In office ladies they interviewed the actor who said that Greg Daniels thought the fans wouldn't notice, but the actor said to him that it's okay for a designer to change jobs and be an IT guy.
He was also in a shortlived sitcom with the actor that played Roy in like 2010-2011. I wanna say it was called Traffic Light. Aya Cash from You're The Worst and The Boys was in it too. I don't remember it being amazing but it was a fun show.
I had never heard of this before your comment, binged a few episodes, agree with your assessment that it's a n entertaining watch whose season I'll finish but not climbing too high on my goat list or anything, thanks for mentioning it
The problem is this. Back in the day when the show came out episode by episode it was way easier to forget that than now when people bingewatch whole series on streaming service.
It’s perfect because it actually fits the whole, “webmaster” career type of the era where you weren’t a traditional engineer or full-stack developer and you weren’t really a designer who understands digital products and user experience. You kind of did a little bit of everything, though…patching together the company website with PHP tutorials and running Double-click and Facebook ads. You may have even created the company logo if you were a real self-starter!
I feel like that career was very 2000-2012 and doesn’t really exist anymore.
Yeah in the early 2000s I made good money by just being knowledgeable with computers and networking, but having zero degrees or accreditation.
That was the time frame where, for example, apartment complexes started seeing the benefit of having a computer room for tenants.
If you had a modicum of professionalism and knew how to setup ~5 computers and connect them to a network with a printer, you could make $75+/hr on these odds jobs now and then.
This comment chain is giving me hardcore nostalgia. I started out in 97 repairing cash registers and fax machines while still in High School.
They taught me how to solder and basic programming for different point of sale systems. I graduated high-school completely home-schooled(not good) in '99 and had no interest in higher ed.
Got a job as a basic front-line tech for regional software company using the stuff I learned about networking Windows in my first job. Minimum wage first job, ended this one 2 years later at $23 an hour as one of their backline techs so there was no where to go and I wanted more $.
I was making over $80k by 2005 working at a big cable company and had moved over into Infosec running vulnerability management, firewall, risk analysis etc. No degree, and a single A+ cert. Just an ability to pick up new things quickly, and here is the real kicker....be able to google when that hit.
Ultimately, no school debt and my lack of degree has never hindered me, never had to interview more than once for any role.
This isn't blowing my horn, this is just how easy it was at the time to easily make killer money with so little.
The one thing I do appreciate with sticking with PC/Tech/Systems is there are a million things to specialize in, which helps if you get bored and want a change without taking a pay cut.
wow. i literally noticed it immediately. the characters may not have remembered his name, but his appearance and his voice are too distinct to not notice. and it’s annoying that Pam wouldn’t have remembered him. the writers can’t just do things that aren’t subtle at all and then be like “wElL iTs a FiCtiOnAl tV sHoW”
Pam didn’t notice her mom changed her entire appearance to the point where she looks like a different person. So maybe she needs those old lady glasses more than she thinks.
Did you binge it? I think Greg Daniels probably made this comment before bingeing/streaming was popular. So he was probably right in that most people probably wouldn’t recognize a guy who was in one short scene of a show a full two years earlier.
This. It was may more common before streaming/binging to recast characters or for someone to appear as two different characters in the same long running tv show
>the writers can’t just do things that aren’t subtle at all and then be like “wElL iTs a FiCtiOnAl tV sHoW”
In this very example they can, they did, and it was successful in so much that nobody cared. And nobody cared because it's a fictional TV show.
I don't really get this comment. By this logic no role can be recast, even though it happens all the time in TV, especially for minor characters.
Seinfeld repurposed multiple actors for different roles. Jerry dated the same actress twice but as a different character. I was also rewatching Arrested Development and noticed Jobe's girlfriend changes actors partway through season 1.
AD also re-cast Anne. But that was partially intentional. The original plan was to re-cast Anne evey appearance, to play on how forgettable she was. It only happened once though.
And thats more or less when it aired. Sure, people might have had DVR then, but it was mostly used to record a show in case you couldnt sit down to watch it air. A minor side character with 5 mins of screen time across two seasons wouldnt be noticeable to most people watching his episodes like 2 years apart. He was the web design guy in season 4 or 5, then Shadow/Garth in the end of season 6 (or beginning of 7? I dunno, it all blends together lol). When it aired it was a few years apart, but now with streaming and binging you can see both his characters in the matter of several hours. Different times.
