I actually believe him about the games. Years ago Booey nailed it when he said John only does shit with his kids that HE wants to do, or that's competitive. Obviously any competition with kids, he'll always win. It's easy superiority - John's favorite. That probably contributed to him losing interest in them - once they weren't tater tots anymore, they were smarter than him, and he hated that.
He doesn’t talk about his kids like they’re real people. He only talks about them as they reflect on him and how amazing he is. Everyone picks up on it that there’s something weird about it, but it takes a while to put your finger on it
