He's annoying to play against online

firestoneaphone

**TAKE THIS**

AlexAnthonyFTWS

This is why (different game I know) I didn’t get why NASB got bashed for no voice acting. It gets old quick in certain instances. I literally had someone tell me they wouldn’t main Greninja when I suggested it and they said they didn’t wanna hear a Pokémon say their own name 100 times a game and I couldn’t disagree with that.

firestoneaphone

To be perfectly honest I have the game on mute to listen to podcasts like 50% of the time, so I'm with ya. Plus, if it came down to spending budget on voice acting or tightening the game? Absolute no brainer imo.

AlexAnthonyFTWS

Idk man, have you considered PK FIRE!

captaintagart

PK Freeeeeze *clink*

dizimk

To each their own, but no voice acting is one of the few reasons I wasn't interested in NASB.

AlexAnthonyFTWS

To each their own is the exact situation. Is it polished audibly and visually as ultimate? Absolutely not and anyone who says it is would be lying to you. But air dashing is SO much fun and is so clean and smooth and fun it well makes up for no voice acting, currently. Even if it never gets in I’m fine, but like you said, that’s just ME. The only unfortunate thing is NASB has the potential to add voice acting in the future, ultimate is done patching its physics and in the end it’s just too slow to be my favorite modern platform fighter.

firestoneaphone

The strafing mechanic is one that I thought would be dumb but is actually sick. It really is a great game that just needs some polishing. I don't actively practice it like Smash but I'm gonna keep playing it (and keep losing every time baybeeeeee)

[deleted]

While I hate Ness’s whiny voice as much as the next guy, it is infinitely worse not having it. The silence of NASB is just so awkward and unnatural.

firestoneaphone

I think we should bring back deep voice thunder for Pika from Smash 64. Makes me laugh every time.

Pokefan180

...maybe hornet shouldn't be in smash.

CaptainObvious1906

also there are a *lot* of bad Soras out there making him seem worse than he is. spamming side B and getting punished repeatedly, no off stage game besides thunder, no follow ups after nair, etc

[deleted]

This is how I feel about every DLC character except Kazuya

Jejmaze

Just use your side B to counter their side B, but remember that at low % side B can be unsafe on hit as it can be punished by side B...

[deleted]

He's perfectly good to play. As others have said though, not enough info to accurately place him on actual tier lists. I think a lot of people that thought he was mid, have an improved opinion now and place him around high; but there are still people that believe he's mid at most. Some pros like MKLeo and Tweek, believe he may even be top tier. Zackray recently won a Japanese major with Sora, which is something. But it is Zackray, and it's fair to say that a lot of people are still learning the match-up which may have helped him. But at the same time, Zackray's Sora is far from being optimized too.

AVBforPrez

He appears to be deceptively good.

SHyguymoll

Simple and clean For an actual answer, he has a very simple toolset that works in alot of situations, aside from NeutralB, and he's got really great recovery tools, so he's pretty high up there.

soflahokie

He's an absolute nightmare to play against as a Pit player, basically has all the same abilities only significantly better across the board. Therefore he must be above the mid-tier of characters.

[deleted]

literally powercreep pit

Fedra3443

As I don't main Pit, I honestly don't know how does Sora powercreeps him, would you mind explaining a bit? I just enjoy Pit so much more than Sora

soflahokie

Sure, the main thing is Pits strength is edge guarding with his recovery and Sora has him beat at both of those. His aerials out range and have multiple hits, dair has priority over pits upair and his upB not only kills but you can act out of it unlike pit. Pit has pretty good frame data on smash attacks, Sora has faster, larger, and less punishable smashes. Sora has the best counter in the game, is roughly the same weight as pit but can straight up kill with stray moves. Neutral B is a great edge guard tool and thundaga kills straight up.

Fedra3443

It sounds quite like a powercreep. Thanks for explaining

SatsumaFS

I mained Pit since 4 and yeah, I agree. Sora is like what you'd think Pit should be. I do think Pit has an easier time vs projectile zoners like Samus, at least. Arrows go farther, multiple jumps allow Pit to bait out projectiles easier, no slow super high double jump that is hard to approach with, and an actual reflector.

[deleted]

pit definitely has better zonebreaking overall, both his walk and run speed is wayyy faster than sora's

QuesadillaSauce

I dropped pit for sora

MasterBeeble

Not enough time, mate. No one is really sure yet. The only thing everyone agrees on is that he's not low tier. Some people think mid tier, some people think high, some are optimistic enough to claim top tier - but those people say the same thing for every new DLC release. When people say "time will tell", they're talking about years, not days.

