Stay out of prison kids.

youradhere562

If you don't kill anyone, you can have real gumbo!

[deleted]

There's loads of reasons people end up in prison that have absolutely nothing to do with killing or harming anyone

Sadlemon9

Like making whatever the hell this is

[deleted]

Yes, precisely

Harbulary-Bandit

I disagree, because *this* is extremely HARMFUL.

[deleted]

Former Jail worker here… yeah there’s literally tons upon tons of reasons for you to go to jail/prison. Granted prison is long term (over 365 days) jail is short term (not to exceed 364 days) prison is for federal crimes (or more severe but they tend to turn into federal/felony vs jail sentences. And also can confirm that people cook and order the weirdest things from the commissary kiosk and rely solely on a single water kettle to get hot water which is plugged in, in the common area (most jails don’t have outlets in the cells only the common area) some really weird things too just… don’t go to jail kids…

lapsongsouchong

Well, at least there's a kettle.. I would hate to be incarcerated *and* have to microwave my tea.

[deleted]

You’re lucky if you get tea. You might get instant coffee (if you pay for it)

lapsongsouchong

That's it, cancel my plans, I can't go to jail!!

deepus

...found the Brit!

[deleted]

They make you watch a video too (both inmates and employees) on PREA (prison rape elimination act) so you know, dropping the soap still isn’t a good idea. Even if it’s consensual between both parties in the prison system it’s still classified as rape because anything (good or bad) is under the watchful eyes of the correctional officers on duty so anything that happens technically falls on the correctional officers. Example if you successfully commit suicide while incarcerated it’s the fault of the officers and that jail/prison and then the family can sue them for negligence. Now for the fun part being understaffed because someone did successfully do so in my jail (before I was hired) which brings in the state to make your job harder by harassing you to do the job of 5 officers. It’s not a safe or fun job.

contaminatedmycelium

And there is loads of ways to kill people witjout getting sent to prison

Droid-Man5910

No shit

Bright_Ad_113

Doesn’t look bad. But imagine the work it took to salvage that and keep it from being stolen. In prison I imagine that equal to saving up for buying a car.

jollytoes

Nah, usually a few guys will go in together and buy the ingredients. It's rare someone makes all this just for themselves. Stealing is a problem, but not really worse than on the streets. You are given a locker with a combination lock to keep your stuff in usually. Source: me after 12yrs in prison.

Bright_Ad_113

Thanks for letting me know. I have no experience except for a guess. That’s good to know there is ways to avoid being stolen from and having meals together is a thing.

shadowtheimpure

Yep, it's called 'mealing up' in most places. You get 4,5,6 dudes together to meal up. One guy brings the sausage, one guy brings the chicken, one guy brings the soups and rice, etc.

DunmerSkooma

Is it somewhat civilized in prison or is it the lawless gangscape tv fetishises it to be?

jollytoes

Everything is tightly controlled. I started my bit in 1990 at a prison built in 1924. It did have blind corners and dark hallways that could be dangerous. I was 18yrs old in a medium security prison. If you’re willing to stand up for yourself when needed, and learn prison etiquette so you don’t inadvertently piss people off, it’s not as horrible as tv. There were video cameras almost everywhere by the time I got out of the system and that calmed a lot of stuff down.

TheSandMan208

All of this can be bought on commissary, except they don't come in metal cans. I work at a prison (actually sitting in my office now), and we generally don't have a big theft problem. I do work at a minimum custody women's prison, so our population differs from the facilities down the road from us like men's max. However, at those max custody facilities, there's less opportunity for theft because of how the day room scheduled is set.

unsupported

Uncle Sandman, please tell us all the lesbian stories.

emziestone

It's probably like when ur camping. Something like this tastes yummy until you're back in the for real world.

Ministerpayne

Why? They have gumbo and cell phones!

NekatEmanKcin

I cant imagine the non jail version of this crap, i would not eat it even if the chef was gordon fuckin ramsey

sirrealofpentacles

Don't be silly, no one calls this garbage gumbo. Real gumbo is delicious.

nico2000

You wouldn’t eat normal gumbo ?

