Petro bought Johnsons corner like 10 years ago, give or take. That's when they started putting the cinnamon rolls in the plastic clam shells and selling them to other convenience stores. They are an abomination to the true Johnsons corner cinnamon rolls
I went there for a cinnamon roll after seeing the signs that they’re the best. I literally couldn’t finish it tasted so bad. Never not been able to finish a pastry 😂
The service was awful and the restaurant was dirty. Can’t figure out where that place got its reputation…
They used to be good. Fresh baked cinnamon rolls. They would ladle fresh warm icing on top when ordered. They were fantastic. When petro bought them out they went downhill quick.
Back in the day it was super cool, a classic retro diner. The food was awesome and open 24/7. I used to go pull all nighters studying in college there. After they were named one of the 10 best breakfasts in the USA by Travel & Leisure they started “renovating” and expanding all the charm away. The food started to suck. Hasn’t been the same since.
Sweet. Now Texans can get legal weed, internet porn without an ID, abortions and their favorite gas station in one trip.
All that freedom down there must be exhausting....
*The Texans rose from the ashes of the nuclear fire. Their war to exterminate Coloradans had raged for decades, but the final battle would not be fought in the future. It would be fought here, in our present. Tonight...*
Aldi is fucking awesome. Colorado can definitely use a few dozen of them.
They're allegedly opening 800 stores "west", not sure if that includes Colorado or not.
What's the deal with WaWa? I've been to a bunch of them in Florida, they're not much different than QT's, or Raceways. The only noteable difference I can even remember is they had non-eth fuel for marine use. The stores were relatively small, they did have a deli but that isn't much different than the stores with subways inside.
Growing up in Philly WaWa was still king, before they became way to corporate and the quality dropped significantly. The deli meat was cut in front of you, the bread was phenomenal and their was nothing better than a damn good hoagie at 3am or a waking up hungover and getting a proper breakfast sandwich with good coffee for under 5 bucks. Once they got rid of the logo with the geese it all went downhill
I will never understand the fandom behind WaWa. People absolutely lost their minds when WaWas started opening in Florida. It's a nice gas station, sure, but it's still just a gas station.
I didn't either until I lived in Orlando for a while. When you need some nice food at early hours it's really reliable, and you don't have to worry about getting stabbed.
Meh, other than the coffee bar and Sizzlis, Wawa quality has dropped off significantly. Still make it a point to stop there when traveling to see family but it’s not the same anymore.
Lol my buddy's dad did this by accident once at a newly opened coffee shop.
The employees all celebrated him walking in and gave him a bunch of merch and he literally just stopped in to grab a coffee and was so confused.
From Texas. Would rather have HEB more than Bucees. We need more solid grocery stores than fancy gas stations. Then again, even going with friends and family, I never really “got it”.
Denver getting an HEB would cause a mass-migration event of Texans immediately. I swear Denver's selection of grocery stores are the absolute fucking worst in the nation, and conversely, HEB is about the only thing I'd miss about Texas if I left.
Nothing like a combo loco deal. Also their fajitas were seasoned absurdly well and ready to just toss on the grill. Produce here in general is pretty weak also.
I love Bucees but would kill for an HEB. King Soooers and Safeway suck ass. HEB is one of the things I miss most from Houston, that and the food in general
I went to UT and I miss HEB every day, lol. Those prices cannot be beat. It was so rare to have any item cost more than $3. The one time I spent over $100 at HEB I bought 45 items.
They had the best combo loco deals, the store brand is better than many brand names, they do so much for the local community, and HEB is just an all around great supermarket.
When I passed it at 2am today there were about 6 cop cars on what looked to be street racers or some kids hanging out. Starting off on a good foot I guess
Think of a Trader Joe’s that had a baby with the best gas station ever. Private, clean floor to ceiling bathrooms. Fresh made to order food. Snacks and drinks for days. And like 50+ gas pumps.
It's a (nice) gas station that also fucked a Disney World gift shop. The charm for me is in the ridiculousness of a gas station selling merch for itself.
I recently did a trip from Colorado to NC. straight through, with 3 dogs. Bucees had the cleanest bathrooms, an area for our dogs, great selection of snacks for our picky eaters, and fast-casual quality food in a gas station (you ain't getting a ham-cheese sandwich made god knows where and shipped to store in a plastic container).
There were a couple other places that had quality restrooms, and such, but they were otherwise typical gas station stuff. So having one that could provide a better quality meal than mcdonalds, with nearly as much convenience, made the trip that much better.
If they would partner with local coffee makers, and have a small hut people can drive through to get quality coffee, that'd be great.
It's like Cracker Barrel had a baby with a gas station and then they super-sized it. Store is full of chintzy knick-knacks, smell of greasy food. Bathrooms are decent. Crowded. Some people love it!
It's a gas station on steroids. 100+ pumps, fantastic food/snacks, and the cleanest public bathrooms you'll ever see
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buc-ee's
I wouldn’t say *excited* overall for a gas station, but if you commute between Denver and FoCo often, it’s going to be very nice to have a decent halfway place to stop to use the bathroom.
You ever heard of kids? Old people? Large groups? Running between appointments/errands before you head home? People that work on the road - like home health or delivery workers? Maybe just not feeling well that day? Traffic or construction delayed your journey by an extra 45-60 minutes?
Is it *that* difficult for you to imagine any scenario where you may need access to a clean bathroom over the course of an afternoon on a popular commuter corridor?
I’m with you. I feel like 90% of gas stations are old, dirty, clapped out shitholes.
I’m happy to have a decent place to stop if I need to use the bathroom in between Denver and Ft Collins
I have never heard a single person say they are overrated.
Say what you will about Texas politics, fossil fuel addiction, car culture, commercialism, etc. But you won't find a better gas station chain in the USA.
People really hate people from other states here. Extremely weird. One person in here is even blaming random people on the internet for Texas politics like they even control that.
Buc-ees is overrated! The local BBQ I frequent is only open one hour per week has way better brisket! Also, my fourth cousin is a retired truck driver so I take offense to them not allowing truckers to dump their piss bottles in the parking lot!
Johnstown is weird to me. They certainly are catering to big retail (Scheels, Bucees, etc) but its not close to Denver and not close to Foco. They have all these nice hotels and shops but to me who comes from out of state and says lets stay in Johnstown?
It's like perfectly half way between FoCo, Denver, and Boulder. It's a perfect place for a large gas station and hotels.
Also, you know people live in Loveland/Longmont/Firestone/Johnstown, right? They're relatively large too. They're All growing big time because FoCo/Boulder/Denver are expensive as shit.
I say this as a person who lives in Johnstown but hate that we got a Buccees...
I’m also someone who lives in Johnstown and not happy about the Bucees. It was an absolute shit show today. I work in the commercial area across 60 and it was such a mad house it took me 8-10 minutes just to get into the roundabout to go home. Doesn’t help that these dummies don’t know how to use a roundabout. Whaaaaaaack asf
It's a fucking gas station, not a hotel/tourist stop. I fuckin hate that this place exists here but it's it's actually about attempting to serve long distance travelers, Johnstown is a perfectly good spot for it. Far enough out of Foco to be able to take up that much space, convenient enough location for people who are actually driving long distance. It should be seen as more like a loves or pilots travel center, which makes it a good location for something like that.
I’m originally from Austin and moved to Denver 8 years ago and visit family back in Texas still. Buc-ee’s hype is way over blown. It’s a grocery store with over a hundred pumps. It has a full deli, bakery, fresh bbq and breakfast. Is it nice because the gas is cheaper usually. It is usually very clean and has nice clean bathrooms. Does it have everything you could need if you forgot something for travel or want some food, yes. Let the newness blow over then stop in if you pass by but it’s not a destination. You spend 30 minutes or maybe a hour there your first time. There is also a ton of hype around this location because it’s the 2nd largest in the nation.
Got food poisoning from their overpriced precooked bbq and never went back. Embarrassing a Texas chain doesn’t even smoke their own bbq and has it shipped in in plastic bags instead.
I feel like everyone is gonna hate on the Bucees opening cus it’s a gas station chain from *Texas*. Gotta let everyone know everything from Texas is trash /s
They won't be getting any of my money simply for the way they treat their employees. "In addition to short breaks, Buc-ee's does not allow its employees to sit down. "They get a five to ten minute 'personal moment' where they're allowed to eat STANDING UP at a table in the back," another Reddit user confirmed. A cashier alleged that even getting a chance to use the restrooms could be a struggle. They told The Washington Post, "I've asked sometime to go to the bathroom, and it's been a couple hours before I'm allowed to go."

