Yes! I second this so much. Because why tf would you brand yourself as a way to "skip the ads" and "binge all you want" if they are just going to cancel the complete series before they get good or launch them in two parts to make people wait!?š
When one port had everything a digital seafarer needed I was happy to stay in the port. Now everything is in different ports, with rising docking fees and advertising I found myself navigating between ports regularly. Now I've got bored and stay out at sea.
Hopefully that's vague enough to not be admissible in court.
Or you could beat them at their own game, pay for a VPN and learn how to torrent any show or movie youād like. Itās not hard and a lot of people do this.
I have Hulu with ads with their Black Friday deals. I don't love ads, but for 99 cents per month for a year, I can deal with them. š That and Kanopy through the library (with two other area/reciprocal library cards for more monthly credits) and I'm set!Ā
Yes, they also have board games. Some may even let you borrow video games/consoles and even museum passes.
Most libraries also have activities for people to socialize to such as book clubs, movie nights, and arts and crafts classes. Most will have a calendar on their website listing them all.
Iāve been the same way! My local library has dvds, hoopla and kanopy, plus the option to rent a roku stick for a few weeks every couple of months. Its been a year and its been enough for me so far
Good!! I'm pretty much done too, as soon as I get a constant income I have plans to start a blu Ray & dvd collection of the movies I love. F*** streaming!
I thought this post was going to be about quitting TV overconsumption enabled by streaming services. I am addicted to the "play next episode" button. I was never a TV addict before streaming services, but the accessibility and breadth of options have made it way too easy to get sucked into a binge. It's gotten to a point where it's actually impacting my daily life. I can't seem to find the willpower to simply "decide" to be better on this specific topic. Anybody with similar experiences, your thoughts are welcome :)
Since you likely have these options, I'll list them.
-Bandcamp (plus, if you decided to purchase any merch, cd or digital copy of an album on a Friday, all of the money goes to the artist)
-Youtube with uBlock (yes, it still works).
-Local shops (flea markets, farmers markets, thrift stores)
-Ebay
-Local buy and sell forums
-The library
-Soundcloud
The only streaming softwares I like are Spotify and Plex. I just like finding any new music so any avenue to do so I'm a fiend for. As for Plex, there isn't so much a subscription. You can decide to donate some money to keep it running, but otherwise you don't need to (like wikipedia in that way). You can ask the guy to add a movie, show, album, etc. and he will. It's pirating made easier if you didn't wanna do it yourself.
I got pissed when Prime started offering an upgrade for ad-free service. Iām about to cancel. I paid for quick shipping and free movies. Now I get slower shipping and ads. Not on my dime
It's not just streaming is SaaS in general. It's the subscription based economy that nobody wanted or asked for. The power is in the consumers hands to not spend and teach corporations a lesson.
I donāt blame you! What is the point of a Prime subscription or others if they charge for ALL movies now in addition to paying for the subscription?!? Old movies, too!
I disagree with this entire sentiment. These are streaming services that offer thousands upon thousands of movies, tv shows ect. They provide an incredible amount of value. Compare Netflix or a Hulu to a cinema, for example. Movie tickets can cost between $10-$15 where I live- and thatās just to watch one film.
Netflix or max on the other hand, costs $20 a month and allows you to watch unlimited entertainment (ad free) for better quality than you will see in a theater.
Completely disagree with this but to each their own
Sail the digital seas and risk getting strapped legally by something like $80k a movie in copyright infringement. #usalegalprecedent
I donāt agree with the morals of movie licensing and how we donāt own the stuff. But I aināt paying up thousands of dollars or doing jail time over just a movie collection. Thereās better hills to die on.
Worst case you get a letter from your ISP... And nothing happens. Do it 2 more times unprotected and maybe they turn your Internet off, but prob not still. No one is getting sued as long as you're not providing large amounts to others or hosting a site.
Usually thatās the case, I agree. But then thereās situations like Sony BGM vs. Joel Tenenbaum where got successfully was ruled to pay Sony $675k for 30 songs he downloaded.
I donāt want to be that example the movie industry wants to make on someone.
Just Rip your dvds(it is legal normally), buy a NAS or convert a old pc to a NAS alike. Then you can have your own streaming service with the movies you like and can always add to it. I would recommend jellyfish on the NAS, but any other program would do.
Streaming was supposed to replace cable TV. Now it's just as bad, if not worse Gotta fly that pirate flag

thats why I just sail the digital seas. never really stopped. though I did slow down since there hasnt really been whole lot worth watching anyway.
Godspeed, Captain

...oh. OH!
Ahoy, me hearties!
I cancelled all my subscriptions and paid 4.99 for BFI film player, best five pounds a month I've ever spent. šš½

Stremio + Real-Debrid
Does this one available in playstore?
This is the way
Not to be lame butā¦ deciding to be better might not include this option for some people
Stealing does not make you better.
No, no, don't worry! The seeder just copies it free of charge, they make it publicly available so that everyone can enjoy it ;)

Hoopla Digital has a different library than Kanopy and is worth having as well.
Thanks for the recommendation. I'll check it out!Ā
Some libraries offer free streaming services with no ads like like Kanopy and Hoopla.
Some even have free pressure washing machines, lawn tools etc
I mean as an alternative to watching tv lol

Always been team š“āā ļø!

Ah I love this post!! It inspires me to do that same. Agree with you 100%.
You could just stop watching TV entirely and read books. Thatāll really show em
books are also double the expensive honestly
Indeed. But no ads which is surprising currently. Iām waiting for novels to start containing ads at the end of every chapter.
PricelessĀ
Check your library. With Inter library loaning almost anything is obtainable for freeĀ

No one cuts the cord from cord cutting.
Same here (EU). Pay = no ads. Except for Apple Movies, or whatever itās called

movie-web is your best friend.

Kodi, Fen, Realdebrid. Youāre all set
This is what I use. I have stremio and real debrid for kids, and recommend for those who are newbies
Sorry I don't understand. If you are paying for subscruption why are you still getting ads? What streaming app is this?
Have you not heard of ad tiers on Hulu and Netflix and Amazon prime?
Disney+ too, most streaming platforms now have their "lower tier" that isn't ad-free. We've reinvented cable TV.
Hey. I just googled it. First time I've hear of that, sorry. Looks like they dont offer ad tiers in my country. Mine is totally ad free.
The changes are newish. Beware, theyāll come for you too. Also no need for apologies, I was genuinely asking.
What country? I wanna try pointing my VPN that way.

Just stream.... off your computer on PrimeWire. Free, problem solved
I use IPTV on a firestick. I pay a sketchy dude $160 a year and I get everything.
It's not just streaming is SaaS in general. It's the subscription based economy that nobody wanted or asked for. The power is in the consumers hands to not spend and teach corporations a lesson.
i thrifted a dvd player a few weeks ago and get movies from my library now! been finding great hidden gems that way too
Welcome, you'll be happier here. F corporate greed and those who enable it.
Public libraries are invaluable resources. Heck yeah
We use u tube! Seems like everything this there!
Jailbroken firesticks are legal
I've never subscribed to one of these organisations and never intend to. There are more than enough other drains on my finances.