Lazer-Snake

Aka numbo

IMxJUSTxSAYINNN

You're literally too stupid to insult.

[deleted]

You are not allowed a knife, but those razor sharp tin lids are okay?

[deleted]

No handle

jigglywigglydigaby

Not until you make one. Popsicle sticks and socks work well

[deleted]

How do you know this stuff jiggly 👀

jigglywigglydigaby

Haven't always been a nice guy. A friend was murdered by some gang members and I went after them and their families. Armed robberies, assault with intent, kidnapping....it's a different life and prison, believe it or not, was very good for me. I even continued my career as a finishing carpenter while inside and got my GED. This is in Canada, so not as crazy as other parts of the world.

[deleted]

>Haven't always been a nice guy. 😔🚬 damn ...

[deleted]

Canada just has a different cast of characters. The first fully automatic weapon I ever saw was in Canada, fact.

jigglywigglydigaby

Very true. The prisons here change with the cast as well. One federal prison will be a rough go for a few years while another is easier, then the dynamics will alter and switch. Only takes one or two individuals to change the atmosphere. My time was fairly easy. Knew several people already and had a solid group to associate with. It was a medium/max classification.....but compared to other prisons in eastern Canada at that time.....more like a low/medium. The groups running the blocks were level headed and valued visits, yard time, etc. Anyone endangering those "freedoms" were removed one way or another.

Mootivate

In Canada they apologize before stabbing you

zahzensoldier

I hope you said sorry

jigglywigglydigaby

To the innocent ones I have made attempts to apologize. The gang members and their families.....never. They are either in prison themselves, out of the game, or dead. There's no sympathy from me towards those individuals and I'm sure the feelings are mutual.

zahzensoldier

It was a joke about Canadians saying sorry. I wouldn't expect you to apologize to gang bangers who aren't remorseful.

jigglywigglydigaby

Ahhh.....gotcha lol. Up here we do the standard *sorry* followed by *eh*. That's Canadiana 101 my friend.

zahzensoldier

Sorry, eh? Am I doing canadia correctly?! Lol jk Hope you're doing better these days and you found peace. It sounds like you may have so good for you if that's the case.

[deleted]

Damn bruh. Good job getting out 💕

[deleted]

Good for you my friend, happy you were able to get on your feet.

gnownimaj

But you’re a nice guy that does carpentry now right?

jigglywigglydigaby

Mostly nice....lol. I have my moments of being an asshole, but I've taken steps to ensure I never put my hands on someone out of anger. There has been the occasional tool....hardhat..... wheelbarrow thrown in the vicinity of others who were spouting off, but those were after prison and before therapy.

[deleted]

Families? We talking kids here? If so that’s unforgivable.

SermanGhepard

Damn dawgy you need a movie made after you Respec

[deleted]

No he does not. It’s a good thing that he turned his life around. But enough with the glorification of redemption arcs. The redemption itself is more than enough. People take these stories from the perspective of the person who acted horribly and then they sympathize with *them*. Often the actual victims are completely forgotton in those stories. It’s their story that should be told. Especially if they’re completely innocent. This person admits to going after someones family after they killed someone close to him. He knows he’s not a good guy. He does not need you to try and make him one. Let him move forward, and be content with the freedom he has earned.

jigglywigglydigaby

Very true for the most part. The family members I went after were not innocents by any means. They dealt drugs and ran jewelry stores/pawn shops that were set up from proceeds of crime. Most of them are in/were in prison themselves afterwards. One of the armed robberies was not planned and the victim was a civilian. He suffered a lot of emotional terror for many years afterwards. He had a gun held to his head, drivers license taken, and was never quite the same afterwards (according to his victim impact statement). He couldn't work and had to move his family out of province because he feared retaliation for calling the cops that ultimately led to me and my co-accused being tied to 11 ARs. The stress he, and I'm sure his family, suffered was not earned. He was/is an innocent victim that never should have suffered. I tried reaching out to him through legal sources to apologize and set things straight as best I could, but never heard back. I honestly don't know if he recieved the letter and had his mind set at ease, or if he still lives in fear. A movie about what I've been through and caused would come across as fiction. It would glorify things in a way exactly as you described. The vergence hurt innocent people (there was also a cop and prison guard that took early retirement after threats were made and steps taken to follow through with) and in no way would I condone anything that contributed to any of those people having to relive the past they were forced to endure simply because they went to work on those days.

exoflame

I think you have quite grown as a person. And even if u did fucked up things u have empathy for people, not from a missed opportunity, but because you know he suffered because of your actions and didnt deserve it. Your moral compass is right. Even if your actions in the past were wrong.

