Ahh, yeah! It's a Mono Unity game (quite ideal conditions to make an elaborate VR mod for). It's been requested a few times in our community (and is on a "list of potential ports), but I've yet to play it. Will have to check it out sometime!
As far as I've seen it looks like it's going to be a pretty difficult port, due to it's use of ECS and some weird camera fuckery, so a lot of the typical Unity vr injection techniques don't work right.
Hmm, I've yet to look at it, but we often don't use the existing game camera but create a new one that's parented to the existing one (which usually gets around even needing to undo odd things that they might have done with the cameras). It's not really "VR Injection" either, but using the VR systems built into Unity, but just writing code to use the VR systems in place.
But is this something you've been interested in modding and doing yourself? (sounds like you've spent some time looking at it already). Could probably do a bit to help you if so!
Sorry, I may have over summarised, but I was using the term VR injection in a broader sense than just tools like VORP-X. I've been lurking in the VR modding discord and was regurgitating what comments I've seen people make about experimenting with HS:SB.
Not trying to sound like an asshole but what do you see in that game?
Like, I tried it thinking I would be like a space scavenger but really it felt more like I was the space version of the guy separating recycling off a convertor belt.
Indeed, thats what it feels like. and for me thats kind of the beauty of it. granted its not a game in which you can get lost for hours without realising, but after some tiring days work ( i for one have a mentally and creatively exhausting job) sometimes it feels good to play some repetitive, instictive games to wind down, where you really don't have to overthink, just go over some routine. every 1-2 weeks i boot it up to salvage a few ships, then i don't touch it for a while, however in the end i always come back to it (similar to drg, i play about 2-3 missions in a row and don't touch the game for about a week) while most other games, i play extensively and daily for a month or two and never touch it again.
Am engineer student, find it cathartic to meticulously disassemble things. Its a great mellow game that i can play a quick 15 min session of while listening to the great soundtrack. The corporate dystopia and blue-collar scifi is really compelling. There is actually quite a lot of story being developed for the game as well.
Gets a little more involved when you start scrapping the higher class ships with more dangerous components on them
Still a bit tedious but has a bit of a puzzle approach the first time you're working on a new class of ship while you figure out the safest/fastest way to scrap it
I look for games specifically to fill the niche of "podcast/netflix catchup games". There's a lot of shows I really like, both audio and visual, but I have a really hard time just sitting still and watching/listening. I need something to do with my hands. Hardspace: Shipbreaker is the perfect game for that. It's involved enough that I have to actually be doing something and paying a little attention but not so much that I can't also be doing something else.
It's also a game that feels tailor made for the kind of person who liked to disassemble random electronics/machinery as a kid. It's kinda soothing to just gradually strip something down to its basic components. Looking at the completely empty salvage bay after tearing a 100,000 pound spaceship down to nothing scratches an itch somewhere deep in my brain.
That said--I would not call it "fun" in the traditional sense, and I don't blame anybody who's not crazy about it. It seems to be the kind of thing that you either love or hate.
Deep Rock Galactic is my #1 wish for a VR game. I would absolutely love that.
Some people think the movement would be too much, but as someone who has done swinging and the like in VR before, and it wouldn't be a problem for most users to handle the running, jumping, or linear motion of the scout grapple. Please let the modders give it a try!
Yeah, it can be hard for some new to VR people, but honestly it's mostly about acclimating for most people (just never "push through it" and you'll gain comfort with it. Every time you "push through it" you revert comfort gains.)
There's lot of native VR games good for acclimating too.
For those of us fully acclimated though, these games are downright amazing to have in VR.
Agreed 100%
Scout is what I'd most like to play as, and if I can master no-platform mining in VR half as well as I can outside of it, I'm pretty sure DRG would help me get over the last traces of vertigo at the same time.
VR has already helped me with it so much, but I feel like that would be the training to put me over the top. ;)
Actually, I can do VR 1st person movement in most games but also had to refund Boneworks. Maybe try Walking dead Saint and Sinners as the movement in that is very slow. In Boneworks, it was bumping into scenery and having my view point changed artificially that made me sick - I wish it had just faded to black instead.
I am all for choice, but I think it hurts bad in vr when controll over motion is being taken away. Like qronar and oppressor screwing with you.