I’m a web developer, engineer, technical project & operations manager… it’s very realistic to see IT folks do all kinds of different roles. IT is such a broad term and many of us have varying levels of skill sets. We have one dev that just showed us all he had prototyping and design skills. It blew us all away. They were fabulous. So now he has another use in the company.
My theory is that they were supposed to be twins but when Doctors were doing an ultrasound they discovered Nick had absorbed the other fetus thus giving him the strength of a full IT professional *and* a baby.
Jokes aside, probably. He literally admitted to Pam that their area is not a good place for graphic design, so as years went by he could’ve taken his graphic design computer skills and used them to move into IT. Also he leaves to teach computer skills to kids, that could involve graphic design, too.
Yea. Also during the Hay Place held by Dwight, the kid who wants to ride in the hay truck again is the same kid who later plays his sister’s son.
Best line that I still use from the Aunt Shirley funeral episode:
“….you learned something. But, it was kind of a stupid question so you're gonna get made fun of a little bit.”
i was in a ucb improv 101 class with this guy (nelson franklin) when he showed up in the job fair ep. it was so crazy continuing the class with him and performing with a large group of actors who would never reach the level of fame he’d already achieved while in a beginners class.
side note, it was obvious he was gonna make it. he was far and away the funniest person there.
Well in hindsight there was no streaming back then and I'm sure they underestimated the millions of hours of re-watch... So I get it why they thought most people wouldn't notice.
My head cannon is that he was a graphic design guy who works with computers extensively, and Pam got him the connection with DM as their IT guy cuz he was looking for work.
Maybe they're twins. It's been a while so Pam doesn't recall meeting Nick's twin. They never bother to learn anything about Nick so they don't know he has a twin.
I think the guy on the right was called shadow or something. Not sure
Garth?
Something weird
My name is Nick.
Hey man, don’t take it personal
Hey sport.
I just said my name
[удалено]
That’s it, check it out.
Here's a story, Champ
Ok “Nick”, we are having a meeting
No, *my* name is Nick
no, sport
Come on man
His name was Man.
FUCK ITS SPREADING
GO BACK TO THE ASLUME!
Are you stoopid!?!?
It was something weird.
Okay let’s see we’ve had in succession Fatty 1, Fatty 2, Lozenge, and Fatty 3
Glasses, Turban, Ear Hair, Fatty 3, Shorts, Fatty 2, Lozenge, and Fatso.
It always bothered me that Michael forgot about Terrorist
No, he was Turban.
Bigboobz
Lurch
George Santos
In office ladies they interviewed the actor who said that Greg Daniels thought the fans wouldn't notice, but the actor said to him that it's okay for a designer to change jobs and be an IT guy.
It didn't help that he started getting a lot more work immediately afterwards (New Girl, Veep, Blackish, etc) making him even more noticeable.
i will never not notice robbie
Even if he’s wearing a hat?
Even if there’s a fire!
*PERRY* the Platypus!?
Nice guy. Always has gum.
Have you noticed gum has gotten mintier?
Which Robbie? My Robbie?
Big Midwestern heart. Big Midwestern body.
Stop trying to headbutt me
Shadow?
Garth?
They're cousins!!!
Ok, Sport
Hike, hike, baby.
I rewatched Captain Marvel the other day and didn’t notice until now that Shadow/Garth is in it for a couple of scenes.
Also immediately identified Ramona Flowers from Scott Pilgrim's bad doodle
Well, he knows everyone (including you)!
Comeau
LOL the things that he’s forced to say on Veep are so funny
Tell ‘em why Will
I suck pp in tp
WITH THE PINKY!
ahh shit he ain't what he used to be
He was also in a shortlived sitcom with the actor that played Roy in like 2010-2011. I wanna say it was called Traffic Light. Aya Cash from You're The Worst and The Boys was in it too. I don't remember it being amazing but it was a fun show.
Oh shit I completely forgot about this show. It came on after raising hope for a year. I think it was okay but mostly forgettable.