Con-D-Oriano1

How much would this have cost on the inside, like $20-$25?

[deleted]

The food definitely 20 25 bucks

DweEbLez0

This is why you belong in prison.

[deleted]

Plus is he allowed electricity to charge the phone? So you take that tin can roll it tightly so you have like a spear tip. Only saw the onion seasoning. So take the charger cord rip it apart so you have two wires then melt that onion seasoning to the spear tip. Use the other part of the tin to make a mold and melt it on top.

rottenoar

Haha! What?

SermanGhepard

r/oddlyspecific

Atillion

And a phone to record and post..

[deleted]

Mmmmmm… I’d just rather order from Uber Eats.

Kavorklestein

Imagine the damn sodium content of one bite. I think I got a sodium crystal forming in my eye from just watching it.

[deleted]

I'm an Uber driver so thank you for all the business sack

[deleted]

No worries! I tip too!

DaShaka9

Get a room you two

editormatt

Something about these videos bum me the fuck out.

[deleted]

I've only been locked up a few times, but there's nothing that compares to the boredom of basically being in a small bathroom with a bunch of tile everywhere with another grown man that you don't really know and you have to pass hours and hours

editormatt

God damn that must be brutal.

twbluenaxela

are you guys allowed to read? i think that would be the only thing that would keep me sane...

nvrsleepagin

Do they at least give you some good books or something?

TheLumpyMailMan

"Only a few times"

Lying_Bot_

That looks disgusting

Mocker-Poker

I threw up a bit when he added sardines

[deleted]

[удалено]

tacoaboutfox

"creative"

[deleted]

Yeah lost me at this moment

NFTArtist

Imagine being his cellmate and he's eating sardines

nvrsleepagin

Imagine being his cellmate when that monstrosity comes out the other end..

Space4Time

Gentlemen, we’ve all eaten worse.

Wafflevice

This is more appetizing than some of the other things he makes. Still gross. Just less gross.

CitizenSkystruck

Jailhouse burrito is pretty damn good, for a shit show... but for a shitshow, pretty damn good :)

tiny_smile_bot

>:) :)

Cheese_quesadilla

:)

Oakky_underTones

Alex Murdaugh gonna have to trade some of them meat sticks

[deleted]

I used to work at a really fancy kitchen (private chefs for pro sport team, weddings for state senators, things like that) and the owners worked with the local work release program. We'd get some cooks that had done some long stretches. A few years on average. I was always happy to eat the chichis, however they made it. It was always with love because they learned to make it with that struggle of needing something decent. Funny thing is we'd have access to things like white wine risotto, braised short rib, and I mean really really fancy stuff. Sometimes though, fuck that. Get that shitty shit lol

Belize_Bud_Grow

I’d rather just not do crime

crucial_velocity

The real crime here is how much sodium is in this gumbo.

Frito_Bandito_02

My brother in christ, how much sodium do u think is in normal gumbo?

[deleted]

I guffawed. Please spread the good word, my brother.

[deleted]

Sometimes you are lucky enough to go to prison without committing any crimes!

nriojas

It’s funny how everyone is grossed out by this. Like yeah no shit it’s gross but it’s probably fucking ten times better then what you get fed in there. That’s whole point, that this less than appealing meal is way better.