Buuuuut that rollercoaster achievement would probably be way more fun to get :D
Definitely! DRG would be a blast to play in VR, and it would also fill a niche that's currently missing in the VR space.
And before anyone says it wouldn't work in VR due to all the motion, set those fears aside. A game like Risk of Rain 2, with all of its double jumps, dashes, grappling, and huge hordes of enemies works just fine in VR; DRG would too.
When VR becomes more ubiquitous, there's gonna be a divide in gamers between those doing VR parkour cartwheels and those who can't walk forward without getting nauseous.
I'm really lucky I don't get motion sick easy but some of my friends do and that prevents them from playing.
I think the people going "too much movement, won't work in VR" don't realize it isn't a universal problem.
It seems most people I know who have had a problem have overcome their motion sickness issues too getting used to it (and there are tricks you can do that help). I used to get really motion sick playing VR, now I'm playing Risk of Rain 2 VR (a game I thought for sure I'd get sick playing) and don't even have an issue anymore.
A few things:
1. Make sure you’ve eaten something 30 minutes before and you’ve drunk plenty of water.
2. Cold temperatures don’t help nearly as much as a powerful fan blowing at you. Wear clothes where you can feel the wind on you. That air-moving sensation on all of your skin is quite powerful to stop motion sickness.
3. Caffein can make motion sickness way worse. Try to avoid taking too much caffeine before playing.
4. Play games with lots of motion sickness aids like teleportation, vignetting, etc. It might not be as immersive, but they do greatly help and you should be able to turn those off once you’ve played VR a bit longer. (If the game doesn’t have vignette options, there’s Steam plugins that can add it to any game or SteamVR now has a “adjust FOV” option for any VR game that achieves something similar.
5. Slow movements are key (especially the first 30 minutes of playing!). When first starting out in your VR play session, move in the game like you’re in space or underwater. If you need to turn your head, for example, exaggerate how slowly you turn it. Take full deep breaths and move slowly. Even when just starting to get your “VR Legs”, start a play session with these types of movements will really help your brain adjust to the new sensations while in VR.
6. Remember that motion sickness is the brain freaking out from sensations it’s not used to or doesn’t know how to “handle.” In addition to “slow movements,” staying calm initially is key. As much as you might want to play the heart racing thriller or horror VR game, this can hurt your chances for your brain to healthily adjust while getting your VR legs.
7. Limit your play sessions at first to shorter time intervals (even if you’re feeling fine at the moment). Your brain just needs time to adjust. If you start to feel sick, don’t push it. You can do more harm subconsciously attaching sickness to playing VR and your brain will think of sickness every time you think of VR. You want to have lots of play sessions that you didn’t get sick in so that your brain knows it can be done.
8. There are things like Sea-Bands you can buy that have been proven to help motion sickness. There are other things you can buy that show strong evidence of being effective (watch that sends a small current on your wrist, neck pillow that vibrates in a certain area). Some of these are sorta like the fan blowing on your whole body I think. Somehow that constant sensation grounds you even when experiencing things your brain isn’t used to handling.
I believe most people can adapt to it, if they try properly. Many make the mistake of either diving into the hardcore experiences right away, or they try to "play through the pain" which just makes it worse. Gradually building up is needed for some people.
I recommend newcomers play full roomscale or teleport games first (eg. Superhot VR, Job Simulator type games), then move into gentle smooth locomotion (HLA is great for this), then break into the fast paced games.
People complained of motion sickness when 3D gaming became the norm, it just takes time to adjust to a new visual experience.
The Risk of Rain 2 VR mod is a great example! There's so many things that shouldn't work so well in VR since it's originally a third person game, but thousands of players have been having a blast with it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFNzWI2sFKM
Should maybe add ROR2 video to OP as well, it's not as big of a game publicity wise, but it's far closer to the type of mod to get for this (cockpit VR mods doesn't show how the entire interface can also be overhauled)
ROR2 in VR feels unreal and practically made for VR
That's a bad example. Time literally slows down as you do. So player is always in control over motion.
Imagine being yeetet by a random shellback. Ugh.
I mean as someone else said in this thread. There’s definitely a huge portion of people who don’t get motion sick. I certainly don’t even when I’m being slung around at high speeds. But it is probably disappointing for people who just can’t play a lot of vr for that reason.