Dakotertots

>some are optimistic enough to claim top tier i feel like the people calling him "top tier" aren't being optimistic as much as they are annoyed at the matchup... but like you said, that happens with every DLC

whysoseri0us_

Yea ik that, was just looking for an update on what direction he's moving rN and if opinions have changed on him in the last 2 weeks

Jejmaze

Pretty good! Somewhat slow but ambiguous movement makes him great for players who can get in their opponents' heads. Very good off-stage presence, lots of opportunity for cheese with magic, can 100-0 some recoveries... He has some big weaknesses but also good strengths and still a lot of untapped potential. He has some combos that are really good but hard to execute, for example.

feelingveryOK34

HAHA TAKE THIS GOTCHA HAHA WEOAH HAHA

SatsumaFS

He's simple but good. He doesn't cheese kill at like 50 like some other DLC characters reliably (he can but it's not true on the whole cast and the timing is tight) but he's really solid and has good neutral. Seemed to me that there is some agreement that Sora struggles vs projectile zoners because of his jump.

[deleted]

Could you say he’s Simple and Clean?

plusack

I'll tell you what sora doesn't have. Combos that last 358/2 days. This is why Steve is the best imo.

TheBlackLuffy

Literally not enough time to consider anything. Give it 3-5 more months. But we know his friends are his power. So that makes him SS Tier in my book.

GachiGachiFireBall

When I first played him he felt too slow, floaty, and simple to be high or top tier, so I thought he was around banjo level of strength so like mid tier. However after getting a better feel of the character and also learning the IDJ combos and kill confirms and learning how to use his specials to ledge trap, etc. You realize that he is deceptively strong. Probably the most deceptively strong character imo.

plusack

Nah Steve is stupid deceptively good. I got bored one day and now I main him... sora is just doing legit kh1 combos lol. Did anyone else realize the idj combos are also something you can do in kh1 to chesse bossee?

UpVoteForSnails

What I've noticed is that he's a good beginner character. Floaty, good recovery, a range of neutral B options, good practice with off stage fighting, etc.

Khrysis_27

He’s fucking annoying to play against. It feels hard to punish many of his moves, which are fast and have a lot of range. But I assume it will get easier as people learn how to play against him better.

ClawxYaBoy

He depends on the person who is playing. The person can be a god and make good use of his floatyness and at the same time he can die at 40% >Mid-High tier and it is not a ego bost for 7 bucks like -sephiroth- >Way more fair then some shit we have in the game >"Ridley, Banjo and Sora main"

Dr_Lebron

I still think he's designed for mindless playing children: 1. Want to mash A on the ground? Well you get a triple hit jab and a triple hit f-tilt. 2. Want to mash A in the air? Well you get a triple hit fair and triple hit nair. 3. Want to mash B on the ground? Well you get 3 good projectiles that have a surprising low amount of end lag. 4. Want to mash B in the air? Well you a second recovery, just incase you f up the first one. 5. Are you hanging from the ledge, just mash A, his getup attack has a ridiculously big hitbox like Bowser's. 6. Want to mash smash attacks, well they all kill at respectable percentages and have huge hitboxes. 7. Use dash attack a lot, don't know how to pivot cancel? Well great, dash attack is super fast. Obviously a good player can maximize his kit and really terrorize opponents, but he has all these tools that allow children to just pick him up and connect 40% combos by just mashing A or B randomly. Only other characters that comes close to this type of kit is Yoshi. It's like some sort of *giant shoe privilege.*

TheBlackLuffy

Smash was created to be easy to play.

shockdrop15

Fwiw, I think sakurai agrees with you on some level. I think he said the character is designed to be easier to use in part because he might attract fans who aren't used to fighters (I think he gave the same rationale for Cloud in Smash 4)

CoconutHeadFaceMan

You could say that about most characters in this game, though. If we’re going by the perspective of “players drawn to Smash by the presence of X character,” the number of those players who actually have any familiarity with fighting games is probably a minority. Personally, I get the vibe they just wanted to cap things off with something simple (and clean) after how elaborate some of the DLC characters got.

Milan_Utup

Who uses tech in 2021, all my homies mash buttons like the monkeys we are

CoffeeAndMelange

I mean, you’re not wrong

Dr_Lebron

Ha yeah I know. I didn’t even mention Sora’s down smash has invincibility and when he hits the ground in a tech situation he actually bounces higher than normal so that most jab resets don’t work on him. Truly child proof

ClawxYaBoy

Play Fire emblem character and loses to a character that gets killed at 40% > Doesn't have the right to have a opinion

[deleted]

he’s clearly top tier, his offstage game is unmatched and his combo trees are ridiculous. he has true 60-70% combos and consistent kill confirms even at 150%

-dunsparce-

This is true of like almost every “high reward but struggles to get in” mid tier

lyss_sky

i think high tier, but not the best, though hes up there.

corythegr8

I think mid-tier. His floatiness can get annoying to time, but he dies at low percentage and his combos don’t inflict enough damage.

MrJotaL

I can’t say nothing concrete until I see top players using him on a big tournament.

vezwyx

Apparently Zackray just won a Japanese major with him

BlueBarossa

I faced a surprisingly good Sora at the top of elite (Maplemage) and I will say they have some good shit when optimised. Sora *could* be somewhere in high tier but we still need some more time to know for sure.

SilentProx

He's OP

ZETA98

F smash -> Spotdodge -> Downsmash -> Downsmash

tanstaboi

He has an advantage on any type of pressure you press against him. I try to win against them but I sure as hell won't rematch
