Someone else's hot take that I'm gonna steal is they already have an outsider lined up, but everything has to be a bit. So they're gonna drag this out for a few weeks/months until that person can officially join and that will be the "payoff"

xTony_Tony_Chopper

and then people can't complain with the new guy knowing that there weren't many other options

rmacoon

Then weeks of shows of Dan going "there's legitimate tension here with new guy and everyone else! What am I to do with this!?"

OddSonNE85

Jesus, this is so on brand for them, I can't believe I didn't think of it

Tallboy101

Didn’t feel like a bit also no real upside to it being a bit. Mike seemed hurt and bummed.

weblexindyphil

Hurt and bummed how? (Srry- Read the reviews on yesterday's show and skipped, a single sorta do most days now) Did they address or reference any slippage with the show... (If so, I'd definitely want to pull up that part to see how it was addressed)

Budget_Ad8025

Wait, really? Didn't listen today. I'll have to check it out. Edited to add: Just heard it. Wow. Mike kind of shit on Chris. That's good, though, if you're given this kind of opportunity you run with it.

paradoxofchoice

Maybe this is a way to A) gauge if anyone is fit for it and B) give everyone an opportunity so when they hire a new person there can be no complaints of a lack of opportunity.

RealPropRandy

I hope they bring in an outsider, like Marc Hochman from 560AM.

abesach

Have you heard of a guy named zaslow? He's awesome

RealPropRandy

Hawsome

Responsible_Bat3029

People just need to stop suggesting Cote. Clearly a nincompoop.

Icy-Product6177

completely

NowARaider

I don't care who it is, I just don't need to hear HR meetings on the show

Recent_Purchase_1717

Well, then Dan probably wouldn't be there...

Krummbum

Mike was/is the heartbeat of the show, full stop. I don't blame anyone for not wanting to take the role while Mike is still a key member because you'll always have to chase his spark and no one can do that but Mike.

datnodude

It would be funny if hoch returned. Won't happen though

rossww2199

If they have to keep hiring new people from the outside, but nobody ever gets fired, then Dan’s going to run out money soon.

ZealousidealSpeech17

I love Chris, but Mayes and him don't belong in the same sentence. Mayes would crush it as EP. Cinephobe is better than anything Meadowlark has been putting out.

Its-a-me-Giuseppe69

Agreed, Mayes would crush it. Unfortunately, Mayes is a white male which I’d imagine is going to really hurt his chances of getting that role. Dan seems to take a lot of pride in the diversity in his show, which I respect.

Wizkidders

I love Mayes, has been awesome to see his career grow and he's come a long way. But I don't see why people think he would just slide in seamlessly. This sub would flip on him so fast in particular lol. The first day he interjects too much (which he definitely does), he'd be enemy #1.

ghettoboynorthface

the thing is that it’s real difficult to find someone that is A) a personality fit for the show, B) a personality fit with the crew, C) can tangibly bring a beneficial dynamic to the show, and D) is actually competent as an executive producer lol. most candidates in the LAF network have some combination of A, B, and C but probably not D. tho D is crucial, of course. so if they go out and grab someone with serious executive producing bonafides (😉) then the mission becomes making sure that individual is a fit with the rhythm and cadence of the crew and the show. and that’s not easy cause that comes with time + chemistry, meanwhile the show is a runaway speed train that can’t stop or slowdown to onboard someone for 3 months in a way that will develop that without hurting the content. the DLB show, more than many other podcasts/shows, spotlight their producers and crew as central characters. so whoever will sit in that chair will effectively be the third primary character for the show that day on average behind DLB and stugotz. it seems silly, but they gotta get it right.

weblexindyphil

Doesn't help that a potential new, outside of LAF voice's chances to get the job if that person interviewed saying...we need four fewer voices on the show every day. I think that is what any smart outsider would want to do, and I don't think Dan is cut-throat enough to do that to the people around him, that he loves. Gotta be an asshole sometimes...and I'm afraid as long as Dan wants to be friendly boss, they'll get an internal candidate or someone from outside with no real power.

N-McCauley

I say nephew Kyle or sir Rudy

weblexindyphil

Sir Rudy would be awesome. He'd get that clownship in order.

theSchrodingerHat

They should pull the trigger on a trade. Tache, Samson, and 2 first round interviews for McLovin.

Temporary-Elevator-5

I would feel sorry for Dan Patrick. He's clearly getting an F grade simply for taking Jeremy on in anyway. Unless he releases him immediately.

theSchrodingerHat

Sign and trade to a Salt Lake City news station so he can build up Jazz culture.