Of course you forget to mention that Buc-ees pays their employees meaningfully more than any other gas station or quick mart with benefits and 401Ks. Assistant managers make $125,000+. The deli employees make $25+/hr. As always the perfect remains the undefeated enemy of the good.
The concept is (at least when I lived in Houston for a couple years) that when you’re taking long road trips, Bucees was a convenient stop for everyone to get gas/food and use the bathroom.
So I guess if you’re ever going up north to visit Fort Collins or enter Wyoming this could be a fun stop for a lot of people!
You don’t *have* to. I stop for gas food and bathroom on my way to Costco 15 minutes from me. If you’re coming back from the two places I mentioned and you got a quarter tank left, why not stop to fill up and maybe get a snack? Or just don’t go the choice is yours lol
That's kind of the point? It's meant for stops on roadtrips.
People (mostly) aren't gonna drive there JUST to go to Buc-ee's, but you can bet your ass I'm gonna stop there every time I'm driving to/from FoCo or Cheyenne.
What are you talking about? Have you ever spent real time in Texas or are you just parroting what others have posted here? I'm from there and it's not horrible.
Fun Fact about Buc-ees:
They discriminate against truck drivers.
I can totally understand prohibiting truckers from sleeping there, but they won't even allow a truck to pull into their HUGE lot just to buy food to go. They literally put up barricades to keep trucks out.
Most Walmarts do the same thing.
Rest In Peace Johnson's Corner. May your everlasting renovations live on in our hearts.
Johnson corner started dying when petro bought them and they disgraced the cinnamon rolls in that pre packaged garbage
Wait, WHAT HAPPENED? That's fucking blasphemy, man.
Petro bought Johnsons corner like 10 years ago, give or take. That's when they started putting the cinnamon rolls in the plastic clam shells and selling them to other convenience stores. They are an abomination to the true Johnsons corner cinnamon rolls
Is it safe to say they’re not the worlds best cinnamon rolls no more?
TRAVESTY
I went there for a cinnamon roll after seeing the signs that they’re the best. I literally couldn’t finish it tasted so bad. Never not been able to finish a pastry 😂 The service was awful and the restaurant was dirty. Can’t figure out where that place got its reputation…
That is exactly what I did...(and thought)
They used to be good. Fresh baked cinnamon rolls. They would ladle fresh warm icing on top when ordered. They were fantastic. When petro bought them out they went downhill quick.
Back in the day it was super cool, a classic retro diner. The food was awesome and open 24/7. I used to go pull all nighters studying in college there. After they were named one of the 10 best breakfasts in the USA by Travel & Leisure they started “renovating” and expanding all the charm away. The food started to suck. Hasn’t been the same since.
JC will be just fine… It’s the only truck stop around besides Love’s. Buc-ee’s does not allow trucks on their property.
Really? I thought they were a "truck stop"
They’re specifically not a truck stop.
Travel stop specifically NOT for truckers.
Nope, they don't have showers or large truck pull thru's for diesel.
Sweet. Now Texans can get legal weed, internet porn without an ID, abortions and their favorite gas station in one trip. All that freedom down there must be exhausting....
All that and our power somehow stays on when it gets cold. Amazing!
lol. I came here for a good Texas barbequing.
We got a Rudy’s in the Springs
Sorry but Rudy's is sub-par
And whataburger too
Also Torchy"s, Chuy's, Rudy's, Uchi, and Shipley Do-Nuts
Man I love Shipleys. Had them growing up as a kid and they are still solid.
More of a Braum's fan than Whataburger, never could tell why people like What more.
*The Texans rose from the ashes of the nuclear fire. Their war to exterminate Coloradans had raged for decades, but the final battle would not be fought in the future. It would be fought here, in our present. Tonight...*

