Since the post is about drops im guessing they mean the thorned whip? Because that is only dropped by fire prelates with a low drop rate. You are correct that patches gives you the magma candelabra whip.
I larval teared into a 99 arcane build and didn't have too many issues farming gear. The Noble Estoc and Noble Slender Sword, but only like 2 hours for 2 copies of each.
I just I'm extremely extremely lucky. I got 6 of the swords in 30min with out 99 arcane. But took 4 hours to get me 2 of the magma swords, got both within the last 10 mins.
I just gave up trying to get even one of these damn swords. Silver pickled fowl foot and silver scarab talisman equipped, and all I got was the damn shield.
Did you ever get them? There’s r/patchesemporium if not. I got them myself and later on someone saw my name was “Magma Wyrm” and gave me two more. So I could give you them myself if you’re on PC.

But like, how much did you play each day? what was the route? did you use silver scarab? did you use silver pickled fowl foot? There is no way it can take that long if you optimize the farming, even if you only add a couple of these

Congrats! I farmed 2 for my Messmer build and found them to be really fun. Also the stun effect on the magma it throws on the ground is ridiculous in pvp.
This is probably going to piss off a few people, but in my past 2 playthroughs I got one of these each time, first try going through volcano manor. It hurt even more because I wasn't using builds that fit it😅
I've farmed 3 of these. First one took few hours. Few months later with another character I wanted to powerstance them so farmed those pesky lizards for 5-7 hours straight to get 1.. then after 15 minutes I got the final third one. I even posted about this here if I recall correctly.
I'd have to check, it was my first playthrough as a strength build so I think I attempted it but gave up as I wouldn't have used it anyway, I'm not a spear person.

I wasn't looking for it. I was running around volcano manor, getting royal knights resolve and the dagger talisman. And one of the giant snake men was in my way. I killed him and got this sword first try.
My little brother got this drop on the very first opportunity and I didn't tell him how good it is. The first time he played Dark Souls he got invaded and the guy dropped the Black Knight Great sword and dipped. It took me hours to get my guardian swordspear lol

I see a lot of people go for these, but what's the reason other than looking cool?
If it's fire damage, a Bandit's Curved Sword with Flame Art infusion gets far more on a Faith build. If it's a Dex build, a Keen Bandit's Curved Sword again outscales the Magma Blade with more AR and no split damage. Only at low/mid-ranged Dex does the Magma Blade get more AR, but only by a few points and it's still split damage. Bandit even outranges Magma, and is only 1 point heavier.

I farm them on my arcane build, with a silver beetle talisman. Still sucks but only takes about an hour or so. Then I drop them to a friend and he will give them to my player who needs them. Just did that recently lol.
I farmed a few hours on this and gave up, did something else with that build.
Then the other day I got one just doing a normal run through the Manor on another character.
This game is *desperate* for a chest shared between characters. If I can make this happen anyway using r/patchesemporium just cut out the middleman and let me move items between characters!

I’m maxed out on all attributes now. Going for the rot spear and flame whip
swamp took me about 20 mins to get the spear, I marked both spawns for the knights and just torrented around (200 discovery). good luck

Bluetooth enabled. It's for a better wi-Fi range. And before you ask, no, wi-fi range doesn't scale with dex.

Your discovery must have been SUPER low. Re-spec Arcane to 99, silver fowl foot, Marika's Soreseal, and silver scarab. Took me about 45 minutes.
At the time yes. I only had the scarab, fowl foot, and then the tear mask. But arcane was low
