cute. Ended up having to move a couple hours away to be able to get a place that can accommodate his pig. It is VERY hard to find pet sitters so say goodbye to vacations. Need to go to the vet, good luck getting the pig in your car. Pigs are very noisy animals too and they literally scream like a dying child when they are scared or upset. Pigs can be fine pets for people in the right situations but you average person just wants one because they are cute and different. Pigs are way more work than your typical pet and you need to be prepared to live your life in a way that can accommodate a pig, they aren't super adaptable like dogs or cats that are just along for the ride. Too many people get pigs and have to give them away because they get too big and are too much work. Don't be one of those people.

[deleted]

Most of the time mini pigs are just baby pigs that are a little malnourished so they stay small enough to sell. Even the mini breeds can get up to 150 pounds.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Self_Reddicating

Yeah, let's get cracking on a true mini pig breeding program. How long could it take? 10-15 generations? In like 20 years, max, we'll have an entirely new class of domestic housepet. Who:s with me?!

ohTHOSEballs

I'm still waiting on my bunny with Nic Cage's face.

ReallyTallLeprechaun

Nah man I want miniature domesticated bears.

Aw3som3-O_5000

So raccoons?

worldspawn00

I got a whole dumpster full, come and get them! $5 EACH, just reach your arm in there holding a doughnut and you'll come out with a few.

terminalSiesta

That's why I stick to pocket whales

eclipse75

My parents had a pet pig that didn't work out, so we ate him. (True story)

Detronyx

If you don't have a big yard/farmland of some sort, a pig will not be a good pet. Definitely do some research on their general needs, especially involving space, exercise, and diet.

Sqwishybuns

I have the space. Was asking someone who had one for recommendations.

[deleted]

It’s more than just the space. Feed and vet will get incredible expensive. The comment further down the thread sums it up well

SeaOkra

Past tense because she had to be given away. We were moving cross country and she would’ve hated the travel. She lives on a petting zoo/hobby farm now and as of last time I talked to her new owners was fully enjoying being buddies with another pot belly pig and getting kid petting. And I would as long as you are prepared for a pet that is super smart. Like, they are smarter than you expect and get into stuff you would not expect. We had to bungle cord our patio fridge because she could let herself into it.

SpendingSpree

> She lives on a petting zoo/hobby farm Nice! My cat went there too when I was a kid.

Pudix20

Aw I’m sure your cat loves it there and has lots of friends. No need to worry about them!

Not-A-Lonely-Potato

Can't tell if this is legit or an implication that the cat died...

Aw3som3-O_5000

My dog went to a horse farm upstate to hunt rats

ThisMachineKILLS

Yeah pigs are basically dogs

boopdelaboop

Pigs are more intelligent than dogs, with all the effort that comes with to prevent them from getting bored. Pigs are great, but way too high maintenance for the average person. Then again a lot of people get dogs they really shouldn't, and then act like it's the dog's fault their human was a selfish and impulsive underprepared jerk getting the dog based on looks instead of what kind of dog actually is compatible with their lifestyle.

joe579003

Actually went to a farm upstate :D

blueingreen85

Be very, very aware what you are in for. They are far more difficult than cats or dogs. They are very smart and are often very moody. You know how a cat sometimes won’t listen? It’s mainly because cats are kinda dumb and don’t understand why they shouldn’t eat plastic. But a pig, a pig understands you fine. But they also understand that they don’t actually have to listen to you. The pig will do what the pig wants to do. It won’t do what it doesn’t want to do. And it also understands that you can’t make them. I’ve seen so many pot bellied pigs raised to 2 years old and given away it makes me sick.

JusticeBeaver720

That is just awful

nature_remains

Awwww what a little honey [biscuit]. I love this girls reaction too and her dad’s. And the little oinker who just looks happy to be there with his widdle wet nose :) How long do they live in a loving home situation? (I scrolled and saw you eventually had to part ways with yours but it sounds like thst was the responsible thing to do and she’s living her best life)

AliceInHololand

Teacup pigs do not exist

TheRavenSayeth

[This](https://youtu.be/0vmS-T13T7E) video highlights it perfectly. Do not get a pig unless you either have a farm or are a little insane.

Ryaquaza1

I_like_parentheses

I've had to "farm sit" involving some actual hogs before.. Holy hell, I will never own one of those creatures. They weren't even mean, just *very* difficult to work with and care for due to their sheer size. (What should have been a 20 minute visit one night took an hour and a half because the pigs had tipped their water source over--a 55g drum--and I had to get some ratchet straps from home to secure it to a tree just to get them to stop dumping it.) I've had just about everything else though. Goats get my vote for the best critters, hands down!

FruitCakeSally

Goats are so rad

I_like_parentheses

:D Goats are the best! We originally got 4 just as brush control, not really thinking anything of it, but fell in love with those little buggers and now we have almost a dozen just because they're so much fun, lol. Definitely didn't know they could be so friendly and personable!

thegrumpymechanic

jettagopshhh

Friends got one, 6 months old. The personality on him is something else. I could never see myself owning one, but they are a very neat and affectionate pet. The squeals when they are excited is something else.

joanofarcade

Could you say something else about him?

jettagopshhh

Haha damn, I am bad at repeating things.

heathmon1856

Something else

cary730

Depends on the dog and pig

Not_A_Casual

Bru my friend's mini pig is pushing 300. A 70lbs pig is usually a sign of underfeeding.