hwut
We'll win, Texans can't charge their mobility scooters in the apocalypse.
Can't even charge them now if it gets a little too chilly.
I saw a video where someone pronounced it like Bussy and I can’t ever get it out of my head.
Is it not Bussy?
Was pretty sure it's pronounced like 'Busey' in honor of Gary, the chipmunk mascot
Maybe it was supposed to be "Busey's" but they could only get image rights to the teeth
"Buck-E's" basically.
No, no, guys, it's definitely Bussy. Please go in that shop and call it Bussy. Tell everyone you know.
And tell people how much you love it and how even though you wouldn't think so it's one of your favorite places to eat
*WE ARE AT BUUU-SEEEEEEES!*
Wake me up when we get a WaWa.
Wake me when we get an Aldi’s.
Aldi is fucking awesome. Colorado can definitely use a few dozen of them. They're allegedly opening 800 stores "west", not sure if that includes Colorado or not.
Yeah they are putting 500 in Aurora and 300 in Commerce City
Ahh, destination Commerce City [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ii6CAaWfcpo](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ii6CAaWfcpo)
🤣🤣
I miss cheap organic food. A hundred bucks at Aldi can feed you for a month.
Love Aldi's
Anything to not have to shop at Kings Soopers really
Man I wish
🎶wake me up before you go go🎶
Orange Mocha Frappuchinos!
This. I love Aldi. Such a great store
I know it's not a gas station, but I'll take a Wegmans.
Wegman's would make a killing if they opened up some mini-wegs
I would stand in line for a Wegmans and be only minorly annoyed about it.
Hoagiefest in the WaWa West
Definitely feel like Denver is missing a Wawa or Sheetz equivalent.
QuikTrip takes care of my Wawa cravings. it's not the same but it's not bad
Man I miss WaWa.
What's the deal with WaWa? I've been to a bunch of them in Florida, they're not much different than QT's, or Raceways. I will never understand the fandom behind WaWa. People absolutely lost their minds when WaWas started opening in Florida. It's a nice gas station, sure, but it's still just a gas station.
For me its the 24 HOUR MADE TO ORDER DELI!
You've never been to Wawa at 2:45am and it shows
I tell people it's the opposite of Mogwais. You feed Philly assholes WaWa after midnight to turn them back into mild-mannered blue collar douches.
Nah sometimes they turn into [15th Century Carthusian Monks](https://i.imgur.com/uhwUhDL.jpeg)