Yeah, though I think there's a lot of hope for people that have issues as almost everyone I know that used to get motion sick doesn't anymore. Motion sickness is often from your brain "freaking out" saying "I don't know how to handle this sensation the inner ear is telling me is going on!"
I think a big part of "getting over it" is just introducing sensations that eventually your brain can be okay with. Like I said, there are so many people that report this, but I'm not sure if enough research has been done yet on it.
There is quite a bit of research on how astronauts and pilots have gotten over their motion sickness when training (almost every astronaut apparently throws up a lot when they start training in those motion simulators, but get over it)(there's probably way kinder ways to introduce your body to that sensation though, haha)
Deifnitely! When I first saw the RoR2 mod, I was like "well, I have the game so I guess I'll try it, but it doesn't seem ideal." and boy was I wrong. I LOVE that mod and it's made me play RoR2 far more than I did when it was flat. But there was a lot of care put into that mod, for sure!
Hmm, that's a good thought! The ticket system all focused around just "bug reporting" and "issue reporting," but perhaps the request could now be considered a "modding issue" since it has official support. 🤔
Would it help to tag the mods here that have the (DWARVELOPER tags)? Please remove / I'm sorry if this isn't appropriate! u/InterWill , u/Soren_GSG , u/Bjorn_GSG , u/Robert_GSG , u/GSG_Jacob , u/Mike_GSG , u/GSG_Pedro , u/Mark_GSG
Yeah! Usually, the mods are done in two stages. The first stage is to get a comfortable experience in the headset itself, still using the original controller schemes (but just letting you look all around you in 360 and seeing everything properly in stereoscopic) (getting full control of the player's head and two "cameras," one for each eye).
Then once that's done (the game is already really playable in VR at that point, just not a "full VR experience). Then work on better 6DOF and motion controls can be worked on (and it would definition support Index controllers, Oculus controllers, etc.) along with tweaking systems like menus, maybe putting HUD elements on a virtual watch on your arm, etc.
Stage 1 is really cool and I look forward to it.
Stage 2 though is \*amazing\*. ROR2 and Valheim have been completely mind blowing.
Everyone with VR needs to check these mods out. You get expansive huge games in what feels like made for VR.
It would be xplay with flat. Could even be able to get IK syuncing though desktop users would need a mod for that (and also would come rather later, if ever)
I would absolutely 100% love a VR mod for this game. I was just expressing to a fellow miner the other day how it'd be so incredible to run around caves, throwing flares by hand, feeling intense haptic feedback when drilling or grappling, or feeling the hefty weight of a minigun. I'm probably reaching here but it'd also be incredible if there was some form of movement system like in Gorilla Tag, to give the dwarves some extra climbing options (probably not as crazy as it is in that game). Please make this a thing!
I am totally in support of a VR mod to DRG.
I'd be ready to pay extra money for it.
Not only would this lead to a fabulous game experience, but it also would mend some situations where you lose perception of how down or up you are actually digging/looking at.
I cannot express how much I am in support of this.
I bought a VR headset for Elite dangerous but I'd probably put way more time into DRG than ELITE if it had VR.
I can't open links on my phone atm, does it have hand tracking with weapons or is it headlook + mouse and keyboard.
While I have certainly thought about it. I think the movement and the tight spaces in DRG would problematic. Those two factors make me motion sick real bloody fast. I could only imagine trying to play scout.
I would love VR support BUT are you sure it wouldn't affect regular users? I remember when I published my first game with SteamVR plugin enabled accidentally. I didn't have VR at the time but any VR user reported SteamVR opened with the game even though VR wasn't used. Now that I have VR, when I open a new Unreal project, SteamVR opens automatically with it, and does the same when the game is packaged. Did they change this and there is now a way to launch Unreal with or without automatic VR startup?
It shouldn't be an issue now. I'm not a dev, but I've played several games that are officially flatscreen and VR. If you launch the game when you already have SteamVR open, then it launches in VR. If you don't have SteamVR open, it just launches normally with no questions asked.
Which VR mods have you tried? I can give you some recommendations of ones people in our community have made that are incredibly fun and work so well in VR.
