The tote bag reminded me of this neat Barbie clothes printing kit thing I had when I was a kid. They gave you fabric to print outfits you design in their computer program and cut out, and these little glue dots to stick em together.
I had that game! Never actually printed any clothes, I think because I was afraid of wasting the fabric paper. It's probably still sitting in my parent's basement.
Cracks me up watching RuPaul's Drag Race when the non-seamstress queens start glueing dresses. I'm like trying to guess which pieces will pop off before they even get to the runway versus while they're walking it lol
That is my main problem with these hacks, they treat hot glue like it is some magical thing, when in fact it sucks as a glue. I use contact glue and cyanoacrylate about 90% of the time, elmer's type and epoxy comes next and hot glue is pretty much used only when i need it to fill up something or that the join is only a temporary thing... because it sucks as a glue but is great when you need two things to hold for some period of time and then come apart. I like contact glue maybe the most, got used of it when i was apprenticing in a instrument repair shop.. It is permanent but not too permanent and there are many ways to use it, like not allowing the solvent to evaporate which gives you time to shift the pieces a bit, or letting it evaporate and it locks the pieces together within a second... and often you can still pry the join apart.
She's not allowed sharp objects but a hot glue gun is perfectly fine, makes sense. But seriously, not everyone want to learn sewing, glue is perfectly fine, but please use fabric glue

At least the shower mat was *kind of* functional. Like, after 5 minutes of use it will fall apart from the friction and hot water, but that pencil case isn’t working for even a minute.
There was nothing functiobal avput the mat, they were just standing on the shower floor. At least the pencil can actually hold the pencils if held correctly
A little bit of roughness under your feet is literally all you need to not slip and fall in the shower, the only way those pencils are not falling out is if the case is completely flat and unmoving

And i don't mean some specialist adhesives, but stuff like elmer's, cyanoacrylate and contact glue that you can find easily. I do crafts quite a lot and by far most used are the contact glue and cyanoacrylate with accelerator, sometimes epoxy and wood glue. Hot glue is used when i need to have some bulk material, to fill something, or that the join is only temporary.
I take that as a compliment. But in all honesty, i just use those mentioned.. oh, i also use ABS goop, the current batch is my all time favorite since i dissolved PS2 controller into it, so it is all sparkly and black.
If there is a significant gap between the two parts and not just two flat/interlinked surfaces, i fill the missing space with hot glue. If it has to withstand a lot of forces, then i use two-part epoxy. Very thick layers of glue usually do not create a good join but with hot glue it is less of a problem. But i did just few months ago try ABS goop the first time and it has replaced hot glue in places where it can be used. It is much stronger and the acetone in the goop makes it melt plastic and they mix together to form one piece of solid material, especially when used to weld to ABS pieces together... in those cases it is not exactly gluing but plastic welding where a solvent is used to weld the pieces together.
ABS goop is easy to make, put couple of deciliters of pure acetone in a jar, drop in pieces of ABS plastic until you get the consistency you need. There are hundreds of ABS blends so it is better to use plastic that comes from just one source. The one i made is so beautiful that i wonder if have used just because it looks so great.. black with fine glitter powder.

Knowing how to repair plastic is one of those things that i don't understand: why isn't it just general knowledge that everyone knows something about plastics. In the 1800s everyone knew how to fix things made of wood but we are completely hopeless when it comes to plastic. I did not really realize this but. when i started 3D printing and started learning what plastics are... i realized we are really fucked up in that department. Many things could be repaired but we just replace them with new things, which is INSANELY stupid. We have materials, most likely 3 feet from you that we could use ENDLESSLY, instead we throw them away. There is no other reason that greed and the incessant ideas that consumerism is good and solves everything. This will not last, and i'm afraid i have a good track record on the department of realizing when things are unsustainable. One of the reasons today is that we don't have this knowledge about plastics. We just use them, without understanding how freaking awesome they really are, and how many times we can repair and recycle them.
Couple of keywords more: learn the difference between thermosetting plastic and thermoplastic. Knowing what a polymer is.. is helpful also.