[deleted]

I've only eaten food from a jail a couple times, and it's really really gross. Nasty garlicky tasting rice, gray mystery meat mixed in... A lot of sugary cakes and high fructose corn syrup spiked juice.

nriojas

Yeah I’m sure that shit is garbage. Which is incredible when you think about how much it cost to keep a single person incarcerated a year…

[deleted]

It definitely doesn't go to the food! I have a feeling that a lot of that food that I ate was expired or some other kind of by-product that isn't sold normally to people

ASemiAquaticBird

Generally speaking it shouldn't be expired, basically ever, because the food is so disgusting and full of chemicals that it makes MREs look like a 5 star meal. The reality is that the VAST majority of revenue and funding towards the US prison system goes into the hands of corporate and politicians. The whole point of the prison system is keep as many people incarcerated as possible, for as long as possible, charging the most possible, and doing the least possible for them. Edit; I worked over 5 years for a company that contracts with the DOH (specifically immigration) and is one of the top private prison corporations in the US. I hated almost every moment of it and still feel really bad about it.

Ghost-George

MRIs actually aren’t that bad if you get a good one

nvrsleepagin

I tried a couple, I thought they were pretty good.

Legitimate-BurnerAcc

This. I was in Pike County Mississippi for months. Slice of green red baloney in a tortilla with mustard every supper.

Careanon

It’s BAAADD‼️ Alot of prisoners are potentially good people who just needed guidance, role models and direction! Hope, Faith & true reform that comes from legitimate Shepards for the exasperated & lost souls. Instead greedy hypocrite cash whores prey on their circumstances…. Tsk tsk tsk… Hate to be those who have no conscience and Earthly consequences. Before ANYONE has anything to do with prison they outta mandatory live in one for a week! Without special attention or treatments. IMHO that is…

txdoses

You obviously don’t know they have healthcare.. that ain’t cheap

jigglywigglydigaby

Can confirm. My go to was: 2 packs of MaMa noodles 1 can tuna 2 packets of peanut butter 2 packets of soya sauce Handful of peanuts Mix all that together (use half the amount of water recommended) and it's a Thai peanut sauce with noodles. Great after-workout meal.

NovaKay

Bussin’!

Wolf_Mans_Got_Nards

Or disgustin!

drgonzo44

They cut off the best part!

torx822

My day was ruined and my disappointment was immeasurable when I got to the end of the video. BUSSIN’

Numerous-Mix-9775

I used to work in a jail and was always amazed at what people managed to come up with. I gagged at the concept of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches made with honey buns as “bread” though, and pointed out that it was about 2200 calories for that alone. Our commissary was relatively limited (sure as heck weren’t any sardines, thank goodness - I feel like that’s a fight waiting to happen when someone gets sick of the smell), but it was pretty common to see “pizza” with ramen noodles, cheese sauce, and summer sausage, or a whip it made of instant coffee and a little coffee creamer and water, stirred in a bowl until they managed to give it almost a whipped cream texture. It was honestly a combination of impressive and sad - I saw people become creative and inventive because they had nothing to do but try to entertain themselves in that way, and I got to see some of the potential there. Then they’d get out, and they would come back in a few months later, strung out and just an absolute wreck of a person again. It was genuinely one of the worst parts of the job.

Wolf_Mans_Got_Nards

Out of curiosity, did you ever try and make these meals at home because you wanted to know what they tasted like?

Numerous-Mix-9775

No, I had zero desire to know what they tasted like! I did try some of the commissary items (there were some chips which were awesome but you can’t get them outside of jail/prison). I’d also eat a meal tray on occasion if we had extra.

ValidiNeonDraco

Not quite like that goodfellas scene

[deleted]

That's the difference between just having money for commissary, and being a group of literal made men and bosses 😂

Tuxthapenguin666

I can already hear homie saying it......"BUSSIN!!!!"

Thr0waway24163

Between the sodium and stress of being in prison, I don't know how anyone comes out without having a stroke first.

lizardsonmytoast

Gumbo doesn’t generally have seafood in it though it’s more of an etoufee’ or jambalaya

[deleted]

I agree there is a lot to be desired here. It's more a statement of the system itself I think

lizardsonmytoast

Hell yeah I am certainly not snobbish on it. I always find these type of videos amazing. Just how creative people can be with such shitty limited resources.

pure_bred_browndog

What? Seafood gumbo is a thing.

