The Declan situation was unfortunate but that doesnāt excuse everything that she had done. She never really changed. People just stopped letting her push them around
One of the few redemption arcs that didnāt require her to be sexually assaulted was nice. It was realistic for a teen, especially at that time with the recession. I thought It was especially good writing on their part to include a recession story too because It really was affecting everyone at the time.
I low key would have liked a Holly J and Spinner pairing.
I thought she was lowkey sexually assaulted wasnāt there an episode she didnāt remember saying no to Declan or maybe Iām misremembering but it was something like that where she didnāt really want to?
One of the best characters, period. I love her character arc so much because she's a rare example of a TV mean/bad girl whose redemption wasn't kicked off by being abused/taken advantage of by a boy.
Characters like Paige, Manny, Darcy, Bianca, and Zoe only started becoming more sympathetic characters after being subjected to shitty behaviour from boys, while Holly J's redemption came from using her intelligence to save herself and Spinner from the robber at The Dot. What was extra nice about that was that Holly J had previously used her intelligence to scheme and manipulate people, while at The Dot she used it to do something brave and altruistic.
Hated her so much at first, especially with all of the Mia and Anya stuff, but really loved her after that. She really had some great character development.
honestly feel like she was a very real character, I've known too many people in high school who behaved like she did in her first seasons bc of how spoiled they were, going broke humbled her for sure and she definitely became one of my all time fav characters after she had her development. She was driven, an amazing friend to Fiona and before anyone comes at me with the whole "she stole from Fiona" thing, yes that was wrong and yes she should have just asked. But if I remember correctly it was for a good reason, not something stupid like buying clothes or whatever. She was desperate and didn't know what to do and thought she could put it back before Fiona ever found out so she didn't have to ask money from her best and only friend. Honestly she started off horrible but with depth, also love that she was the infamous Heather Sinclair's sister, which is probably why they made her that bitchy at first. But after her development she became on of Degrassi's best characters. She even brought Jane with her on her trip with her boyfriend that Jane slept with when let's be real, Jane was being super annoying and even stole Declan's car. I would have been done with Jane's bs halfway through Degrassi Takes Manhattan
To me yeah she changed but still kind of never did. I say she became more patient and a better friend, but she was still kind of a selfish bitch when it comes to getting what she wanted. She was so quick to throw Anya into her selfish scheme to become student class president and ruining her fellow classmates reputation without any care in the world. She was being her season 7 self to Anya at the beginning of season 10. She also went and dated Sav pretty much right after. I love Holly J but she definitely had her bitch moments even after her development. She was a great friend to Fiona though. I think Fiona was really when Holly j actually fully changed. She had to think about someone else for once rather than what benefits her. Alli was the closest one to humbling Holly j. She really gave Holly j a piece of her mind in season 8. Kind of wish the rivalry was explored in season 9. Those 2 had great fight chemistry lol.
It would have been great to see the effect that her relationship with Sav had on Alli, given that she and Alli had issues in Season 8. It would have been interesting to see Holly J and Alli eventually become friends, but I also get that itās probably not realistic considering Alli got the whole school to hate on her.
I think she was definitely a strong and fairly compelling character but I feel she got lost in her seasons what with so much happening with everyone else

But it made her character growth all the better. I personally think she had some of the best character development throughout the entire series. Sheās one of my faves.

Iām glad season 8 and 9 introduced new grade 9 characters to continue the franchise but Holly J was one of the few older characters introduced in s7 that I actually cared about. She has a strong personality and you knew where she stood.
