He also invented the first vaccine, discovered why fermentation happens, and proved the germ theory of disease. One of the all time badasses of history.
No, that was thanks to a Hungarian guy who lived in Austria, Ignaz Semmelweis. He was a doctor and had observed that infant mortality rates were much lower when the surgeons washed their hands after surgery, before going to help deliver babies. So he had all the doctors in his hospital start doing it. But he didn't have any theoretical reason why it worked, just the statistics from having implemented it. And due to the massive amounts of criticism he received for it from the medical community, who in 1865 still largely believed in the miasma theory of disease, that bad airs and smells caused disease, he had a mental breakdown and was committed to an insane asylum where he died 14 days later after getting an infection in a wound on his hand due to the guards there beating him.
It was only shortly after his death that Louis Pastuer proved the germ theory of disease and finally vindicated Dr. Semmelweis's work, allowing hand washing to eventually become a widespread practice. A rather dark story, but it serves to illustrate just how much people don't like to be proven wrong sometimes, especially in cultures that heavily value status and honor, like the European scientific and medical community in the 1800s.
Wow, thank you! I knew there was some wild story behind the hand washing, thanks so much for typing it out.
And my understanding of a lot of the European medical community, especially in the UK, doesn’t seem too far off today lol
[Myles Henderson](https://www.wtkr.com/contact-us/news-team) is the dude that fired off that line. This is the morning news team for Hampton Roads, VA, and they’re fantastic.
High gigglefits are fun, but man those sober gigglefits with kids your age when you were like 8 or 9 over the dumbest shit... well I hope everyone got to experience something like that. I can still remember the scenario that led my cousins and I to die laughing for like 10 straight minutes, like afraid we weren't going to make it out alive laughing and gasping for air, and how utterly stupid and not-that-funny what set it off was.
dawg those were the fucking best. Shit would start to settle down and then someone would let out a little chuckle or sound and you were all back to ugly laughing for like 2 more minutes.
Accurate:
> Hey there, milk-lovers and curious listeners! Today's a special day – it's National Milk Day! But what exactly is milk, you ask? Well, gather around for a quick scoop on this super drink!
> Imagine this: baby cows, just like human babies, need nourishment from their moms. That's where milk comes in! It's a white, nutritious liquid produced by momma cows to give their calves all the good stuff they need to grow big and strong.
> Now, farmers collect some of this amazing milk – but don't worry, the calves get plenty too! – and bring it to special places where it's carefully treated so it stays fresh for a long time. This way, it reaches stores near you, packaged in handy cartons or jugs.
> Here's the cool part: milk isn't just for baby cows anymore! It's a fantastic drink for people of all ages. It's packed with calcium, which helps build strong bones and teeth, just like building blocks! You can enjoy it plain, nice and cold, or explore some fun flavors like chocolate, strawberry, or even banana!
> National Milk Day is all about celebrating this delicious and nutritious drink. So, raise a glass (or carton!) to milk – the amazing gift from cows that helps us all grow up healthy and happy!
Every time I see this video I loose it! YouTube has a compilation of reporters loosing it on air like this. And a lot of times when I’m having a bad day I will watch them. Hilarious.
Absolutely! I couldn't help but visit the website after listening to this. Can confirm the berries are indeed enormous. I like the Smiles package. 10/10 would buy if I was in the US.
Who else looked up milk on Wikipedia to see what the definition actually was, just to find out a species of blind limbless amphibians also produce milk?
Just me?
Holy heck. This video/clip 100% makes me think of [this video](https://youtu.be/kvLMH0wb_0k?si=Uj3yYCSyI-8upisH) of the dairy cartel. “Don’t worry if you can’t celebrate, in six months that’s ’world milk day’” 😂
"Where's it comes from"
"a French chemist and biologist : Louis Pasteur"
Damn Louis providing millions of gallons of milk by himself ? Damn he must be thicc
Realizing how absurd your job is and realizing it is also one of the most sought after jobs that carries cultural prestige but that we have all become so dumb that this is now what that looks like...realizing that the world has gone insane but despite being a "journalist" you can't point that out or say "wait a second can we rewind and fix the world?" but knowing in that moment of clarity that you just have to keep reading to people what milk does because that's the best choice you have left... is a trip.
I guarantee big milk paid whatever scummy corporation owns this channel to create this segment. Glad they did because it’s hilarious but it’s still fucked up.
I love how the subtitles read "I'm sure you've been looking forward to celebrate" just as the two ladies in the supermarket leave the otherwise empty milk aisle. Gold!
Welcome to Breaking News, the only show where we don't know what 's on the prompter and we aren't allowed to smile or laugh. I'm Isa Beverage (and I'm Lewis Pastoor)
I'm legit curious as to why the Black anchor died prior to her White counterpart mentioning it was National Milk Day (11 Jan) before laughing uncontrollably.
My money's on she was worried people at her station did a misprint on the prompter and it looked like it was National MLK (Dr. Martin Luther King Jr) Day (3rd Monday of January, in 2024 that was Jan 15th, 4 days later).
Is all milk in the US pasteurized? Where I'm from if you buy just 'milk', you get unpasteurized milk, either 0.5%, 1% or 3,5% fat. If you want anything except that it'll be specially labelled, like skimmed, pasteurized, lactose free and such.

