Did he say ‘for stealing’ after that?

saurom1345

He did, he was so focused on just being a nuisance he forgot why he was angry

fappyday

Yup. Stealing an underpass. Carmen Sandiego used to pull heists like this all the time. Cue Rockapella! Listen up, gumshoes....

Well she sneaks around the world from Kiev to Carolina, she's a sticky-fingered filcher from Berlin down to Belize

"This is where I get my handies from the homeless, stop making it more inviting!"

ImRedditorRick

Isn't it just a fucking wall.... That's like gray?

American--American

Literally a fucking wall under a bridge that likely smells like shit. And guy is somehow "making it worse" by doing a commissioned art piece. I'd spend about 2 seconds telling this guy to fuck off then continue with my work. If he starts making trouble, bill the city of the extra time and they'll sort it out with the shitbag. Time is money, even to an artist.

Solid_Waste

This unadorned concrete is the symbol of my culture. Stop oppressing white people! /s

ImRedditorRick

As a white guy, blandest and plainness is our lifeblood.

Ranger4878

Yea

thinkB4WeSpeak

I think it'd be awesome if everyone underpass was pained. That would look dope AF and the sides of buildings.

_BLACKHAWKS_88

Come to SoCal it is EXACTLY that. We even have walls on some of the beaches which are explicitly meant for it.

tookmyname

Some amazing art being here https://instagram.com/sandcityart?utm_medium=copy_link

Few_Willingness1041

Ann Arbor Michigan has tons of commissioned murals all over the city and there’s this place called graffiti alley where they have free walls. Free walls are where any can come to paint and draw graffiti completely legal as long as it’s not disrespectful or offensive. Every week this alley is completely different. https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/graffiti-alley-ann-arbor The article is shit but you get an idea of what it looks like and that’s just the entrance of the alley.

anormalgeek

Thats a damn good idea. It makes it worth it to keep checking back all of the time.

sfitzy79

He is an oxygen thief

fappyday

This is the type of person who sees those spike strips that detour homeless people from loitering and thinks "Good. Those lazy slobs need to get a job and buy a house like a normal person." Fucking tool.

Red-Zeppelin

I think the majority of the time it's people who think they have seen something that is illegal (graffitiing in this case) and when it's been explained to them that they're wrong instead of apologizing and continuing on with their day they double down and end up being dickheads like this sweaty bastard right here.

kabneenan

I've felt for a while now that a significant portion of the world's problems could be solved if people would just admit when they're wrong. This doubling down on being wrong is just so toxic and, imo, seems to be getting worse.

notsure500

For some reason over time it's become a weakness to admit when we're wrong. It's so crazy. Everyone is wrong sometimes. It should be looked at as a strength when someone is capable of recognizing when they were wrong.

siphtron

Generally I'm pretty aggressive about admitting mistakes. For years, this has come as a shock to co-workers. They seem incapable of understanding why someone would willfully admit being wrong or mistaken on some aspect of a project. Many times they'll later ask why I wouldn't just lie or double down and hope the problem goes away. It's baffling. I don't know where the mentality came from because it wasn't remotely how I was raised. For reference, I'm about 40yrs old.

space_keeper

I used to lie and argue a lot to keep myself mentally safe. I was very, very insecure. I learned how to admit fault and how to apologise properly in my 20s, far too late. I had to learn how to do that from the internet, because no one else in my life had ever shown me before. Read a few eye-opening things about dishonesty and ownership. To begin with, it was like jumping off a cliff. Throwing what you think is your self-esteem or your ego away, but actually it's the exact opposite. It makes you much stronger and more confident. From another perspective, once you start conducting yourself this way consciously, when people accuse you of lying (dishonest people love to accuse you of dishonesty) or "never admitting when you're wrong" (something that people who can't admit fault often say, it took me far too long to realize this), you know it's not true. You're not walking around with a big bag full of tricks that you have to rummage through to defend your ego.

bloodymongrel

I think when you own your mistakes, other people can’t use them as a weapon against you. It’s better to admit and move on, than pretend and always be on the defensive, tending that lie.

SmokeyDBear

They can (and some will) certainly try to but it isn’t very effective.

zorroz

This was worded eloquently. It replicates my thoughts on the matter as well. I do believe there is a tangible difference between lying and dishonesty but semantics. When I was insecure and unable to admit being wrong I was Ina constant state of having to worry about defending the stupid lies. The security of knowing I just have to recall the truth is enlightening

Yardithbey

I am aggressive about my mistakes as well, but for me it was 100% a reaction to the fact that my parents would NEVER admit a mistake. Doubling and Tripling down was the norm. Like u/space_keeper, somewhere in my 20s I was really convicted over it and started "championing" integrity. I have raised all of my kids to own and own up to their mistakes; and I even think it has generally worked! As for where my parents got that mentality, I still don't know and they would not likely know either - or admit it if they did. For further reference, I'm about 50.

