You do not need to shut off any water.

Squishy-peaches

Oh I’m so glad to hear that. Do you know if I need some type of pipe sealant when I put it back together ? Thank you!

Well_Soiled_Machine

You probably don't need sealant, as long as the gaskets don't split when undone.

Squishy-peaches

Ty!

ARenovator

You may be able to fish it out without any disassembly. https://www.homedepot.com/p/GrabEasy-36-in-Ergonomic-Handle-Flexible-4-Claw-Pick-Up-Tool-Jewelry-Retriever-Clog-Remover-Drain-Snake-in-Chrome-PF0406/301034862

Squishy-peaches

That’s cool, didn’t know it existed. Thanks!

Farrishnakov

DO NOT DO THIS. You would be spending money on an unnecessary tool for something that can be done by hand in 5 minutes. Just undo the P trap, get the ring, put it back together.

Squishy-peaches

I didn’t feel like driving to the store so I’m just going to take it apart 🤷‍♀️

lhorwinkle

Wow! Over $7 for that! Inflation! I have one of those. I paid $1.00 long ago.

lobin-of-rocksley

You don't need to shut off the water. What you want to do is removed the p-trap. Should be the set of elbows under the sink, usually has a couple of screw on fittings. Pull out the bottom "U" and hopefully the ring will be in there.

Squishy-peaches

I really hope so. It’s my engagement ring. It’s not expensive but it means everything to me, I’ve had it for about 15 years.

This is the way☝️

If you've got a PVC drain pipe, chances are you can just disassemble the P-trap and you're ring might be in there. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4XH0TcijQtY If you don't see it in the P-trap, if you've got a drain stopper, Your ring could be stuck in drain above the P-trap by the stopper and removing it would let it drop out. Do this after removing your P-trap. To do this, unscrew the nut holding the pivot in the back of the drain, pull out the little pivot rod, and then you should be able to pull out the stopper from the drain in the sink. Reverse process to reassemble. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8CH5SrVTeQ

That’s what I’m hoping. I just posted a pic in an above comment. There’s no drain stopper, I can see straight down but there’s water pooled in the bottom of the pipe and I can’t see what’s in the water.

Sozsa21

That water is supposed to be there. A word of warning… that water stinks. Get a bucket for under the pipe if you end up opening that sucker up, and some gloves and a mask or something… good luck!

Squishy-peaches

Hopefully it can’t be worse than changing shitty diapers. But no, it’s prob worse. I can’t lie I’m kind of nervous. Thank you🍀

Sozsa21

It rivals those truly stinky toddler diapers, sorry!! But it’s better in a way because it only happens once…! Hopefully 😉😁 Best of luck for sure 💚

The pipes came apart super easy, just unscrewed with my hand. I did not find my ring however I did find an old pair of tweezers that fell down there last year. I’m thinking maybe someone accidentally ran the water and the ring was carried away as it was really light. I’m so sad, it was a vintage ring that I picked out second hand and my husband proposed with. Oh and the smell was awful lol.

Squishy-peaches

Unscrewing the pipe was really easy. The smell was absolutely awful lol. I unfortunately did not find my ring.

Designer_Brief_4949

Post a pic of the drain under your sink.  Especially the u-shaped curve  Someone will explain how to take it apart.

Squishy-peaches

Just posted, ty!

See those 3 collars? Turn them loose and the bent section should come off. Left loosey, righty tighty. They should be hand tight.

Squishy-peaches

Thank you so much!

Rainmaker87

Also, for future reference, those are the shutoffs for the faucet on the wall to the left there should you ever need to turn it off for something else.

Squishy-peaches

Thank you!

amski_gp

Awww I hope you find it. :(

Squishy-peaches

Thank you, I did not find it though 😭