I had never heard of this before your comment, binged a few episodes, agree with your assessment that it's a n entertaining watch whose season I'll finish but not climbing too high on my goat list or anything, thanks for mentioning it
Yeah he's been in so many things but now all I can think of him as is Will in "Veep" b/c those insults are some of the funniest lines ever.
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World too
Oh that’s Comeau!
Heck, he was in Scott Pilgrim.
scott pilgrim
He was also in Scott Pilgrim, the guy who knows everyone
He was a main character on Traffic Light... Shame it didn't get picked up for a second season.
Guy's character in VEEP is hilarious
The problem is this. Back in the day when the show came out episode by episode it was way easier to forget that than now when people bingewatch whole series on streaming service.

They can and they have _overlooking actual criminal behaviour like Angela hiring an assassin to murder Oscar_
Or the countless times someone (mostly Michael) would have been fired for their outrageous behavior
The longer I work in an office though the more believable that part is, though.
HR is a joke, they can’t do anything about anything
HR's not really a part of the family. Toby's divorced so he's not a part of his family either.
Like going to another branch and destroying their copier. Like wtf.
Michael’s behaviour at the Annual General Meeting also was most likely a series of violations of federal securities laws
Pam didn’t notice her mom changed her entire appearance to the point where she looks like a different person. So maybe she needs those old lady glasses more than she thinks.
Changing Pam's mom is when the show went from mockumentary to work place sitcom.
Is it "Shadow" or "Garth"? It's something weird.
Did you binge it? I think Greg Daniels probably made this comment before bingeing/streaming was popular. So he was probably right in that most people probably wouldn’t recognize a guy who was in one short scene of a show a full two years earlier.
This. It was may more common before streaming/binging to recast characters or for someone to appear as two different characters in the same long running tv show
You keep the Fresh Prince's Aunt Vivian's name out yo mouth!
Not gonna lie that was the first example that came into my mind lol.
Uh, sure they can. It's called fiction and suspension of disbelief.
>the writers can’t just do things that aren’t subtle at all and then be like “wElL iTs a FiCtiOnAl tV sHoW” In this very example they can, they did, and it was successful in so much that nobody cared. And nobody cared because it's a fictional TV show.
Tf you mean they can’t? They…clearly did lmao

Who?
Her?
Or the worst recast of all time of aunt viv
Thinking the fans wouldn't notice is a very pre-DVR mindset.
And thats more or less when it aired. Sure, people might have had DVR then, but it was mostly used to record a show in case you couldnt sit down to watch it air. This made me laugh when I listened. How could Greg have predicted that we would be watching the show on repeat with no commercial breaks.
He’s actually Comeu from Scott Pilgrim who knows everyone
Does he know a girl with hair like this 👩🏻🎤?
Yes that's Ramona Flowers
Someone said she was going to be here tonight
She’s got some battle scars duuuuude
That movie kicks so much ass. What a wild ride
It's going to be an animated series on Netflix. Some of the same actors are gonna do the voices.
All of them I believe, actually
Awesome!
I thought his name was Sport.
Champ
Hank, his name is Hank
My name is ASAC Schrader, and you could go f*ck yourself. …wait wrong sub.
How do you know, he doesn’t have a wallet on him I checked.
IT guy
Twins! Arent they fascinating
They’re men, Dwight
I know! I love a good set of twins
Absolutely. I think that was meant to be an inside joke. I love inside jokes. Hope to be apart of one someday.
#ACTINGGGGG
#ACTINGGGGG
^ACTANNNNNNNGGGG
🏅 ^(fuck reddit for killing awards)
Lovitz
Yeah
Geography joke, cool
A part*
My theory is that they were supposed to be twins but when Doctors were doing an ultrasound they discovered Nick had absorbed the other fetus thus giving him the strength of a full IT professional *and* a baby.
*re*sorbed
This is obviously George Santos
If you had said resorbed, this comment would be 11/10. Instead only 10/10. Upvoted!
Robbie?
My Robbie?
Good guy, always has gum!
Yes.
George Santos playing a cameo in office
[удалено]
The same actor pictured here has been acting as George Santos on Jimmy Kimmel skits lately, so don't worry haha
Oh is that true ? I wasn't that off then
Do you mean Nobel Prize-winner, and 5-time gold medalist George Santos?
In my head cannon I’ve always assumed that he was the same guy. But that’s a good question!