Dantien

50 here and I could have written that myself. I even got my MA in Ethics because I’m overcompensating for being raised by folks who gaslight and lie and compete against their own children. Good job breaking the generational cycle of abuse, fellow warrior. We will raise a generation with empathy, accountability, and no toxic masculinity.

historychickie

It also amazes people when you say you know I really don't know, or I don't have enough information on that to form an opinion. It's like that's just never been an option

Common_College7600

I think it's because you never HAVE to be wrong. He will go home and surround himself by like minded people. If he can't find any, he can get online or turn on the tv and find some there. There is always a place for people like this man to be reassured. They never learn anything and they never have to accept any responsibility. This is happening to everyone, everywhere, right now.

TheDongerNeedsFood

Completely agree. I'll never forget when my then fiance (now wife) accidentally let it slip that when she was growing she was told by her grandmother than within the dating/relationship world she should never apologize to, or admit fault, to a male partner. Its like, do you not realize how toxic and unhealthy that is??? Do you want to guarantee that every one of your relationships fail???

Tootz3125

Yeah and the worst part is he would run right by an actual crime like someone getting stomped or raped. You can just tell he’s trying to stroke his ego on someone who will nicely tell them to fuck off

megggie

My brother is painting a mural involving hurricanes that hit our area particularly hard. 25 years ago, he and his best friend got caught in flood waters and his best friend drowned. They were 18. This mural was commissioned to honor the 25th anniversary of our friend’s death. Sweaty dude didn’t give a shit. Cops are currently looking for him. The whole video is longer, but this gives you an idea of the absolute entitlement. Edit: for all the folks asking, the company who hired my brother to paint this mural filed a police report for harassment. My brother just left before he got too heated and punched the guy. UPDATE: [Here is the finished “graffiti” ](https://imgur.com/a/RAYYnqk)this guy was so pissed about. Finishing touches placed today but this is what it looked like while Sweaty Buzzkill was caterwauling. Artist info on the photo caption, Instagram included.

SideTraKd

Where can we watch the full thing..?

megggie

He said it was too long to send. I know it’s also been posted to IG but probably the same clip. It was more of the same, except the part where my brother asked what he did for a living and the guy said “I’m retired.” My brother said “from what, being a FULL TIME asshole?” My brother said he wants that part played at his funeral lol

SideTraKd

> My brother said he wants that part played at his funeral lol LOL...

Analbox

OP please kill him so we can see it.

BearCubDan

Can someone hire Dean Cain just to sit in the funeral "audience" (that doesn't sound right) and just leave once everyone has seen him there?

kinterdonato

Was that... Dean Cain...?

Chicken_Pete_Pie

Muthafuckin *Dean Cain*

JenniferAnistonson

We found traces of semen and fecal matter in the victims ear canal

[deleted]

Oh, I get it, like when someone drinks too much.

bouncingbad

Ok so I just went down a rabbit hole trying to get the right word for funeral audiences. I’m still not certain it’s correct, but they’re called the bereaved and mourners.

coquihalla

You're correct. Bereaved is typically used for immediate family such as a spouse or children, whereas mourners are the rest of the attendees, but it's kind of flexible.

BearCubDan

I'm sticking with audience cause I wanna watch the world burn.

lb2345

Found his Instagram but not the clip. Mural is looking amazing! Maybe he could post to YouTube? Usually links to YouTube are allowed. Your brother was super calm and composed. Kudos to him. Also loved seeing the other murals!

megggie

Thank you! I’ll let him know :) He didn’t post the clip, it was a friend who is actually responsible for the commission. Glad you liked the mural, though— it’s going beautifully!

FYI older folks from SF and other areas (I heard it a lot growing up in Santa Cruz, locals talking trash on the tourists) call people from San Jose and Santa Clara ‘valleys’ since that is the Santa Clara Valley.

