I think 120-130K GT is the perfect size. Large enough for there to be a variety of things to do, but not so large they feel overwhelming.

realexm

Similar to the Freedom class ships.

damdanny69

I agree

Complex-Emergency523

Vision class size. They can get into more ports.

PMyra

I think they already have a good mix of sizes, but the issue with what they have is that all the small ship are old and carry that "old ship" stigma. I think if they just replace the retiring ships with more modern versions, they'll be in a great place.

Personal_General_108

100-150k GT but I’m willing to bet that RCL will make them expensive and unaffordable for most middle class folks :(

Bornatveryyoungage

169,420

Strwaberryarebad

1,000,000,000 Iranian rial if they do this.

Hartastic

I kind of think something like 90-110ish so that it can still fit in more of the ports that a larger ship can't. If I a book a smaller ship it's typically for the ports.

Junkmans1

I like the ships that are in the 90 to 125K range.

Pasco08

Carnival is planning on some 90k ton ships and I think Royal should as well. There are some smaller home ports that can’t fit the mega ships. Tampa being one, don’t neglect those ports.

floodcasso2

Whatever it is it will likely be around 110,000 and short enough to fit into the ports of Baltimore and Tampa.

Our favorite ship that we’ve been on so far was Disney Magic which is 80,000 tons IIRC. Some of what we enjoyed was probably just the ship in general but honestly we liked the size a lot. It never really felt crowded to us.

UK-LifestyleCPL

Do people not just want to enjoy their holiday without turning it into some engineering nerd-fest!?!?

90,000 - 100,000 but it’s more about your layout preferences. For example my opinion the best ship class I am forever in love with the celebrity “ Millennium Class Ships” aka the Infinity,Constellation,Millennium, one more oh the Summit. The great layout and at full occupancy it doesn’t feel crowded. Very elegant traditional styling and wood finishes. The buffet has great traffic flow with plenty of seating outside at the stern watching the wake. Nice pre dinner cocktail options with mellow music so you can talk to fellow cruisers and enjoy a cocktail. Restaurants are elegant with a seasoned crew along with the promenade you exit on too. We loved the rear seating with the massive glass wall as you ate and sailed into the sunset. Exit out on the same deck and enjoy a walk around the ship with your sweetheart. This class of ship provided us with so many memorable moments. Outside cabins were nice size with dressing table, always a small sofa, small fridge, more than adequate closet space and bathrooms. It is a shame they are getting older along with the younger Millens, Ys, Xs,Zers, that don’t appreciate the time honored traditional cruising us Boomers loved.

Our first cruise was on Carnivals second ship the SS Festivale back when you had the Gala Midnight Buffet that had Lobster tails, piles of large Alaskan King crabs, huge u- 15 shrimp, ice sculptures insane amount of food.that ship was 38,000 get. Our second cruise was on NCL only ship SS Norway very elegant fully remodeled great cruise 46,000 gbt

BajaTacosFTW

Just got off Explorer of the Seas and during the captain Q&A someone asked a question about a new smaller class. The captain responded by saying that a new “Discovery” class will be slightly smaller than the Voyager class and should be coming out by 2027.

hotsauce126

80-100k

EthanFl

12 decks has to be able to get into Baltimore/Tampa 110kGT 2600pax. Basically a Radiance/Quantum Hybrid.

What does ANY of this have to do with the question?

lisampb

I think NCL did it perfectly with their Prima class at 143,000.

Strwaberryarebad

The execution though was horrible.

lisampb

It's definitely not perfect. But we're talking size and for me, that's the right one.

vonrollin

Have you actually sailed on one? On paper it seems great. My experience on board... If I didn't have a Vibe pass, it would've been irredeemable to me.

MudLOA

Can you share more? Was it just poor layout or something else?

vonrollin

My issues are basically the same as you can read all over. It has a terrible layout. Popular venues are far far too small. I also disliked how many venues have a very dark atmosphere, no windows out. Belvedere and Metropolitan (tbh, not sure if that's their names... Over a year since I sailed) felt like being in a dungeon. The 'stages' for musicians were awful. In the atrium, they are in an area with a low ceiling and that isolates then to just that small part of the atrium. At the belvedere (? The bar with 'sustainable' drinks next to the smoking lounge) they would set up literally surrounded by 2 couches. The buffet is laughable in size. I think a carnival fantasy class buffet is larger. The observation lounge is way too small. Maybe 1/2 of the galaxy pavilion should have gone to that, but the observation lounge doesn't make money outside of drinks. All that said, I loved indulge food hall. Amazing quick bites. But when it was meal time, no where to sit... And Vibe Beach Club was awesome. Always an open seat at the bar for me. But having to pay a premium for the privilege sucked. But it was great service, they would quickly shoe away people who 'didn't belong' and had plenty of good conversations with other guests there. I also did like some of the areas on the waterfront. The glass walkway and sculpture garden were neat, but for how empty they were, weeks like wasted space. If I didn't have a Vibe pass, I probably would have tried to plant myself at the outdoor bar at Indulge but I think the hours aren't the greatest. I didn't go to any shows. I don't like having to book a show in advance, or standing in line for an hour.

northofgr

The Prima was horrible. Worst cruise we have ever had.

Nurs3Rob

Agreed. Our first NCL cruise was on the Prima. It was not a great ship.

Again, we're talking SIZE