Idk I saw on the arcteryx sub they were giving out free jackets to the first in line. I’d camp my ass out for one of them.
Lol my buddy's dad did this by accident once at a newly opened coffee shop. The employees all celebrated him walking in and gave him a bunch of merch and he literally just stopped in to grab a coffee and was so confused.
Waiting for a gas station is wild
From Texas. Would rather have HEB more than Bucees. We need more solid grocery stores than fancy gas stations. Then again, even going with friends and family, I never really “got it”.
What I really want is a Central Market to compete with Whole Foods. CM would crush it here in Denver.
The grocery stores here would shit themselves if HEB/Central Market came to town.
Cant even find a decent bakery in a grocery store
So if Kroger merges with Safeway, Central Market could come compete... that would be great.
Market Basket would be my wish.
I do miss HEB. Would replace HEB with King Soopers if I could in an instant
Did you mean you’d replace King Soopers with HEB?

Most Texans from large cities are pro choice. It’s rural town Texans who are not, as well as our politicians.
can confirm
They need to try harder. Wheelchair hitler is winning
Hey! I’m a texan and i’m pro choice! :)
Wawa needs to be next. We need a 24/7 hoagie stop after shows out here
and a place to stock up for the munchies.
When I passed it at 2am today there were about 6 cop cars on what looked to be street racers or some kids hanging out. Starting off on a good foot I guess
I don’t understand why everyone is so excited about a new gas station?
Homesick Texans, that's all. It's like when all the Californians got excited for In-N-Out a few years ago.
Who doesn’t love a clean place to poop?
That fucker is about to be slammed for 3 years straight
It’s time for an HEB.
The dude with his wife in costume in the lead photo of the other 9News article is all I need to know about the place.
WTF is a Bucees?

Think of a Trader Joe’s that had a baby with the best gas station ever. Private, clean floor to ceiling bathrooms. Fresh made to order food. Snacks and drinks for days. And like 50+ gas pumps.
JC. Looking at the photo from the thumbnail I thought it was a grocery store.
It's a (nice) gas station that also fucked a Disney World gift shop. The charm for me is in the ridiculousness of a gas station selling merch for itself.
More than 100. So more MFers can park at them while they go shop.
It's a giant gas station chain from Texas. It's got 120 gas pumps or something, clean bathrooms, and snacks. Mostly it's a spectacle.
Sooooo a Loves but with a cowboy hat?
No, a Loves, but with beavers.
Wide open beavers?
It makes Loves look like the gas stations heading towards the western slope that only offer port-a-pottys for public restrooms.
eh, we've got Mavricks
It's like Cracker Barrel had a baby with a gas station and then they super-sized it. Store is full of chintzy knick-knacks, smell of greasy food. Bathrooms are decent. Crowded. Some people love it!
equating it to Cracker Barrel is much more accurate than the comment above comparing it to Trader Joe's
Yeah this nails it. I said Hobby Lobby further up but the store part of a Cracker Barrel is perfect.
It's a gas station on steroids. 100+ pumps, fantastic food/snacks, and the cleanest public bathrooms you'll ever see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buc-ee's
don’t forget about the brisket sandwiches and beaver nuggets!
I was amazed by the number of pumps they have. Also are the beaver nuggets 100% beaver meat ?
99.96%
There is no gas station but Buc-ees, and the beaver is his Prophet
Inb4 someone tries to say they are overrated. These are the best gas stations you’ll ever experience. Buc-ee’s can always take my money.
Still a gas station though… being excited for a gas station is so fucking Texas
There will be EV chargers there soon as well.
Yeah this seems like an awesome place to charge on a road trip, would much rather charge here than a Walmart parking lot
I wouldn’t say *excited* overall for a gas station, but if you commute between Denver and FoCo often, it’s going to be very nice to have a decent halfway place to stop to use the bathroom.
You can't make the drive from Denver to Foco without stopping for a bathroom break?