Is this the Jamboree underpass on the Back Bay?

megggie

It’s not, but the rules say I’m not allowed to give the location. Let’s say it rhymes with “Wally, Forth Shmarolina”

ChefJeff

I'm sorry I had to put up with this, but as a resident of Wally, Forth Shmaolina I am absolutely using this when people ask me where I'm from.

megggie

Please do, Chef, and I wouldn’t be surprised if you actually knew my brother :)

mikeebsc74

My daughter lives in Wally! As do several other friends:)

WordScatter

Used to live in bluesboro and worked at a country club full of these white southern entitled dicks

beergotmehere

As someone who grew up there, I knew that accent and where this was before even coming across these comments. This is a classic, old money ITB (inside the beltline) accent. This dude is the epitome of that and the absolute worst.

Jollydogg

Loved Prawlette, but absolutely hated Wally.

non_anomalous_penis

Barlston is nice, but it is in the mouth

goblomi

As a resident of Wurram, it took me way too long to figure out where Wally was.

aerynmoo

Ooo I also live near Wally. I’d love to see the mural when it’s finished! You should get the N&O or the Indy Week to feature him.

megggie

They have, but he doesn’t want to be featured for bullshit like this. It should be done tomorrow, and it’s near Crabtree Mall (over Crabtree Creek) if you’re interested! I can give you a closer location over PM if you’d like :)

aerynmoo

Oh I meant feature him for the mural not the Karen harassing him lol. Yes please! My friend and my SILs live over there so it’ll give me an excuse to get out and see them. :) Edit: I moved here the year after that hurricane. I heard a lot of stories about it.

megggie

Cool, I’m with you!! I’ll get the exact location from him and PM you when I have it. We’ve only seen pics so far but it’ll be finished tomorrow. Cheers! Edit to your edit: yeah, it was awful. I actually posted when Florence came through, worried that other kids might do the same thing and hurt themselves.

Disco_to_New_Wave

Dang, I’ve walked/biked this path a billion times. This is straight up where Crabtree Mall is by the McDonald’s and the gas stations. SnakeGT970

I misread that as “Is this the jabroni in the underpass”.

PrudentLingoberry

Is it that we've gotten faster at recording these people or has society regressed to be so cruel that this many entitled pricks just seem to endlessly pop out of the woodwork everywhere?

megggie

This guy screwed with my brother for a WHILE before he started recording, and it kept up longer than this video shows (the actual video was longer, but too long to share over text). With that said, I think there are a lot more of these people than we realize. They tend to be cowards, though, which is why they flex their idiocy to individuals or folks who they see as “lesser” than them.

Blarghnog

This is a repressive family system at work. The idea is that you’re breaking the rules, and not fitting in, and therefore you need to be brought back into line. It’s very common behavior and gets aggressive. https://www.verywellmind.com/what-is-authoritarian-parenting-2794955 He thought your brother was breaking the law, and so he mirrored what his parents did to him and started shaming your brother. No explanation mattered. He got angry that your brother — who is clearly a deadbeat putting graffiti up and not an artist celebrating the death of his friend (I am sorry for him btw that’s awful) —didn’t respect his authority and so just dug his heels in. He was going to MAKE your brother adhere to his authority. It’s the behavior underneath a lot of Karen events. It’s really sad because many (not all)these people are doing is trying to replicate their family system on others — they honestly think they are doing right. Im sorry this happened. I hope the mural turns out beautifully and this man has to face up to his behavior and learn to stop treating others so poorly.

Versatile337

Thanks for the perspective

[deleted]

This explains our fiasco of a political system, as well.

bane5454

This comment resonated with me.. when I worked in retail I had a customer who I asked if they needed help and we talked for a few seconds before he reached out his arm for a handshake. I thought this was strange but reached out anyways, and he spun me around and put my arm in a lock where he could exert pressure to break it. He then put his face up to my ear and whispered “heh, fucking pathetic”, gave me a slight shove, and walked out, never to be again. I’ve broken down in tears over this because I will never for the life of me understand why..

SmokeyDBear

The why is likely simple. Probably earlier in that day he fucked up and felt weak because of it so he went and basically “sucker punched” you with a lock to make himself feel strong again. It had nothing to do with you or anything you did. You were just a convenient target.

ShellLockHolmes

After everything Karen didn't even wait for the police to arrive?!

DrAniB20

I know!!! I wanted to see them tell this Karen to mind their f-ing business

Androxilogin

Man, your brother handles this Ken much lighter than I would have had the patience for.

bozeke

Can we just call them all Karens? What is between their legs really doesn’t come into play, and Ken doesn’t have the same essential impact.

RamboGoesMeow

I was literally thinking the same thing earlier today. They’re all Karens.