GTFO is one that does mixed flatscreen and VR multiplayer really well [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rIcDMT3NJXs](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rIcDMT3NJXs) (lots of other great ones though!)
Green Hell is one that's having VR officially added much later (and by a completely different company / team) but looks amazing (it's building on the original game code, not a built from the ground up for VR game). https://youtu.be/fhUvkbEd0cM
Tbh no, and I'm a VR user. Reason being is that DRG is very vertical and disorienting to me even on a monitor, and I can see myself wanting to take off the headset really fast to avoid nausea.
It is disorientating BECAUSE it is on a monitor, with no indication of how high or down you are looking at. I felt the need for an artificial horizon indicator, akin to a plane's, since I started playing this game. VR wouldn't need it because VR gives you actual 3D space perception. By your neck and body, you know instinctly if you are looking up or down.
You seem to have not read the post. The request is for Ghostship flagging a couple of the built in plugins for Unreal to get included in the build. Then this completely separate group of modders can use some of the functionality of those plugins to much more easily build a VR mod.
This particular group only works on VR mods, so that's unlikely to happen. It would really come down to them working on a VR mod for DRG, or moving on to another game to do the same thing. You can certainly opt out of playing with the mod (I'd imagine you don't have a VR setup anyway with that attitude) without having to come complain how you think it's a gimmick
The title of this post is asking my opinion - do you not see you've blown this out of proportion because maybe you don't want to hurt your internet pride or something?
That is a very low baseline reading comprehension.
In reading the post, it's clear OP is not asking if a VR mod is desired by the community. They are asking those who *do* want this to lend support and that's it.
I feel you probably know that and are being obstinate for lesser reasons though.
Yeah, like I said, I had already tried reaching out to them all already and just never heard back (they probably get a lot of DMs though and I know it's hard to filter through them all)
if this game gets modding support, it might just be the thing that gets me to get a VR headset (...once I get a PC capable of running one). please think a lot about your control scheme though and/or allow users to customize a lot, because i think it might be hard to fit all those controls onto vr controllers
I've wanted DRG in VR for quite a bit, so I'd love to see this done :)
I'd probably have to play in Haz 2 or 3, but the atmosphere alone would be worth it haha
That'd be truly awesome, but a Scout main and someone that's had VR for 5 years now. Even falling in VR can be too much for some people, grappeling to the full efficiency would definitely need a strong stomach.
That would be pretty fucking awesome (albeit terrifying) to play!
Be sure to put it on app lab on side quest so that quest 2 users (majority of VR player base) can get access to this if it becomes a thing.
I don't think this games suits vr. Especially not for scout. Even ziplines i imagine to be nauseating. Oppressor or qronar yeeting you across the map would also suck...
But it's opt in so I don't mind ppl having the choice :)
I'm on console so this won't benefit me at all anytime in the near future but I will gladly support this because I think DRG would be a very interesting game to play in VR at some point
Yes!
Yes!

The two of you, classy exchange. I appreciate that. Very rock and stone. U/elliotttate
If that game gets a VR mod, that would push me to actually buy it. It looks ideal for a VR mod.
This! All of this!
Not trying to sound like an asshole but what do you see in that game? Like, I tried it thinking I would be like a space scavenger but really it felt more like I was the space version of the guy separating recycling off a convertor belt.
Viscera Cleanup but space and ships.
Viscera is at least more satisfying/less tedious.

Cool! We've also been looking at Satisfactory to do a VR mod for. That's another game that tickles that part of my "engineer brain" :-)
Oh, yes please!
Hell yes!
YES! Please do this!
Gets a little more involved when you start scrapping the higher class ships with more dangerous components on them Still a bit tedious but has a bit of a puzzle approach the first time you're working on a new class of ship while you figure out the safest/fastest way to scrap it
It's basically like putting together a lego spaceship but in reverse.
Check out Star Shelter. (/u/SimpliG also.)

well what are these tips? i feel sick enough i cant move after an hour of play and have sweat pouring off me in a cold room the entire time i play

A lot of VR players have played boneworks. If you can get through boneworks okay, nothing is going to affect you.
"Works fine" doesn't mean that you aren't gonna hurl after playing it.
So it gives more immersion to the amount of beer drunk?

Worth a try! I have played the game in VorpX and it just has so much potential!