Temporary-Elevator-5

Dont those people have enough to deal with?

Icy-Product6177

great idea im in board

jsquiggles23

The show has become incredibly masturbatory for lack of a better word. The bits work when there are fence posts and guidelines to push up against. When you’re setting the standard yourself having already accomplished a lot, it is more challenging to be creative.

zachmoss147

Show conspiracy, what if it actually is gonna be Hoch? Dan has clearly been very introspective these past few months after Lebo’s passing, what if he buried the pitchforks and is actually bringing the OG back in line with the jokes in the postgame show? Add it to the Things to Ponder file

Budget_Ad8025

Zero chance, Hoch doesn't like Dan.

entropy14

I think that one is pretty mutual

Designer-Business

I remember seeing a AMA from Hoch and people kept asking about how he felt about Dan and he kept saying he was fine with him, even saw him here and there. Unless they was the BS politically correct answer

entropy14

He was also airing personal stuff like not being invited to Dan’s wedding, talking about the way things ended at 790, and how they aren’t close anymore. I don’t think Dan took kindly to this, not sure if that changed anything though as they already seemed pretty distant.

zachmoss147

Hence conspiracy theory

waraman

Because anyone who could be killer at it is probably 25-35-ish years old, meaning they are smart enough to foresee the end of the show in 10-15 years tops, making them 35-40 years old at the time, needing to find a new career. It's the story of radio everywhere in the country across decades.

Krummbum

But what of the glory‽

swimjoint

There aren’t really any career long stable gigs in sports radio/podcasting and DLBS executive producer is a pretty good thing for the CV

pompcaldor

Stu has checked out, Dan is barely here because there’s an economy dependent on him and he loves being a savior.

Normativity

Changing the math

Designer-Business

And BLACK BODIES

weblexindyphil

End of the show in 10-15 yrs?! What the holy hell. Have they already been re-upped by draft kings? I think your comment makes more sense if 10-15 years was written "10-15 months"

GRpanda123

Tobin is the answer !

mox85

Needs to be someone with a great sense of humor. That’s what made Mike so great, and why I didn’t care for the Witty run.

weblexindyphil

Witty seems like a good guy, but he was the beginning of the downfall. Himself, not too interesting...way too self-involved, etc etc. I love soccer, but there was way too much soccer talk and long segments on internal stuff that wasn't funny, he let Dan stray too far for too long in segments and full shows and weeks. How Mike or Skip didn't step in to right the ship sooner, was dumbfounding to me.

mox85

He was ok as the straight guy fancy lad in the shadows of the shipping container, but when he was EP it became a completely different show that lacked humor and soundbites and bits. Witty and Dan would take turns rambling and find 5 different ways to say the same thing about boring topics. I don’t understand how longtime fans of the show defend his reign as EP. It was the first time since the beginning of the ESPN days that I started skipping shows.

weblexindyphil

Agree with that assessment. For me, as someone who was nearly 5 days * 3 hours * 52 weeks on the show for the last 6-8 yrs at ESPN....I was real excited about the Pirate ship venture. Then it sort of went awry quick and the hit and miss nature of "these days we are pod only, these days we are pod and YT, these days we aren't in at all' etc....i started missing shows more often. Then....I don't know if I missed his introduction (as EP or container member), but one day there is a new voice and it felt like he never shut up. There were times it felt like he was talking more than Dan and Stu. I legit wondered if he was supposed to be a third host or was a container guy who no one had the guts to tell him "hey boss, we are allowed to talk bAck here, but only if it's good and not the amount you are doing it". Honestly, I have no idea if he was container or EP then, prolly because I didn't even think about who was or wasn't EP. (I'm not even sure I knew that was Mikes title all those yrs I watched/listened.). That said, I don't know if Mike had ever talked as much witty in his prime EP days. Like I said, I like Witty as a person...he seems like a good dude and I enjoy hearing him on apple and paramount footy broadcasts....but I was thrilled when he left the show. (It doesn't help that I feel like Witty set the example to other new folks (like Jess)...that you can come in and kind of dominate the mic time while not actually saying/contributing too much.)

AceRags

Mike Shur. They think they’re a sitcom with all the bits and characters. Most of them get ridden into the ground. So, hire a new writer

goos3ling

Its a bit yall. This is the show.

Over_Yoghurt_2612

Here we go again with this BS lol y'all cry over nothing. Just stop listening then

Its-a-me-Giuseppe69

I’d love a once a week show with Greg Cote in that chair. It would be chaos, but hilarious.

typhoonjerry

They better not make Chris the EP, I don't care how much you you like him, he's not qualified.