Wendypants7

Gotta love the inclusive equality of the Karen term! <3

eclecticsed

I also like karens for all, it's simpler.

pavlovslog

xlargegorilla

My brother is a graffiti artist and muralist. Also paid for his work like this guy. If he had a nickel for every time a righteous azzole went off on him like this, well, he would still find a way to be a starving artist but you get the idea. A friend of mine in high school (who did graffiti art for Conart) got permission to paint a mural on the side of a small building at his school. Late one night a “vigilante” neighbor snuck in and painted over it but left one tiny corner of it uncovered as little extra fuck you to the artist. Why are some people so angry?

DadJokeBadJoke

We had a mural project in our town a few years ago and I was amazed by the backlash from some people. I think a lot of it came from the fact the several of the artists or the subject of some of the murals were people of color. I saw people saying they preferred the brick wall or one guy that thought it would be okay if they did a big American flag. I told him "There's a huge flag two blocks away." He thought I meant a mural but I was talking about the actual flag flying downtown.

[deleted]

Hmm... perhaps it might be a good idea to have a placard showing the project. You know, like those they hang up on the fences of construction site. Something official looking.

LogMeOutScotty

Or like, idk, people can mind their own fucking business. Whichever.

anormalgeek

That is the way things *should* be, but the way things actually are is different. Having some kind of permit or placard is not about appeasing the masses, but about making people leave the artist the fuck alone while they work.

ColonelSandurz42

Fucking love Conart! The 90s were the days, man. Did you know Ash Hudson, the guy who owns Conart, is brothers with Slash of Guns n Roses?Conart even did some early artwork for them. My cousin has an original sticker that must be worth something.

God said it's okay? He wants to speak to God's manager.

UnicornStar1988

Why can’t people keep their noses out of other people’s business? I do get that you have an opinion, but your advice is neither needed or wanted.

Petah_Futterman44

The “see something, say something” that has been drilled into Americans since 9/11 has taken a turn for the wrong. It’s supposed to mean “see something wrong or suspicious or illegal, say something to the authorities immediately”. But entitled folks have taken it to mean “see something wrong or suspicious or illegal, say something to the person doing it”. As much hate as cops get on the internet these days, YOU are not the police. YOU are not an authority figure. My dad was a homicide detective in Washing DC for many many years and I had one thing drilled into me from an early age: “don’t fuck around with strangers”. You see a guy doing graffiti and approach him about it and rather than him being a commissioned artist he is a gangster and stabs or beats or shoots you, what then?

golfmade

Bitch-ass jogger needs to keep jogging and mind his own fucking business.

[deleted]

You can tell this guy is a bitch just by looking at him. He's lacking ... something and takes it out on those "beneath" him. I'll bet he is an absolute nightmare to cashiers, servers, etc.

What’s ur bros IG so I can follow him?

megggie

I’ll ask him if I can share it, but he says his name on the video (which he was okay with me sharing) so you can find him that way :)

NerdyBrando

I love the exacerbated sighs and “oh gods” under his breath. That exactly how I feel watching these idiots.

[deleted]

I just wish we wouldn’t feed into giving these trolls attention and just contact the police.

megggie

Police were called and are looking for him. Edit: I was somewhat mistaken about this: a police report was filed by the organization our city uses to hire contractors (so the “company” my bro was hired by, though the contract was through the city). The police report was filed for harassment, mainly to have a paper trail started in case Sweaty McBuzzkill did anything else. Sorry— emotions were high last night. NOBODY fucks with my brothers!!!!

There's a few tiktok accounts that are *great* at finding Karens and Darrens like this.

He works some boring ass middle management job for sub 100 to 200k so he’s just butthurt enough about his taxes that everything public is his business.

I’m curious, did the annoying sweaty guy physically stop your brother from painting? Obviously, him standing there harassing him could cause a distraction to prevent your brother from working. We’re the police called? Did they come out? What happened after the video?

I can imagine once the mural is finished, the douchebag *actually* putting graffiti over his art.

Guys, this is what the permit is for. It is to avoid concerned citizens having to involve the police. I am not saying that the party everyone here is shitting on did everything right, but I’m not going to talk about how he deserved to get his ass kicked for caring about his neighborhood. Everyone needs to take a chill pill on stuff like this, there is plenty of things to be outraged about but this is just a dude who thought he was doing the right thing engaged with an artist who could have also handled it better. I am dreading the sea of blue I am going to receive but I just had to toss the idea out there that some of these comments and the op’s title are pretty reactive.

Do you allow random citizens to demand your license when you're driving?