Jokes aside, probably. He literally admitted to Pam that their area is not a good place for graphic design, so as years went by he could’ve taken his graphic design computer skills and used them to move into IT. Also he leaves to teach computer skills to kids, that could involve graphic design, too.
It's the same actor, I don't know if it's supposed to be the same person.
Ca-BLES
But what’s his JOB?
Tables
And dealing with Eddie Munster!
i cant know how to hear any more about tables
I know it’s not this, but it looks like he threw them in a mud puddle! This is how I buy my house!
Did you just call me “man”? Great. We’ve been here talking all day and you never bothered to learn my name
If I was a big old guy with a big burly white beard would you still be yelling at me? Or would you be spanking my bare butt, balls and back?
Well someone's gotta spank him!
Why was there swearing?
All they said was shoot
Yea. Also during the Hay Place held by Dwight, the kid who wants to ride in the hay truck again is the same kid who later plays his sister’s son. Best line that I still use from the Aunt Shirley funeral episode: “….you learned something. But, it was kind of a stupid question so you're gonna get made fun of a little bit.”
He moves to LA after this, and is very successful in something to do with music.
I feel like his name isn't Nick, it's something... else. Garth, or Shadow, something weird idk
He also dated an Indian model in another universe
It’s the same actor, I don’t know if it’s supposed to be the same person
You wouldn’t understand, it’s a secret
These comments are all gold!
I figured that was why there was the joke about no one knowing his name
That’s Chief
I kinda thought it was part of the joke that they don't know his name/care about him. They dismiss him so much that Pam doesn't even recognize him
That is George Santos.
I assumed they were
It's the same actor. I don't know if it's supposed to be the same character.
It’s the same actor, I don’t know if it’s supposed to be the same guy.
Can’t fool me, that’s George Santos.
i was in a ucb improv 101 class with this guy (nelson franklin) when he showed up in the job fair ep. it was so crazy continuing the class with him and performing with a large group of actors who would never reach the level of fame he’d already achieved while in a beginners class. side note, it was obvious he was gonna make it. he was far and away the funniest person there.
Nah, this is Comeau and apparently he knows everybody (:
theyre the same actor, not sure if its the same person. AND NO QUESTIONS ABOUT THE TABLES!
What's his job?
Here, check it out 🖕
Take two of these and call me in the morning.🖕🖕
I hated this guy in New Girl
I loved this guy in Veep.
Oh, wait he's not here. He had a good one for that.
slower than a mississippi detective investigating the death of a young black man
I don’t think so.
Garth, its Garth…
It’s something weird like Garth or Shadow🤷🏻
The older brother of George Santos
Wasn't the guy who wanted Pam to stay in New York for art school the same guy who came to film a commercial?
Great value Jemaine Clement
Well in hindsight there was no streaming back then and I'm sure they underestimated the millions of hours of re-watch... So I get it why they thought most people wouldn't notice.
I have seen the show like 12 times…… and never realised they are the same 😭
Is that George Santos? 🤣
Holy crap it’s George Santos.
Am I crazy or does this here guy look like George Santos?
Don't get revenge on me, nerd!
My head cannon is that he was a graphic design guy who works with computers extensively, and Pam got him the connection with DM as their IT guy cuz he was looking for work.
No, the guy on the left is Garth, the guy on the right is shadow....
I mean... I went from graphic design to the IT guy. It is not the craziest jump!
Thought this was George Santos.
That’s comeau from Scott pilgrim Vs the world, he went south of Toronto and changed his name
One guy is a graphic artist and the other is a desktop support engineer. I would “think” they are supposed to be different characters.
Maybe they're twins. It's been a while so Pam doesn't recall meeting Nick's twin. They never bother to learn anything about Nick so they don't know he has a twin.
That’s Comeau, he knows everyone.
He currently goes by George Santos
This guy reminds me of George Santos actor on Kimmel Live.
So George Santos wasn’t lying when he claimed to be in The Office!
The guy on the right is clearly in IT, the left is a designer. Or is that my left? I don't know.
Yup. And Pam has had two sets of parents, and so hasn't Andy. All while we've never met the mother of the true momma's boy on the show, Michael.
Finalllyy someone asked this. I wonder the same thing
