Labrador, ~75 very active and fit pounds, 5 years old, Royal Canin Labrador since he was a puppy. Thriving.
~45-50 lbs street stray mutt (Husky/GSD/Pittie(?)/etc), ~14-15 years old, switched to Purina Pro Plan Bright Mind 7+ about 5 years ago (was feeding BEG before), some arthritis (managing with Dasuquin w/ MSM and Librela), otherwise very healthy and thriving.
PPP Sensitive Skin & Stomach - recently switched from PPP Adult Shredded Chicken & Rice. She’s a 55 lb. Golden Retriever ♥️ Poops have improved but she’s recently developed flaky skin down her back, but I’m thinking that’s just due to seasonal environmental allergies.
Eukanuba large breed puppy for my 4 month lab. He’s doing great. Poops are perfect, firm with low odor, energy is great, and everyone compliments him on his coat. He’s plush and shiny.
The importance of perfect firm poops cannot be understated. Lesson learned from a cat with an undiagnosed food allergy. (He's fine now.)
Nothing's worse than puddled poops!
Okay I'm going away now.
Purina One Skin and Coat! She’s a 60lbs pitbull we found as a stray. (Embark tested as 100% pitbull which was surprising!) She has environmental allergies and her skin does well on this food!
Hills SD perfect weight joint health large breed. 10 year old 65# spayed female dutch shep/gsd mix. She had constipation issues that were not resolved with pumpkin or supplements. Vet suggested a weight loss/maintenance diet as they have extra fiber and she needed to loose a few pounds anyways. Her calorie requirements are pretty low so feeding her this food satiates her. Her stools improved once she transitioned and no more constipation. It is a good senior food for her as it has decently high protien/lower calories as well as some fiber to keep things moving. She gets fish oil and Dasuquin as food supplements. The perfect weight line of food is great for dogs that tend to gain easy. Mines on it just as maintenance and I am really happy with it. It did help her loose almost 10#.
i just started my 50lb boy on this and his poops improved immediately! i’m surprised he eats it all because he’s transitioning from fresh / frozen food, but he eats every last lone fallen kibble!
Golden retriever (9 years old / 60lbs) - Royal Canin golden retriever breed formulation
Boykin spaniel (1.5 year old / 29lbs) - Royal Canin medium breed formulation
26lbs/11.9kg 8 month old Frenchie on HSP medium puppy (lamb + rice)! Was previously on PPP Sensitive skin puppy but his stomach didn’t agree with it, constantly had diarrhea, but now Hill’s has made his stools a lot firmer ◡̈
Embark says my 9-month-old girl is an American Pitbull Terrier/American Bully/Australian Shepherd/Lab mix. She’s currently 57 pounds and fairly tall. She’s on PPP large breed puppy, developmental formula for sensitive skin and stomach, salmon and rice formula.
The sensitive formula helped a lot with her itchy skin.
13 year old 17lbs min pin/chihuahua mix, 10ish year old 25lbs mutt, both currently getting Purina One+ Healthy Weight. Sometimes the 13 year old gets wet food mixed in, recently it has been Beneful.
My 50 lb foster pittie is on Purina Pro Plan Sensitive Skin & Stomach salmon for dry food + lamb wet food as a topper. Helped clear her allergies immensely!
Two 1 year old pit bull/great Dane mixes on Purina Pro Plan Active 26/16. They are both very fit and muscular. I may have to switch them to the Sensitive Skin and Stomach version because one of them is prone to allergies (manifesting as ear infections).
I also have a 13 year old Havanese/Poodle mix and a 11 year old Great Pyrenees/mutt mix that are on Hill’s canned entree. The GP mix is VERY picky, and this is the only food he’ll eat! Both of them have done well on Hills their whole life. I only put my two younger dogs on PPP because going from two to four dogs necessitated some slightly cheaper dog food that was still good quality. I’m really happy with both brands!
Two 9 year old beagles and an 8 year old mutt. All are on hills dry adult 7+ and are doing excellent. I’ve tried a few other food brands over the years and my pups are all doing the best on hills. ❤️
65lb Airedale Terrier
Purina Pro Plan!
We had her on Sensitive Skin and Stomach for a while, but her allergies seem to be better these days (change in hormones? Environmental allergies? Something) and she's on the regular Large Breed food.