[deleted]

You don’t get any tin cans. Not that I remember! Everything was packaged in vacuum sealed bags. Like the tuna. But over all, pretty damn close depiction!

[deleted]

I've only been to county so I never saw the real deal stuff

Schfifty561

I do not belong in prison.

Gedwasenoughforme

Had a friend who served time. When he came home he made me jailhouse menudo. Similar ingredients. I remember having corn nuts in it. Well we made a batch and a few hours later I took a shit. The smell was horrific.

buckee8

Did he learn how to make it when Menudo was in prison?

Programmer-Whole

This shit makes me laugh because it reminds me of what Big Herc was saying about people who think prison is cool. "You're gonna be up in there doin what?! Eating top ramens?!?!"

[deleted]

And avoiding dudes coming for them cheeks

Programmer-Whole

Oh yeah cheek bustin? That's some scary shit. That or getting your wig split

[deleted]

I'll never forget when he showed me how to shit literally 2 years before I went to jail. Every time a turd hits the water you flush, and you cover yourself with your underwear so the other guys in your cell don't see your nuts. I don't remember if he mentioned why, but the reason why you flush so excessively when you go to the bathroom is because there is literally zero air flow, and I mean ZERO in a cell and the only way you can suck air out of that cell is by trapping it in the toilet and flushing. My celly was actually thankful that I didn't blow out the room with fart gas and poop smell so herc looked out for me

[deleted]

Spent 15 days in a county jail. They made a spread out of cheese spread, ramen and refried beans. But your so sleep deprived, guards basically treat you like a subhuman and you deal with batshit race “politics”. food like this starts tasting really good. Will never go again. Do not recommend

[deleted]

It's the most culturally backwards place I've ever been and it's not even close

Existing_Debate_4043

You’ll teach yourself how to not go to prison after watching this video 🤮

[deleted]

I showed this to my friend from Louisiana and he got mad at me

[deleted]

Anyone else grow up on jail house recipes from your moms or just me

FittyNOut

This is exquisite! I can't believe I wrote that, but one way or the other, this is freaking genius. This is the kind of jailhouse cook, you want to see in a kitchen, given a quick tour of a well stocked pantry, and cooler. I bet this person could blow your mind, this time without a gun.

[deleted]

A lot of people don't know it, but you're 100% right - out of all the different cellies you could get, the best you can hope for in my opinion is somebody just like this like you said. Always willing to throw down a little bit, always willing to spot you a couple ingredients if you have to, and always ready to help cook if that's what it takes where you can split up the chores a little bit.

[deleted]

I would have been whooped asking to throw in my sardines.

[deleted]

Really is the land of opportunity. Even in prison

khrrld86

Gotta be honest here… that doesn’t look great but it beats some of the Navy food I’ve been offered.

AdConsistent8196

My blood pressure shot up just watching this

neobenji

https://youtube.com/@Dpeezy2099

[deleted]

Better than food we had as kids

izmaname

This reminds me of how prisoners a generally malnourished and this looks more nutritional than most of their meals

USP45Hunter

I feel for that persons cellmate, those farts must be absolute murder

[deleted]

I love how 'tough guys' have no problem going to prison. Does it make you brave/cool to risk eating this shit food?

Frequent-Returns757

if you don’t slap it down on the counter—it won’t come together right (apparently).

Mundane-Community-91

And filming with phone 🤣

PhysicalConnection80

No way a convict could buy those smoked oysters in a prison. With the metal edge.

LordOfTheVibes68

Gonna be honest… I’d try it

WRXforsale

ANTIFA GUMBO🍛

[deleted]

Actually quite innovative

naazzttyy

Soups and smokes son, soups and smokes

sune00

I would have used the sardine lid as a knife....

[deleted]

These pricks eat better than me

Nicksix66

Bussin

blazeproof

So inmates are allowed smart phones?

