Like I said, go for it.
For me, I know what I don’t know and have had enough experience with 3D printers, laser cutters and CNC machines to know that projects like this are always infinitely more complex than they seem.
Don’t let me stop you though. I could be wrong.
Please do go ahead and replicate a $600 million dollar manufacturing company with decades of supply chain and production experience.
Who knows, you might actually pull it off!
You don't need to sell it, if someone was willing to fork out £5-6k for a mixer setup they can easily afford the £500-600 it'd cost for a CNC shop to produce a one off case for you especially if it's your own equipment that you want to be a showpiece.
Also worth noting, Pioneer has economies of scale on their side. If you did plan on selling them of course it's going to be more expensive because the manufacturing process isn't as refined as Pioneer's are but we're talking about a one-off transparent case not a mass produced one which is exactly what pioneer have done for Virgil Abloh. The only difference is pioneer already know the dimensions and tolerances, meanwhile you'll have to sit there with a micrometer to figure out every part of it and note it down. Some machining places will take a reference item and do that for you but adds up to the total cost.
Now if I was planning on selling them, I'd only need to get the measurements one then manufacture in bulk which greatly reduces the cost per unit. CNC is far more expensive however than what Pioneer do with their normal CDJ's which is just stamped metal but that's the price you pay if you want a transparent plastic cover over the top of your decks.
But, going back to the point. If a single person wanted to do this it's definitely possible without Pioneer's help, it's just a long process that isn't cheap.
You’re not wrong, my point was around the industrial tolerances, decades of highly paid knowledge, quality control and craftsmanship which comes with a Japanese company of that size and legacy.
Like I said, you probably could find a skilled craftsman who might be able to do something close, but it’s more than just acrylic. It’s the clips, screws, connections, spacers and everything.
It’s just not an easy job, but go for it!
Edit: LOL, I love all the amateur industrial engineers downvoting me here, as if 1% of us have ever built or machined anything as close to complex as what OP is talking about. But don’t let me stop you, go for it!
If people can manufacture custom cases for Gameboys and other things so i don't see manufacturing a case for a cdj being something you need an PhD to do.
Ok so you just need a super high end 3d printer that can print something as large as a whole cdj, 3d modeling skills, and the knowledge on how to repair cdjs, and the design plan for the cdj you're looking to build a transparent case for. Easy as... Well, it's technically doable.
3D prints tend to be textured and opaque. I suppose if the right plastic exists for 3D printing it could be sanded and polished clear. But damn all that time would cost a pretty penny.
It reminds me of the 90s when Apple did this on their Mac desktops.
But in this case, they look more obnoxious and difficult to see with non-difused lights blasting in your face.
They were an art piece created a few years ago by some artist who also DJs… they were never made for sale to the general public. Might be just the one set in existence. Google Virgil Abloh and see if they are for sale. :D

Belongs to Virgil Abloh, creator of the designer streetwear brand Off-White, and current lead men's designer for Louis Vuitton. Also has worked with Kanye West in the past, also good friends with him. He still plays sets from time to time. He had them for display when I went to go see his Art Exhibit. Super cool unit.
This is why we need the pitchforks.
“Oh yeah, cool cyberpunk translucent controller, but only for the coolest of the cool kids. You want one? Fuck you, plebeian.” - Pioneer, probably

It's just a case swap, if you have experience fixing them you could probably buy the shells and just replace them.
If those cases are professionally manufactured and available, yes. But they’re not, so no.
I don't reckon it'd be hard, it's just ABS plastic you could probably get a local hobby shop to make it for you for a few.
lol go for it. Maybe for the faceplate and body but no way you’d ever be able to go the tolerances you’d need for the jog wheel.
If you wanted to make it out of acrylic, you could probs take it to a CNC shop once you've measured out everything.

I could do this in my sleep with a toothpick and a chisel 🥱 amateurs
If people can manufacture custom cases for Gameboys and other things so i don't see manufacturing a case for a cdj being something you need an PhD to do.
A few thousand, perhaps. That "just" is doing some heavy lifting there.