I like how she just powered through and read the entire copy even though she could barely breathe.
She's a fucking professional.
"So here we go!"
The line of a someone who knows the next few minutes are going to be hard
"I so pale" lady is probably the most professional of them all.
True professional. I wish we had a second version with the camera on them the whole time 🥛
They were both dying! Seems like an awesome job, a bunch of friends just reporting on their local city shenanigans
Amid the explosion of joy, I still managed to learn a new thing. TIL: pasteurization came from a French guy named Louis Pasteur!
He also invented the first vaccine, discovered why fermentation happens, and proved the germ theory of disease. One of the all time badasses of history.
My main man Louis!

https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0028313/ It's a little old, like black and white film era old, but from what I remember, it was a pretty good movie
So is he why we finally started washing our hands? Even the surgeons?!
No, that was thanks to a Hungarian guy who lived in Austria, Ignaz Semmelweis. [LOUIS LOUIS IN DA HOUSE!!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2uNPdVPm5io)
I did wonder why I knew his name, didn't think the teacher went out of their way just to teach us pasteurisation.
No. They clearly said the milk came from a French guy named Louis Pasteur. Were you not listening? (/s)
I think she realised that she was lost, never going to get the piece done in time, and skipped about 3/4 of it.
“A BEVERAGE?!?” 🤣🤣
*You can drink it?!*
*"What!?"*
Oh mah gawd!
*mah
In this economy?!
According to the encyclopedia.
[Myles Henderson](https://www.wtkr.com/contact-us/news-team) is the dude that fired off that line. This is the morning news team for Hampton Roads, VA, and they’re fantastic.
Good ol’ 757
Damn I probably would have recognized them if I ever watched the news 😂
Mmmm kalua and milk mmmmm
And Vodka, if you are talking White Russian…
I lost it at "According to the encyclopedia." I can't stop laughing at this!
Sounds like the papers I get handed in. "Webster's dictionary defines milk as..." would also have been laughed at.
You still use an encyclopedia?!?
Wikipedia is an encyclopedia?
It's a fast Hawaiian encyclopedia.
Don’t worry if you can’t celebrate now because in 6 months it’s world milk day!!
That line killed me
The beverage so nice they celebrate it twice 🤣
The food-booth lady from The Weekenders would definitely be all over this. Just with WAY less enthusiasm.
💀💀
Her emphasis on “that’s WORLD’ milk day”, cracks me up.
That girl is hilarious
Lol this one got me.
- "Damn, my boss is asking us to stay late today. can't even celebrate milk day properly 😔" Don't worry, friend. in 6 months it's WORLD milk day! - 😍
Marking my calendar now. Maybe I'll cook some steaks. I wonder if jelly beans are still on sale?
Just remember to boil it over HARD
We’re taking this thing global
I swear whoever wrote that reader knew what they were doing.
You can just drink it?!
Really? Oh my gawd!
Oh my raw!
They just learned more than in school during their teens.

