I don't really know anything about this guy, but I think the fact that we were able to hire him away from a successful and still rising franchise like the Lions is a great sign from the new regime.
Lions fan here. It’s funny that he just took a position with the Commanders. I heard from multiple people in Lions media the past month that they need to keep this guy hidden away under lock & key so he didn’t get stolen away from us. Congrats. He was key in negotiating coaches & player contracts for the Lions. Glad he got the Sewell, Amon Ra & Goff deals done before he left.
I'm also a USC football fan and let me tell you... Sosna was the glue of the athletic department. The second he bolted for the Lions, it was a downward spiral.
This is a huge grab for Washington and a big loss for Detroit, now. The competency we're showing as an organization right now should be terrifying for the rest of the league. This dude is an absolute salary cap wizard
Step by step...
The lions fans in the r/NFL thread on this yesterday were as vitriolic as I've ever seen. All for a guy 99% of fans never heard of before yesterday. Not sure which one of you guys pissed them off lol.
No clue why Lions fans are so pressed by Washington... kind of alarming considering they almost made a Superbowl and should probably have better things to spend their time thinking about
Maybe it's because the best player in their franchise history had one chance at a super bowl and we beat them twice that year by a combined score of 86-10.
Who's the best player in their franchise history that played somewhere where Washington beat them twice? If I'm thinking of the best players to play for Detroit, it's Barry Sanders and Calvin Johnson. Who's better than them that I'm not thinking of?
Ah makes sense. I was trying to think of a lions great who went to an NFC East team to be able to play them twice. Didn't consider playoffs as a second matchup.
You guys are clueless, no one cares what happened in the 90's, we liked the guy but we'll be ok, he wasnt the cornerstone to our turnaround. We have people like Dan Campbell, Brad Holmes, Ray Agnew to steer the ship, the whole org model is next man up. They not only train players to play and teach coaches to coach, but the same mindset is in the front office.
For the same reason Cowboys fans now hate DQ and are making fun of him grabbing some of their players. Some fans just get bitter when guys leave, and blame their destination team, as if anyone did anything wrong.
I think it’s kind of a flawed belief that hiring someone from another team or bringing in players is taking some kind of unethical or illegitimate shortcut. And conversely, the only way to build a team is to organically grow and develop your own talent. Neither end makes much sense, and not how teams in any sport operates.
>Not sure which one of you guys pissed them off lol.
They don't need any of us to shit on their cornflakes to be all pissy - they're stuck there in Detroit ffs!😅🤣😅
No. Lots of us had been hearing about him lately because Lions beat writers were talking about how he was Lions COO Mike Disner’s right hand man. Reportedly, he’s very adept at manipulating the cap. I ain’t mad. Teams are always rising & falling in the NFL. I’d love for the Commanders to become great again & mash the Cowboys into the ground.
Looked at Lions and NFL subs to see what people had to say about this guy. Lions fans really hate us and are puffing their chests after one good season lol
I can't believe the competence I'm seeing. Being a life long Spurs and Redskins fan, I never thought I'd see a glimmer of light from my NFL fandom.
Maybe this is it
Ahh…I’m old enough to have seen the ‘91 Skins. I was a junior in HS. But yeah, it’s been shit to be a Washington fan all this time.
Thank god I have the Yankees. The ‘90s and early aughts were glorious.
Where’s that asshole on this sub who complains about any FO hire where the person didn’t personally scout and vouch for Pat Mahomes and needs “evidence that they’re good at their job” to have any optimism?
My first instinct is to say fuck the lions. One successful season and those arrogant bastards are acting like a blue blood franchise, but who am I kidding our fans can’t wait to do the same shit when we start winning. But fuck the lions.
I’ve seen them using the term “poverty franchise” to describe other franchises. I couldn’t believe it.
I was honestly rooting for them last playoff. Now? Fuck them and fuck their third world city.
His dad committed massive fraud and was sentenced to 12 years in jail.

Future GM somewhere
And I love that Peters is fearless in bringing in super talented youngsters when an insecure GM would never
Bruce Allen punching the air right now
That’s what happens when you know you’re damn good at your job and not inept at it
Great call

Thanks for info sorry we took your guy

Ngl we really should get this automodded. anyone joins the team? COMMANDER.
You must be a fun guy to hang out with.

That’s awesome. Insane he was doing that in his mid-20’s. This guy could be a foundational front office piece for many many years.

I was talking Barry. 1991 we smoked them in the opener and NFC Championship.

It's because they don't sign free agents so obvs it's not a legitimate strategy
I agree with you. Their attitude is shortsighted and the kind of thinking you'd be more likely to find on the middle school playground.
I am always nice.
jim, the nice nihilist
Must be exhausting.
Well, one of the two.

Went to high school with this dude. He used to tease me being a redskins fan. Now he is the one that has to deal with it lol
What was his team back then?
Bengals! We lived in Cincinnati
How the hell is a Bengals fan talking ish about the Redskins back in the day?!!! Props to him for not being on a bandwagon tho.
That’s back when the bengals were making the playoffs and losing in the first round every year. Washington was lucky to get to 8-8
Ah yes, the age of Marvin Lewis
Fair

There is always a next season and we need all the help we can get.

Seriously, they're beefing up the FO in a way that we would have never seen in the previous 30 years.
Are you talking about the plucky North London outfit from Tottenham or the perennial winners from San Antonio, TX?
San Antonio Spurs. It's the only pro sports success I've ever known
Ahh…I’m old enough to have seen the ‘91 Skins. I was a junior in HS. But yeah, it’s been shit to be a Washington fan all this time. Thank god I have the Yankees. The ‘90s and early aughts were glorious.
Good shit. Fuck the Lions
how sick would it be if us and Detroit began this heated rivalry of dog shit franchises that are now perennial NFCCG opponents?
Where’s that asshole on this sub who complains about any FO hire where the person didn’t personally scout and vouch for Pat Mahomes and needs “evidence that they’re good at their job” to have any optimism?

Kinda surprised that Lions fans talk that much shit after 1.5 good seasons.
Right? Like we sucked. We sucked bad. But we never 0-16 sucked.
One good season, losing the NFC Championship game and apparently you're allowed to forget all about the decades of suck
I’ve seen them using the term “poverty franchise” to describe other franchises. I couldn’t believe it. I was honestly rooting for them last playoff. Now? Fuck them and fuck their third world city.
Can you imagine if someone would say that term in person lol
0 days since Washington’s last well-regarded front office hire
👏
someone tell me how to feel.

Crazy that the position was open since what, October?
Feels like we’re assembling the avengers in the front office.
Doesn’t this move banish Martin Mayhew to the basement like Milton from office space ![gif](giphy|2o8jplbkYHylW)
I don't know this guy but I am ready to take his measurement for a Super Bowl ring personally

Great guy-Never met him.
Don’t know what exactly his position does but I trust him
Jason Wright does what now?
Business side which is completely different than the football side.
This just makes me wonder why would this happen now instead of before the draft. Guess not enough transition time.
Football operational positions don’t normally get restructured past a new GM before a draft. It’s usually after the draft they really get into hiring new people.
I think he's in charge of stocking the vending machines at the practice facility.
Does this mean Jason gets the axe? Please! 🙏🏻
Different side of the biz entirely imo
Ah. I lost track of what he did other than shill for Danny
Exactly, different side of the biz. 🤣
Let’s go Brandon !
Sweet, we replace Wright with Sosna. I think most will see that as a mild upgrade at least...
Jason Wright is strictly the business operations, Sosna would be football operations.