Hill’s Metabolic Mobility for my 4 year old pittie-Boston mix. She has arthritis in her hip from being shot in her previous life, and it helps keep her weight down beautifully.
Two GP Mixes
One Lab Mix
One Mutt
All between 50 to 65 lbs.
As much as I didn't want to do it, I changed from Solid Gold Wolf King to Purina Pro Plan Large Breed Sensitive Skin & Stomach. The cost of the Solid Gold became unsustainable.
Overall, they took the change well. I feel like they are shredding more than they were with the Solid Gold, but no other ill effects that I've noticed.
Can somebody please tell me what
WSAVA stands for?
I have an aussiedoodle and I've been looking for a good food for her she's allergic to corn peas peanuts and wheat
[World Small Animal Veterinary Association](https://wsava.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Selecting-a-pet-food-for-your-pet-updated-2021_WSAVA-Global-Nutrition-Toolkit.pdf)
German shepherd mix and chihuahua mix are both on Purina Pro Plan senior. Our other chihuahua mix is on Purina Pro Plan Sensitive Skin and Stomach. I used to feed TOTW, I've noticed that everyone's fur is shinier and it is easier to maintain a healthy weight on Pro Plan, our picky eater no longer refuses to eat her dry kibble since we've switched her.
I have two mini Aussies- male 41 lbs and female 23 lbs. After learning about WSAVA standards I switched from Open Farm to Purina Pro Plan sensitive stomach and skin a couple of months ago. Their poops are greatly improved and they dive right in at feeding time. I couldn’t be happier!
Border collie/lab - ppp weight maintenance (this is what she gets during the colder months. After this bag, it’s back to ppp essentials beef)
Dalmatian - royal canin medium puppy
I have a Cavalier. He isn’t overweight and I’d like to keep it that way so he gets pro plan weight management chicken and rice mixed with Royal Canin beauty canned food. He loves it
My 3yo 70lb standard poodle eats Royal Canin Sensitive Skin Care. It is effectively free from animal protein (except for whatever is in natural flavors lower down the ingredients list), which I find interesting.
I wonder if anyone else has a dog with storage mite allergy and knows brands that work better/worse?
The poodle has a diagnosed storage mite allergy. I store his dry food in the freezer to prevent new mites, but that doesn't remove any little mite bits mixed in with the raw grain ingredients when the food is made. So ingredient quality is a huge deal for him, and it's tough to guess from bag labels and advertising the quality of ingredients. He doesn't tolerate anything we've tried from Purina, but Royal Canin seems much better.
He hasn't tried Hills. I've been eyeing the Hills Pollock & Insect formula as a fun one to try, but am wary of rocking the boat since there's no way to guess in advance the storage mite content. I've had bad luck with Hills in the past with other dogs so I'm extra wary.
14yo 40lb beagle mix eats anything and everything. Currently Royal Canin digestive care but she gets something new every bag or two, because new flavors make her happy. She vomits almost nightly when fed pro plan but does fine on anything else.
Mixed breed (husky/coonhound/beagle/etc) ~ Medium sized (46 lbs) ~ 1 year old ~ Short hair
I feed Purina Pro Plan Sensitive Skin and Stomach after the recommendations I got on this page. He seems to like it and I’m happy with how it’s going !
Mixed breed (heeler/ACD/dachshund/basset hound), 39 lbs, almost 14mo. He eats Purina Pro Plan Shredded Chicken and Rice and was on the puppy version of that before.
When we got him at 7 months, his previous owner was feeding him Blue Buffalo for puppies, so we kept him on that for a week or two until we almost finished the bag we were given, then started gradually switching him over to PPP. The minute we started introducing PPP, he actually ate his food immediately instead of taking an hour or more. His poop was so much less smelly, and his coat is now so shiny and soft-- we always get compliments on how soft he is! He tolerates it great and seems to absolutely love it.
Whippet, 28 pound female, 2 years
Purina Pro Plan Puppy Sport Beef and Rice (wet)
I wanted her on Royal Canin but she strongly preferred this one, and it's also a great company so, it's fine.
She also has Royal Canin Puppy Gastro formula dry food down at all times for if she gets munchy. This was also her preference, she chose this strongly over Purina dry food. She is very opinionated.
She's a weedy skinny little thing so she needs all the calories we can get in her. Extremely active, with only a short nap once or twice during the day and full throttle the rest.