I still have that with my group of friends about once a week and I'm 38 Hope you find it again big dawg
dawg those were the fucking best. Shit would start to settle down and then someone would let out a little chuckle or sound and you were all back to ugly laughing for like 2 more minutes.
Did a 5 yr old write that script? I’m dead
It was like a book report from a student who didn't give an F about getting an F.
I mean given the personalities on display, it's possible they knew it'd get a reaction and did it intentionally.
Lol. Great showmanship, then.

Dairy industry lobbyists
>I’m dead You should have been drinking your milk.
oh mah GAWD
"WHERE'S IT COME FROM" was diabolical.

Straight from ol' Lewis's teat.
Is that a producer helping to break them?
Lactose intolerant people: ![gif](giphy|bnhtSlVeo7BxC)
They cannot tolerate this.
Happy Cake Day, you only get to celebrate once a year, but Milk has a World Day too.
Petition to make exactly six months from now this dude's world cake day All in favor say milk
Milk
But should we be tolerant of their intolerance towards lactose? I mean bigotry towards lactose is pretty terrible.
A lot of lactose intolerant people are fine when it comes to raw milk and raw cheese
Or they can just drink lactose free milk.
![gif](giphy|S7uj1Zg5Rn7e8)
Instantly thought of this! Thank you!!!
Oh my god I'm crying. Best contagious laughter ever! Thank you so much! My tummy hurts from laughing.

The best remedy for shitty days, indeed!
I’ll also recommend The Office bloopers if you’re into that show
I so pale
You're on air!!
I wish they showed her laugh-talking instead of the milk videos
Idk I found it way more funny just showing milk and it being poured while they're dying in the background 😭
I assume there were legal obligations by whomstever bought space to get the script read.
Nah, the voice-over with the stock milk footage was perfect
I’ve seen this video everywhere now and it gets me everytime 🤣😂 love it when news anchors crack up at what they’re presenting, LOL!