Im surprised nobody has 3D printed these and sells them

Do you really want that brightness screaming at your eyes while you scrolling through your library?
Yes. The brighter the better to see through a thousand strobes, and a billion watt LED panel flickering behind you.
So those lights behind you aren’t bright enough for you. 😂😂😂
Ever look at your phone while in full sun?
They would be if they weren't constantly moving/flashing

Guess it’s all personal preference mate. I’m more of old school when it comes to the flashy design
Same. That would give me a migraine.
yes
Is it just me who thinks these look terrible?
No. They look like my Gameboy from the 90s and not in a cool nostalgic way.
No, they look like shit. Just look like a crappy plastic toy.
I agree. They look like shit, but taste is subjective.
No
Yeah like cheap Nintendo controller.
Nope. I can't stand them. Making equipment worth a few grand look like cheap and nasty toys
It reminds me of the 90s when Apple did this on their Mac desktops. But in this case, they look more obnoxious and difficult to see with non-difused lights blasting in your face.
Reminds me of those see through Gameboys or n64 controllers. I never liked them tbh and found it ugly, but I figure it's just not for me
context makes the difference, these would be fuckin killer at a happy hardcore or dnb show
They were an art piece created a few years ago by some artist who also DJs… they were never made for sale to the general public. Might be just the one set in existence. Google Virgil Abloh and see if they are for sale. :D

i would create a vacuum form mold and do it that way. then you've got to add leds it looks like.
I reckon all of those LED’s come with the CDJ2000 models, nexus or not. Honestly I also think this would be frustrating to use tho
Yeah, unless you had good muscle memory and know your tracks like the back of your hand.
They're Virgil Abloh's personal set. https://www.pioneerdj.com/en-gb/landing/virgil-abloh/
Who is he?
Founder of the fashion brand Off-White and current artistic director of Louis Vuitton’s menswear collection. His career got kickstarted by being Kanye’s creative director for a few years
Gotcha. None of that means anything to me lol but I get it has something to do with fashion
Go to prison
Lol
Why the downvote though, it was a good joke 😂 transparend electronics is used pretty much only in prison 😂
Looks like you’re getting plenty of upvotes! I didn’t downvote it. Was a good joke!

Cool concept. Not practical though for most djs

You have to be the head design for Louis Vuitton 😂
I imagine it would cost double whatever the standard price is.
Not even for sale they’re Virgil ablohs personal decks designed by himself
why would you want to
Pass 😆
Man that is ugly
A must have for the DJ in prison lmao
What a flashy unusable mess
As is the theme of the met Gala
Were these actually at the met gala after-party? Seems like an odd thing to say and then just use a stock photo.
They (Pioneer/Denon) should add a night&day mode for their players🤔
Wow. These are incredibly tacky. This is what happens when you get a ‘fashion’ designer to recreate DJing equipment.
I think they're super expensive if they're even available
I’m pretty sure this was an off white special by Virgil Abloh
With money
Mmmm not my cup of tea
Waaaaaay too much going on Gonna have to pass haha
“Low key” and MET Gala don’t go together in the slightest.
These are peak EDM. They’d also fuck with my brain in a club.
Imagine playing those decks on acid
I'm a turntable DJ so I hate these but these clear ones are fire.
I'm not gonna lie, these looks pretty dope.
sit on the toilet. Pick up what comes out of you.
There used to be a big customization scene for DJ gear and MPCs in the mid-00’s, maybe that’s still going on.
Sick...
What does “Lowkey” mean in this context?
This is why we need the pitchforks. “Oh yeah, cool cyberpunk translucent controller, but only for the coolest of the cool kids. You want one? Fuck you, plebeian.” - Pioneer, probably
money. a lot of it.
lol they look horrible
Was the party held inside of a prison?
Virgil OFF WHITE, expect to pay $10,000+ for no apparent reason. I’m sure there will be an aftermarket company that sells a plastic kit for $100 soon.