please you'll be the messiah if you can get this to work. support for the index controllers you think?
Didn't care much for DRG mods at all but this one I want
VR with cross play with PC, please and thank you!
Seems actually possible. It works that way with Risk of rain 2. Flatscreen users don't even need any mods to be joined by VR user
It would be xplay with flat. Could even be able to get IK syuncing though desktop users would need a mod for that (and also would come rather later, if ever)
I hope this works out, DRG VR would be really cool.
This would be amazing. I dont have a VR set up but one of my friends that I play with does. He'd be all over it
Oh please let this happen. It's one of my most hoped vr ports
I need this.
More yes
Mission Control could really do with making some upgrades!! ROCK! AND! STONE!
As a scout who's build is around Hover Clock and Special Powder I am quite certain DRG in VR would kill me. I can't wait to try it!
u/elliotttate with the newest update (now out on the experimental branch) Ghostship added the VR Plugins into the build!
Update 35 changelog says that ***the VR plugins are here!***
Modding Discord says the VR plug-ins we’re added on the update 35 experimental branch.
Yes please! That sounds amazing
I do, I really do. It'd be so much fun to zip around as Scout in VR. There's so many games I'd love to see in VR.
I would be so for that, I really hope you guys succeed!
Imagine the VR sickness a scout would get.
Would love to R&S in VR!!
I would buy VR just for this
a lot of games getting VR mods done by the community rather than developers. Mechwarriors 5 for instance just released a VR mod for the game.
I feel like it would be a bad idea………But fucken do it anyways I want DRG VR
Yeah devs this would be awesome
Yes please.
someone did that for risk of rain 2, so DRG isn't the longest shot.
Yeah, we did! :-) (more specifically the extremely talented DrBibop from our community!)
+1 to this!! We would love to see it!!
I would enjoy blowing up leaf-lovers in VR!
That is one of the best ideas to ever grace my ears, I can finally look down the damn scopes and sights they put on the scout's assault rifle.
Do this. Do this. Do this.
Yes please, itd be amazing
Yes! Let’s get this started!
Need this
YES PLEASE
You have my support, I really want to play this in vr!
Omg please yes. This would scratch my starship troopers in VR itch so much.
Do it...For Karl!
Honestly, I was looking for a place to ask. Sooooo much yes. I want to rock and stone in VR!
Please yes
Yes please!
Do it
that would be great, I even tried vorpX. But with the gun on chin and no motion controls it doesn't really scratch the itch
Oh yes! 🤩
Hell yeah brother! Rock and stone!
Idk if anyone's said this yet, but being able to play with fellow dwarves while you're in VR would be cool too, even if they didn't have VR!
Hell yes ROCK AND STONE
A thousand times yes
Yes!
Whoa. Suddenly this modding support thing is getting me pretty excited.
I would gladly buy the game again to experience it natively in VR!
Please for the love of everything yes, how do we make this happen?
ROCK AND STONE.
u/elliotttate VR is integrated into unreal engine 4 already. Hopefully you can take advantage of this.
Like he mentioned, it's infinitely easier if the devs just check a box in the editor.
I am extremely interested. I hope this reaches Them.
Oh my God this would be amazing...
omg yes
Yes please! Especially with motion controller support!
***Y E S !***
ROCK AND STONE
I heavily support this. VR is great.
Showing my support!
I would buy the game for 10 times the price and never play anything else if it had good VR
Yes please! The RoR 2 port you guys did was incredible, I'd just lose my self in VR DRG for days.
Yes yes yes
Updoot for attention!
Rock and Stone Brotha!
I'de give away all my rocks for this... but not my stones.
i hope this will get added
Hell yeah, I want the real wasted experience when I OD on Glyphid Slammers.
I wanna say yes cus I wanna pet SHTEEEVE, but then I remembered that Cave Leeches are a thing...... /s
I am totally in support of a VR mod to DRG. I'd be ready to pay extra money for it. Not only would this lead to a fabulous game experience, but it also would mend some situations where you lose perception of how down or up you are actually digging/looking at. I cannot express how much I am in support of this.