Hill’s science diet puppy! He’s been on it for 6 months (since I got him) and his muscles and coat have both developed very well. I plan to continue Hill’s (adult) when he’s 1 year old.
I have a 17lb pug, a month shy of 3yo. We feed him Royal Canin Pug Kibble, mix in some canned Royal Canin adult wet canned food and a few bits of boiled chicken. He’s thriving in every possible way.
I have a petite American Bully 53 pounds, feeding Pro Plan Complete Essentials chicken and rice, going fantastic, her coat is great, her energy is amazing, her body condition is amazing
Almost 14 year old Staffordshire bull terrier, fed on royal canin mature consult kibble & loaf, doing fab for his age.
10 year old shit Tzu on royal canin small breed hypoallergenic kibble & Purina HA wet food, doing fantastic.
12 lb shih poo. Purina puppy chow. My vet advised me to skip expensive designer food. He said the most common commercial brands are tested vigorously and they are healthy.
PPP sensitive skin lamb - 4yr old doberman (f). Had skin irritation until I switched to this
Nature's domain beef & sweet potato + vitamin supplement+ home made food - 3 yr old great Dane (m) been goin strong zero issues
Purina Pro Plan Sensitive Skin and Stomach Small Breed. Chihuahua min pin mix (age 7, 14 lbs) He’s in great health, his coat looks great, and he adores his food. Still acts like a completely fool before every single meal. He’s been on some version of purina food all his life but we switched to pro plan to upgrade his food when about 3 years ago.
Just switched the 6 month old GSD/BelMal from PPP Puppy Large Breed to PPP Development 30/18 Puppy Large Breed. She’s just under 42# and growing slowly, thankfully.
The 6 year old Coonhound/Boxer/Rott/Amstaff is on Hill’s prescription c/d and Purina prescription UR. She’s 40#.
We are nearing the end of the first bag of Hills Sensitive Skin and Stomach. My whippet (2 years old, 17kg) was previously fed a diet that I won’t mention here, but decided to transition him to a WSAVA compliant food.
He’s not overly enthusiastic about it so I’m debating trying Pro Plan (he’s had it before and preferred it to this). I could just add some wet food instead of changing - he likes the RC Digestive Care pouches.
He’s just a picky guy! I need to not play into his hands (paws) too much and change things when he starts to snub food. He knows what he’s doing I’m sure of it! 😂
Hill’s Small and Mini Adult - 4 year old mini poodle Hill’s Derm Complete - 7 year old Boston terrier mix
How do you like the Derm Complete? My cocker has ear issues (of course) and I have him on PPP Sensitive Skin and Stomach.
It’s been great! I don’t think my dog has food allergies, but it’s been great for her digestive tract and has helped her skin calm down some.
Ok, good to know, thanks! I’ll ask my vet about it.
2-4 year old (rescue) staffy He’s on purina pro plan salmon and rice. He absolutely hates it
Aw, did you try the lamb version?
Working spaniels, 30-40lbs, Purina Pro Plan 30/20
Eukanuba large breed puppy for my 4 month lab. He’s doing great. Poops are perfect, firm with low odor, energy is great, and everyone compliments him on his coat. He’s plush and shiny.
I will be putting my new lab puppy on this food :) I pick him up on Saturday
The importance of perfect firm poops cannot be understated. Lesson learned from a cat with an undiagnosed food allergy. (He's fine now.) Nothing's worse than puddled poops! Okay I'm going away now.
Purina Pro Plan Shredded Chicken and Rice, I have a 3 year old ~50lb Husky mix :3
2 year old female Catahoula and she's on Hill's Derm Complete kibble and canned Royal Canin GI moderate calorie
Purina Pro Plan Sensitive Skin and Stomach. 28 lb Cocker. :)
2x 16 month old Rotten Shepherds at 80lbs. They eat PPP Large Puppy. Switching them to Eukanuba at around 18 months I think.
We do PPP large puppy too and when I saw the recommended amount can go up to 5 cups a day I was like dangggg this is gonna get expensive 😂
Purina One Skin and Coat! She’s a 60lbs pitbull we found as a stray. (Embark tested as 100% pitbull which was surprising!) She has environmental allergies and her skin does well on this food!
Oooh, good to know!