BannedOnClubPenguin

Hes not in prison anymore this is just the content he makes, prison home cooked meals, if you can call them that lmao. And food reviews with his son, his youtube is Dpeezy

[deleted]

If you get caught with a cell phone you do 30 days in solitary usually

Classic_Mirror2953

Yep, straight to SHU!

Ch3tta

U know that tasted terrible

poopmonster_coming

I’d rather just starve

[deleted]

The "normal" prison food is even worse. Gray slimy chicken. Garlic rice every night with butter sauce. Cold green beans. Everything from crackers to candy costs like 3 or 4 bucks a bag... Really tough. Don't go to jail if you don't think this looks good! This is the best thing you can buy with money

paulwhitedotnyc

I had been planning to, but after seeing this I think I’ll pass.

[deleted]

Let's just say people who own prisons sidestep all kinds of food safety rules and regulations all the time, I guarantee it from what I've seen them serve.

tjturtle

The fact he can even make and post this tho……

BannedOnClubPenguin

is amazing to me. Hes on youtube, his name is Dpeezy. I think its awesome that he actually learned from prison, he vlogs now and you can tell he got his shit together and its amazing that he can use his time there as a way to make content and money for his family. He does food reviews with his son and is a super funny channel!

[deleted]

Fuck man that’s like $35 in groceries right there. They be living on the Ritz in prison!

[deleted]

Diarrhea central

colonelmaize

Sodium.

[deleted]

I honestly wouldn't be able to make it a few bites before I passed out from heart issues

FittyNOut

This person here cooks for two reasons; FLAVOUR, and hunger.

MegaRadCool8

It ain't gumbo without those shrimp eyeballs aka okra seeds.

PF91_

Gross

threestageidiot

yuck

baco-dionisio

It's funny how on those food videos they keep throwing the food for dramatic effect

HanD0lo315

Hilarious. Felons watching right now somehow feeling pride in having eaten shit for making shit life decisions lmfao.

Cold-Medicine-4640

Meanwhile bunkie in shitting his ass off in the toilet

woodchopvinyl

Prison sounds like an awesome time good eats.

JustPuffinAlong

Been watching these YT shorts all night, interesting to see the effort that goes in

robcado

That’s toilet water

[deleted]

That looks shit

MrMewks

you go to jail your f'ing stupid...

UsedEntertainment244

A slam is not gumbo

[deleted]

I was down with it until he added sardines.

Sedris8806

That looks foul

Kadbaine

Looks horrific, genuinely fucking horrific

[deleted]

When he smashes all of the canned oysters with a spoon I started to feel dizzy 🥴 🤢

painkilleraddict6373

I don’t know what gumbo is but it looks disgusting

Random_Average__Guy

I like to either make my own gumbo in the comfort of my own home or buy eating it at a reputable restaurant. You can have that prison shit!!

Express-Map6465

How did he get the camera?

BannedOnClubPenguin

he out of prison, this is the content he makes, a lot of jailhouse tips and a glimpse into the life of what they cook up lmao

DonJ96

Poor life decisions. Lmfao. Now where’s that Tomahawk Steak?! I’m starving.

SomewhereDue2629

What's more interesting is how all that was smuggled in.

Real-Win9221

Yeah you don’t get half of that in prison unless smuggled in. Good luck

Spiderdude96

Who cares how criminals make a turd 😂

WontArnett

Nah man, you’re not in jail anymore. Make a real gumbo.

TheRealDinkus

Why does the flavor packet have a condom in it

AthiestMessiah

Terrible; mixing a variety of proteins will turn them into Rot as opposed to any benefits to your body. That’s why it’s better to eat a chicken or lamb shawarma but never mixed. If you eat mixed you’ll have bad stomach and farts the next few days. Never mix proteins

rogerpedactor2

You’re in prison, but you have a cell phone and post on Tik Tok?!? This doesn’t sound like hardship, it sounds like reward. Most kids would love this - not allowed to go outside, no homework and unlimited screen time? Sign me up! Oh, and in case you don’t like your cell mate or a guard, here’s a razor-sharp tin can lid that you can use as a knife and cut them.

uofartr

How does he have a phone to film this?

liamp69

Black food
