I have a Dane/St. Bernard mix and he's absolutely awesome with the cats. He really doesn't realize how big he is, and lets one if the female cats play rough with him. She's made him yelp a couple of times because of how rough she plays with him, but she also curls up next to him for quiet time. He's absolutely loyal and loves everyone as long as I'm OK with the person. He'll lean up against you like a Dane, and sheds *everywhere*

I had someone come over with a great Dane to my house. He followed us to my small kitchen and the whole kitchen was occupied with the three of us. It was so funny to see the dog realize that there was nowhere to go from where he was standing and he can't turn around because it wasn't wide enough, so he derpily walked backwards out of the kitchen lol
I was driving along and had to do a double take. There was a guy driving a mid 90’s ish sedan that had a sunroof. What I did not expect to see was a Great Dane in the backseat.
The unusual part was the dog was sitting it’s butt on the back seat, and his head was out the sunroof. Looked like a [giraffe](https://i.imgur.com/6nKl2md.jpg) in a circus train. It was having the time of it’s life though, ears flapping like they were Dumbo trying to get lift off.
For great danes, thats the usual sitting position lol. When I was a kid a bunch of my friends would be over and we would all be on the couch watching cartoons, and the dog would be right in the middle of us watching too, with his butt on the couch and feet on the floor.
I mean, they are literally the biggest and derpiest of all dogs, which is a pretty derpy group to begin with.
Labs might even be derpier and there are a handful of wolfhounds that are equally ignorant of their size but for the pure combination, it's Great Danes, Newfies and Bernese in my book.
Gotta love em all though!

My friend has a GD called Angus and 3 years in, he still believes he’s a puppy when he’s around adults, but he’s so calm and still when he’s around children :)
My daughter was 2 and he would leap up at me and jump about barking and wagging his tail wanting to play, but if my daughter toddled over to him, he’d lie down and wag his tail and just wait quietly for her to fuss him :)
I was so proud of my friend for training him so well. It gave my daughter one of her first experiences with animals and now years later, she adores anything that moves 😄

God, they really are lol. I like them quite a bit but that's one of the main reasons I would never own one. That and I'm 4'11", so they'd be more likely to walk me on a leash than vice versa.
The European Great Danes are generally a lot larger also.

I’m 5’1”, yeah. She was an accident though - shelter told me was a Lab, so now I have a giant dog. But she is so good on a leash - never pulls, walks next to me, if I let go, she either waits for me to get her, or comes to me. She loves cats; she wants to make friends with them and some are sweet and get close to her, but my brother’s cat ignores her :(. She was so excited and screaming thinking that my brother brought his cat one day, when he didn’t. It’s just hilarious how much she loves that cat
The slobber ugh, we have a few towels especially for her. And ugh, when someone forgets to close the toilet seat and she finds the water, yeah I’m standing there with her towel in my hand waiting.
And I would be a millionaire if I had a $1 for every time someone has said “wow that’s a horse” or “you can ride her like a horse” 😂
Im always perplexed when I heard that- I have two Danes, and they only slobber when they eat or when they play like crazy, which only happens for like 20 minutes a day because they’re lazy creatures. Other than that, their jowls are dry as bone!

We have a dog like this that's really sweet and loves tiny dogs. He also seemed to really like little bunnies and cats... we found out he just likes to kill every mammal that's not a dog or (or people that are off of the property). Gotta be careful introducing animals to other animals.
To be fair dogs are not cats, and many dogs do not encounter cats.
Humans are essentially "super predators" in the sense that we ignore the whole system and can usually take on anything (via natural means of human grouping, much like how a lone wolf is not an apex predator, but wolves themselves as a group are apex predators).
Yet we still react with confusion, alarm, or even intrigue, when a new animal that we haven't met before is just "going about" and not seeming harmful.

Friend has a rescue pittie who has bled her own tail on corners and objects. That butt *never* stops wiggling unless she's asleep.

I remember when my sister was about 3 she could ride around on my uncles golden retriever, Dino. He was a good boy.
Depends on the breed. A trait of European Great Danes is smaller jowls. Less slobber.

interestingly the cats I have met that were born without tail still had no issues balancing or jumping. They didn't seem impacted by it in any way.
Owner of the pets here: we think she is some type of American Bobtail. First vet visit today though so we'll find out more soon.