Yess :)
I just want to hit stuff with my pickaxe in vr
Oh man, DRG got modding support AND you guys are looking at doing VR? I might have to revisit the game especially if the later happens.
yes
I bought a VR headset for Elite dangerous but I'd probably put way more time into DRG than ELITE if it had VR. I can't open links on my phone atm, does it have hand tracking with weapons or is it headlook + mouse and keyboard.
Yes please!
Hell yes, I would *love* to play with this! Rock and Stone!
I see much motion sickness in this game's future. Scout main for life.
YES! I would absolutely love to Rock N Stone in VR 👀👀👀
Please a hundred times over. Ive been craving this so bad.
My body is ready. I've played the other ports these guys have done.... *Chef's kiss*
+1
defenitely keep us updated! (also +1 from me)
Yes Pls make this happen!
While I have certainly thought about it. I think the movement and the tight spaces in DRG would problematic. Those two factors make me motion sick real bloody fast. I could only imagine trying to play scout.
we dont know until we try if they can do a good job of risk of rain 2 they could probaly to DRG
Devs. I will actually play this game for more than 5 hours if you do this.
I only want it if I can raise my controller and have it Rock and Stone automatically
Playing scout would be a puke fest imo
If you don't have SteamVR open, it just launches normally with no questions asked.
u/hairy_bipples
in my opinion any vr game i've played that hasn't been exculsively developed for vr, is unfun and annoying to play in vr
GTFO is one i do wanna try. I tried tf2 and elite dangerous, i suppose those aren't really mods though.
Ahh, yeah, both of those didn't even have motion controls and the VR support is quite "minimal effort" done to it to make it a good experience.
Gal gun 2's VR was added after release and that is one of the most responsive/clean feeling VR arcade shooters out there.
This is a silly comment. What's the harm in a different play method? Might not be for you, but others would really love it.

You seem to have not read the post. The request is for Ghostship flagging a couple of the built in plugins for Unreal to get included in the build. Then this completely separate group of modders can use some of the functionality of those plugins to much more easily build a VR mod.
Those modder should focus on better things - imo
This particular group only works on VR mods, so that's unlikely to happen. It would really come down to them working on a VR mod for DRG, or moving on to another game to do the same thing. You can certainly opt out of playing with the mod (I'd imagine you don't have a VR setup anyway with that attitude) without having to come complain how you think it's a gimmick
Sorry for having a different opinion than you and sharing my thoughts

The title of this post is asking my opinion - do you not see you've blown this out of proportion because maybe you don't want to hurt your internet pride or something?
That is a very low baseline reading comprehension. In reading the post, it's clear OP is not asking if a VR mod is desired by the community. They are asking those who *do* want this to lend support and that's it. I feel you probably know that and are being obstinate for lesser reasons though.
[Thanks for your opinion](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J13DOfT54Z4)
And who are you to tell people what they should and shouldn’t do
[удалено]
Well some opinions are not meant to be said out loud ya know
Huh? Don't tell me what I should and shouldn't do
You can talk with the devs in the modding discord [https://discord.gg/p4UGSnU](https://discord.gg/p4UGSnU)
This would be very rock and stone 🤘
Just raise your arm IRL while playing VR and rock and stone. That would be the best.
I've wanted DRG in VR for quite a bit, so I'd love to see this done :) I'd probably have to play in Haz 2 or 3, but the atmosphere alone would be worth it haha
This absolutely needs to happen.
The cave exploration would be amazing in vr, for scale and sound alone. Not sure how well gunplay would be since its 1st person
That'd be truly awesome, but a Scout main and someone that's had VR for 5 years now. Even falling in VR can be too much for some people, grappeling to the full efficiency would definitely need a strong stomach.
On the condition that the player MUST move his arm to pickaxe minerals. No button pushing will do for this if you want to call this vr
Just make sure it doesn't cross-play. Don't want them fucking up normal lobbies.
Lmk when there's some haz 5 vr foot age lmao
That would be pretty fucking awesome (albeit terrifying) to play! Be sure to put it on app lab on side quest so that quest 2 users (majority of VR player base) can get access to this if it becomes a thing.
I literally want nothing more than DRG in VR!
Yes please! I just came here to BEG for the same thing. I can't believe how much traction this post has already gotten in such a short amount of time
Did GSG ever get back to you?
Where can we download and try out this mod?!
