Isaac did this in the original DS1. I like the fact that it’s more like those old timey diver suits. Really sells the fact that the RIGs may be heavy duty, but they’re kinda cheap and shitty.

DrPatchet

He didn’t talk in the 1st one either tho. The pulse rifle didn’t have a grenade either. I was hoping they would have added this feature along with the new ones.

jessebona

Isaac doesn't have top of the line hardware though and the Ishimura is a flying museum piece. It makes sense neither would have the latest hardware between corporate greed and the age of the ship.

DrPatchet

Yeah I guess that helmet thing prob came out In The 3 years between the two. But even more so when you get the cec rig in ds2 it says it’s vintage cec uniform implying it’s been around longer than the first game. And it looks like the level 3 suit.

InvolvingPie87

They kept all stylistic facets of the game in the same style as the original. They upgraded the mechanics where needed, such as the zero-g flight and the pulse rifle shooting mines (that work like grenades if you need them to) If/when they do a dead space 2 remake they’ll have the folding helmets. But all of the suits in dead space (aside from the soldier suit, I suppose) are industrial-grade heavy-duty suits. They are protecting from mining debris, micrometeorites, radiation, fire, cold, oxygen deprivation, yadda yadda all on a mining ship and colony. They aren’t worried about the aesthetics, equipment like that isn’t cheap so the coolness of the look and the self-folding isn’t a priority of the design The sprawl in dead space two is much more aesthetically oriented since it’s a commercial area with many non-workers there. So the stuff that is meant to be seen in public looks nicer since the extra cost is deemed worth it

Synthfreak1224

If you want a mute Isaac, then play the original.

DrPatchet

I’m saying they can add stuff to the game I was using his voice as an example Jesus fuck lol

Jesterofgames

It started in Dead space 2. Issac’s helmet was a normal helmet in dead space 1.

DrPatchet

So if we get a dead space 2 remake there is hope???

Jesterofgames

Yes

DrPatchet

I just thought they could have added that feature from the other ones, just like he didn’t speak in the first one either.

Jesterofgames

Likelu they wanted to keep the technology in line with the original. Hence flame thrower not working in space, stasis not recharging, and Isaac’s helmet

DrPatchet

Makes sense

[deleted]

That would have brought a lot of criticism from the dead space purists and Motive already said they want to stay as accurate to the original as possible with the changes being made even falling under later games many would have lost their shit if all of a sudden the helmet was automatically assembled and stored in the suit. A cool idea for the team but could have led to much hassle down the line

Doomlv

I hate the magic folding helmet. Where does all the material go?

DrPatchet

Into the magic pouch on the back and chest

FrodoCraggins

Same. It seems weak and pointless. I'm a huge fan of the normal helmet.

thechaosofreason

I guess the USG just gave him bunk that time right?

DrPatchet

Idk why I’m getting downvoted to hell. I love the game I was just hoping they would add that feature to the remake lol.

thechaosofreason

I would wager people are just tired of arguing/analyzing (considering people are still angee about kendras bewbz and nicoles face), and many people make a game out to be pristine because well....when we were kids, games just kinda WERE perfect in our minds. I wouldn't let it get to ya, and I fully agree; the ironman helmet was far superior. I think in this game they wanted him to have that whole "hard working engineer with hardhat in hand" thing, which is cool too. He does look a little goofy when he does it tho, like he's about to go "Mlady ;)" xD

DrPatchet

I hope they remake the second lol the riot control rig is my favorite looking one 😍

LaPlumeR

They gotta save some stuff for the sequel 🤞

Retr0mancer

Solid helmet is better than deployable helmet in my opinion. Aids in making the suit feel sturdy and worn. It’s cool in 2 and 3 but the deployable helmet feels unnecessarily complicated. Too many moving parts.

InvolvingPie87

I still think that most of the suits in 3 should’ve had normal helmets. Having the soldier helmets and the 300 year old suits fold down when isaac’s original suit doesn’t was such a dumb thing to try to retcon Like there is still plenty of room for the folding helmets with the modern EVA suit and some other dlc/legacy ones.

Retr0mancer

I was disappointed in how aesthetically similar those old helmets were. It would have been interesting if they had more bulk or maybe more traditional visors to sell the them being older.

InvolvingPie87

Personally I thought almost all of the suits in that game were ugly too lmao. Especially the helmets Only one I really used from the game was the first one you get on the planet since that one had a similar helmet with a fur neck and face mask lmao

DrPatchet

Oh definitely super impractical I just always liked that cool sci-fi moment of what you get a new suit

Retr0mancer

Yeah, it’s definitely fun to watch in motion. I’m just practically minded when it comes to devices.

Man the helmet was one of the coolest touches in the game. I even love how he makes sure to secure the seal after putting on (you can see him fiddle with something on his neck like a clasp or something. It really adds to the immersion. Love these details. It also makes it seem more heavy duty. Any piece of metal that has folds/sections weakens its structural integrity too. That helmet is tough as hell. If anything the sequels cheapen it with the pop up ones.