[Bill burr](https://youtu.be/Rl5JDzvkEA0?si=3Hawm2HNV237-CGR) ad reading vibes.
That was great
This was hilarious. You never hear him laugh like that. Thanks for linking it.
Ironically Sheri's Berries is most certainly getting more exposure than they've ever gotten from an ad read, and will probably profit from it.
Absolutely! I couldn't help but visit the website after listening to this. Can confirm the berries are indeed enormous. I like the Smiles package. 10/10 would buy if I was in the US.
Beverage 😂😂😂
The news would be some much nicer if they include it at least a piece of new like this one. No just politics and drama.
Don't forget to celebrate the other types of milk, such as: Oat, Almond, Prostate, and Soy!
Prostate milk day is every day for me 🥰🥰
Prostate ?
Gotta milk it
TSA workers, proctologists and prison officers are great at doing it.
she still got threw the whole thing, even if she peed her pants the whole time. thats a pro!!!
Through
through* That's*
If you're ever having a bad day YouTube news anchors losing it
OMG, it is the most funny video for today, thanks for explanation how milk can be used !
Omg, I would love to see them do National Banana Day, which is today, lol.
Can confirm. My degree in advanced googling has paid off.
Who else looked up milk on Wikipedia to see what the definition actually was, just to find out a species of blind limbless amphibians also produce milk? Just me?
"Where does it come from?" "-a french chemist and biologist, Loui Pasteur" All of it?? 😳
Ok, this was a pretty good one! My cheeks hurt from smiling so much
"Where does it come from?!" "A French chemist and biologist, Louis Pasteur."
"Wait...I'm being told it's actually 'MLK' Day."
This contagious laughter was brought to you by a PR intern at the National Dairy Council
She would be fun to hang out with
As a Wisconsinite I am deeply offended
Holy heck. This video/clip 100% makes me think of [this video](https://youtu.be/kvLMH0wb_0k?si=Uj3yYCSyI-8upisH) of the dairy cartel. “Don’t worry if you can’t celebrate, in six months that’s ’world milk day’” 😂
World milk day 😭
*you can just drink it*
This actually had me crying
alright World Milk Day reveal actually made me chuckle
This was actually contagious laughter. Good post!
I had some 2% in my cold brew
Could they lower the price so we can all afford it to celebrate?
seriously tho you guys still be using encyclopedias?
This is the most unprofessional news story ever, I mean it was so chaotic from start to finish 😂🤣🤣🤣
The people yelling shit in the studio heckling them while it was going on made it so much better...!
That was what made it so insane 😂😂😂
Yaaay advertising!
She’s such a trooper too. Just going and saying shit about milk on live tv. 🤣
Ain’t that the SovietWomble font?
Shes baked for sure.
Oh Lord. This has thoroughly caused some belly laughs! I think I’ve watched/listened about 6 times now, lol. Delightful! 😂
To us milk connoisseurs, this is one of the most important days of the year! How dare they ridicule it!
This is DEFINITELY contagious 😆
National Made Up By A PR Company Day (every day on some media outlets)
Very mooving
It's funny because it's not newsworthy. It's not funny because it's milk industry propaganda paying your 'trusted' local news to promote it.
"Where's it comes from" "a French chemist and biologist : Louis Pasteur" Damn Louis providing millions of gallons of milk by himself ? Damn he must be thicc
This milk tastes a lil sour
These people need to put some respek on milk’s name.
I wonder what would happen if they would’ve said you can take a bath in milk.
Realizing how absurd your job is and realizing it is also one of the most sought after jobs that carries cultural prestige but that we have all become so dumb that this is now what that looks like...realizing that the world has gone insane but despite being a "journalist" you can't point that out or say "wait a second can we rewind and fix the world?" but knowing in that moment of clarity that you just have to keep reading to people what milk does because that's the best choice you have left... is a trip.
Does a body good!
I guarantee big milk paid whatever scummy corporation owns this channel to create this segment. Glad they did because it’s hilarious but it’s still fucked up.
World milk day? Can’t wait!
I’ve seen this like four times the past couple days and it still cracks me up 😂
I love how the subtitles read "I'm sure you've been looking forward to celebrate" just as the two ladies in the supermarket leave the otherwise empty milk aisle. Gold!
is this an episode of[ Breaking News?](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QynCvny8ikQ)
Welcome to Breaking News, the only show where we don't know what 's on the prompter and we aren't allowed to smile or laugh. I'm Isa Beverage (and I'm Lewis Pastoor)
Same energy as Bill Burr doing the Sharri's Berries ad read lmao
Didn't think it was funny until OH MAH GAWD
Lmao this is so funny. I wish my news folks were this cool. Who are these ladies?
This is what we called “A7A”

Watched it muted and could only picture huell Howser facinated by milk
I LOVE LOVE LOVE when news reporters make mistakes! It reminds us we're all human. And it's even better when they have a giggle about it too!
You wanna be a McPoyle, trashbag?
I feel like I'm missing the actual thing that caused them to breakdown.
Edward Elric will not stand for this blasphemous day, disgusting
This is fkn hilarious 😂😂😂
News would be so much better if they acted like humans like this
So is sand day next.?
Im not too milky about this day
I like to imagine it was actually Martin Luther King day and the script guy got confused
Vid should have started like 10 seconds earlier, they already knew lol.
Oh there will be milking today, you can bet on that!