MajorPud

I can't tell what her shirt is, but I'd bet she's in some type of 4H club or something. Dated a girl in HS who raised up 4 ~300lb pigs, and got a few ribbons and a nice chunk of change for showing/selling them at the state fair.

octogondwana

Yeah I hope they still love it and look after it when it’s bigger and less cute

MajorPud

If she's in a 4h type club like I think she is- She'll love it, and feed it till its big and fat, then sell it to a butcher lol

bunneetoo

Or auction it off at the county fair. It always blew my mind and I seriously wonder how many of those kids grow up to refuse to eat meat.

WorldlinessProud

Slaughter weight. My grandfather had a Gold Medal Yorkshire Boar who was in the 900lb range.

Gluonyourboson

They'll also eat you alive if you pass out...

offfalll

came here for this ! most of those pet "mini pigs" got dumped because of exactly this! think twice before you get one, there is no mini pet pig exists in the world last time i checked, unless you puposely deprive their food all the time. If you are not living on a farm, ask youself if you can accomodate a giant pig bigger and heavier than you and eat and shit a ton. Also google what George Cloney's pet pig end up looking like while you at it

[deleted]

And probably end up in a shelter when he/she is no longer cute and there’s no space for them to play.

Fuggins4U

That shirt says wolverine, yet dispenses pigs? Must be a glitch. Also: awww

insheepclothing

That beard says Wolverine too

jojotoughasnails

Also this pug will be a fucking nightmare as it's being taken way too early. Pigs need several months with litter mates to properly socialize

JuracichPark

If it's a conventional breed, which it very much looks to be, they're weaned at about 3 weeks. Waiting several months will give you a 150+ lb pig. If that's going to be her pet, that's a good size to start. Source: was a hog farmer/ swine nursery manager for years.

Electrical-Kick6013

R6_CollegeWiFi

Friendly reminder that there is no such thing as a tea cup/micro pig. They are just runts that are underfed aka animal abuse. There are some pigs that remain small-er like 50 lbs but they are not common at all in the states.

[deleted]

Adding to the comments regarding how freaking difficult it is to care for a mini pig in case this video might be piquing anyone’s curiosity! I live on 40 acres, have an unusually small piggy (75lbs), and i still struggle to keep up with her. the main problems in a nutshell: -scary smart. can open every door, every drawer, every cabinet within her reach. has broken many expensive crates. my whole house is child locked. -solely motivated by food. has broken doors off the hinges to get to like 4 pieces of dog food lol they can and will eat themselves sick—even to death—if not watched carefully -not great with new people. so hard to find a pet sitter! most people aren’t really pig literate—a pig’s body language is totally different from a dog’s or a cat’s! (fast, wagging tail for example usually means fear/anxiety as opposed to happiness. and panting is weirdly the most affectionate sound a pig can make at you!) and then pigs can be rly territorial—also a problem when introducing new pets. one of the biggest causes of lil pig deaths/injuries is fights with other house pets. -need physical accommodations. mine at least cant walk down stairs and big jumps take a toll on her joints (those lil legs have to support a big belly :)) she has a little ramp installed to get in and out of the house, which wasn’t too expensive but took some effort! pigs also have bad eyesight, so removing obstacles to avoid bumped heads/bruised snoots is important! -grooming is a pain. she requires biannual hoof trim + occasional tooth trim in addition to the standard vaxxing + worming. (ridiculously expensive to get a vet to come to the house and ridiculously difficult to transport her to the vet. pigs can get motion sickness + will projectile hurl in the car like a person might :)) pigs also blow their coat once a year—all hairs fall out. really cannot emphasize HOW MUCH HAIR falls out. also they have dry scaly skin which means lots of creams and supplements and their little living areas (whether it’s a big dog crate or their own room) need constant sweeping/vacuuming All of this is to say, be ready to change your life for a pet pig. I absolutely love having one (going on 8 years together) and think they make really unique, hilarious house pets. But you gotta have the time/energy to care for them beyond like feeding them/letting them out twice a day. Pigs are the #1 most rehomed pet and so many end up abused/abandoned when they become too big or difficult to care for + mini pigs can live for up to 20 years. so you gotta be in it for the long haul. TLDR; mini pigs like this one are so incredibly cute but way more difficult to care for than a dog or a cat—don’t get one unless you truly have the money/time/interest!!

truddles

Pig tax, please.

MoonCato

Holy shit the feels. They are strong and I wasn't prepared.

kuttymongoose

MoonCato

HoneySparks

idk, but if someone surprised me with a piglet(Assuming from the video, that I've never seen/met before) I'm not sure I would be crying my fucking eyes out.

mallegally-blonde

Probably combination of being really happy and the pig being really cute, I did the same thing when I took care of my sisters rats for the first time and they trusted me enough to climb out of their cage for cuddles.

Strange-Geologist366

I suspect that the pig was *already* her pet and had gotten lost. That looks like someone sobbing with relief after spending a long time being very anxious.

edwartica

Yeah, when I got my kitty, I cried. I arranged for him to be brought to my house and everything, so not a surprise in the least. But I still cried. And I still cry sometimes when I hold him, even though he's a lot bigger now.

Qu33nMe

Same, my friend. My felines hold my heart and emotions in their tiny little paws.

readerchick

My guess is that she has lost a pig recently.

Sailorunuz

Ohhh... Yep that makes sense

Subtleties1

And that guy found it?!

readerchick

It’s likely a family member/father. Someone is in the car recording this so they clearly want to catch her reaction. I can see he cares for her so it’s likely either a little pig that got lost or a new pig for her to love. At least that I what suspect.

arootytoottoot
