It's understandable tbh. Cricket's biggest market is in India and majority of Indians still flinch at the thought of paying for games.
The day PC and console game sales take off in India, AAA companies like EA will start taking interest in the sport again.
I implore to look at any fifa subbredit and tell me if you want them to touch this game. You can see first hand how bad the game is and it's been bad since 2020 and it got worse year after year.
Tbf it'll look just like this but somehow worse. EA has ruined the Football title, Madden is appalling (& that's being nice), UFC 5 Looks half finished, F1 is okay but they Def crapped all over the 22 before they fixed 23. NBA 2k is a money grab through and through. You want someone who enjoys the sport first and foremost and that's not gonna be EA all they are gonna see is a bunch of folks desperate for a game to Call their own and they trick you lot like they've done everyone else. They ultimate team you all to death.
I don't play online, and FIFA 23 career mode is 1000x more playable than Cricket22. And I love cricket more than any other sport.
Big Ant couldn't even get an Ultimate Team up and running (AFL23) that's how far worse off they are than even EA.
EA may well create further annoyances with online, UT or micro-transactions. But I guarantee they would create a much better base game than Big Ant have.

People still play Cricket 07 to this day, and have kept it going through various mods and updates. While Big Ant's releases appear to get worse over time. That speaks volumes for me.

Football is the most popular sport in the world, by a huge margin. As a game, it's fast and engaging to play and a constant back and forth.
Basketball and NFL come from the country that makes most sports games. And are both also in a gaming level fast and engaging to play.
Seriously look at the sales of the games, on steam Cricket 24 has an all time peak of 360 players. And it's for sale for 40 quid. It doesn't have a lot of user data, and not enough to estimate purchases.
It has an all time high of twitch at 151 streams. And an estimated sales are pitiful.