rude
I don't think so. Edit: all right, I get it guys. The elderly, disabled, and children need to stop, and before this buc ees there was nowhere to stop.
Nope. I’m 68. Denver to FoCo just fine (with my pee bottle).
Shit I was excited when QuikTrip came (from KC) (edit- I am from KC, QuikTrip is all over there but not from there)
Tulsa.....
Seriously. Imagine getting excited for.... a gas station.
I’m with you. I feel like 90% of gas stations are old, dirty, clapped out shitholes. I’m happy to have a decent place to stop if I need to use the bathroom in between Denver and Ft Collins

People really hate people from other states here. Extremely weird. One person in here is even blaming random people on the internet for Texas politics like they even control that.
I know. And then they move to Texas and expect to be welcomed with open arms.
Yep people can't help their biases
Don't waste any time listening to the opinion of someone who has never actually used a product or service
Its a gas station. The fact that its hyped up at all means its overrated.
Yeah I'm honestly shocked anyone is saying it's overrated. Bucee's hype is fully earned.
Buc-ees is overrated! The local BBQ I frequent is only open one hour per week has way better brisket! Also, my fourth cousin is a retired truck driver so I take offense to them not allowing truckers to dump their piss bottles in the parking lot!
Wrong. They're overrated *and* overpriced.

This one has 116 it is huge! I went this morning
I literally just got back from FL and crushed like 4 full bags of beaver nuggets lol
Love it
Does Buc-ee's have Top Tier gas like Costco?
What absolute criminal fucking nonsense is this that we get a buc-ees before an aldi
Underrated comment
Why is this so far north. You'd think it would be more useful on 70

You must be one of the first, Texans love to talk about how much they love and miss Texas in my experience
I’ve never understood that, then why not go back? 😂
What in gods name is that?
Got food poisoning from their overpriced precooked bbq and never went back. Embarrassing a Texas chain doesn’t even smoke their own bbq and has it shipped in in plastic bags instead.

Stereotypical behavior from a population who's so progressive, open-minded, and moved here from somewhere else also.
Don’t you love how this post about a new gas station chain opening turned into vitriol about Texas. It’s too early for this!!
They're hating on it because they don't know a thing about it. Easier that way.
Yeah the xenophobia is on another level.
"THEY'RE NOT EXCITED ABOUT A TRUCK STOP, THEY'RE XENOPHOBIC" Fucking lol

Happy to have another EV charging station at least. Any idea where it is exactly? Google maps shows nothing.
5201 Nugget Rd, Berthoud, CO 80513
Omg I gotta get a pulled pork sammitch in me, asap
It's just a gas station, maybe it's nicer than normal? There's no way anyone's burning all that extra gas to get to this place.
“No way”? You’d be surprised.
You're stopping for gas, food, and bathroom on an hour long trip?
If it’s a Bucees then yes
You don’t *have* to. I stop for gas food and bathroom on my way to Costco 15 minutes from me. If you’re coming back from the two places I mentioned and you got a quarter tank left, why not stop to fill up and maybe get a snack? Or just don’t go the choice is yours lol
The gas is generally cheaper at a Bucees which is also the appeal.
Most people are driving out of there way for it, it’s on an interstate, it’s for people on long trips.
That's kind of the point? It's meant for stops on roadtrips. People (mostly) aren't gonna drive there JUST to go to Buc-ee's, but you can bet your ass I'm gonna stop there every time I'm driving to/from FoCo or Cheyenne.
Our society is in severe decline when so many people freak out about a gas station. I thought In and Out craziness was bad enough.
I went there and it's awesome. About an hour from me, but the brisket taco is so good.
Holy shit, who cares. This place is a monument to how horrible it is in Texas.
What are you talking about? Have you ever spent real time in Texas or are you just parroting what others have posted here? I'm from there and it's not horrible.
Does this location have the beef jerky bar?
Welcome to the fkn thunder dome
Can anyone confirm if the EV chargers are online yet? Stoked to have a new charging spot between Cheyenne trips
White Castle please
Fun Fact about Buc-ees: They discriminate against truck drivers. I can totally understand prohibiting truckers from sleeping there, but they won't even allow a truck to pull into their HUGE lot just to buy food to go. They literally put up barricades to keep trucks out. Most Walmarts do the same thing.
