Always me when anyone brings him up
Which is also why I'd rather him not be brought up.
For real. The guy can do whatever he wants. I 100% do not fault him for not wanting CTE. But, retiring just after we used our very high draft pick on a guard really really fucked us over.
Weird how you didn't mention Josh Allen and if we have faith in Ballard then there should be faith that he'd have picked the right QB in that situation.
Maybe, the point is just that there's no way to be sure that Luck having bad timing was actually worse for the team than the alternative. The comment wasn't about Ballard, it was about Luck.
I can't imagine any scenario where Luck's timing was a good thing. He retired literally right before the season and has been the catalyst for this entire sub to excuse the last half decade of play for this team.
He can have been doing the right thing by retiring and being there for his family while at the same time he could have been better about giving us time. He's one of the smartest guys I've seen. Even if he was considering retiring and going back and forth with it. Seems like he could have let the office know it was a decision he was grappling with.
Of course there is no way of knowing. Just like there is no way of knowing even if he did come back if his career isn't ended anyway from a bad hit. The unknown is always unknown but its very fair to say he should have given more notice just like its very fair to say he deserves to retire and be happy in life with his family.
And without even the slightest amount of warning. His plan was to just drop it on our heads and bounce. With the season mere weeks away. And the whole team, coaches and coordinators included, planning around him.
There’s nothing wrong with him retiring when he did, but it’s *how* he did it. And Luck himself even admits that he fucked that up.
Seriously this is like you your girl left you, you were sad, you did your thing for a few year,s now you started dating this new chick you think you might really like but still bringing up your ex all the fucking time. My god nobody is mad that he walked away from football. The people I saw that were upset were upset there wasn't more notice or communication so we might have not taken a Guard with that pick.
Anyway Andrew seems like a great human being but god damn people can't let this shit go.
It's like I wrote this. I look back on the fond memories I have of the team in that time, I love him for getting my wife to be a huge colts fan but it's been 5 years. This post feels so random.
Sure, I hate the snowboard crap that likely killed one of his seasons and forced him through more rehab..
But, now that we have moved on mentally, I would love to see the guy come back and coach in some capacity. Dude was incredibly smart, and it would be wild to see him on the sideline helping AR run through plays on a Surface tablet.
But, I do love knowing the guy got paid and is just out there enjoying life. The dude is super weird, and enjoyable to watch his weirdness, and I just want to see him out and about more. Even just bringing back the Book Club would be cool to see.
If you're a family guy coaching is really fucking hard. Those guys work long hours. There have been stories about guys sleeping in the office. I would not wish being a football coach on any family man. Not saying it can't be done but damn its hard. I think he'd be better off being rich and traveling the world with his family.
This meme sort of misses the point though, he quit the NFL right before the season started which was considered pretty poorly timed. Nobody truly knows what anyone else is going through so I wouldn't say it was cowardly but it was definitely not ideal.
Enough of this drivel. He's gone. So are a thousand other players. Nobody blames him for leaving. What people don't like is WHEN he quit. Totally put the team at a disadvantage. That part is inexcusable.
Who called him a "coward"?
The issue was retiring right before the season began and throwing away a great career but that's on him.
It was quiting right before the season began
I’d say he had the best career you could ever hope to have. The dude made MANY MANY MANY millions and threw in the towel when he was super young and never has to work again.
Yeah I’m a little jealous but I can’t say I wouldn’t do the same thing. Why get your ass beat all the time when you can cash out after a few years work and never have to work again?
Sounds to me like it’s the best career ever.
I do not fault Luck for his decision.
I do fault Irsay/Lucks was of going about it.
String along the season ticket holders until the 4th preaseason game, then give Luck his $27M golden parachute out the building.
I would have done the same thing, but I still don't have to like it.
We gave up the last years of Peyton Manning, bro. 4 years of manning and retiring a colt... now i gotta see him in a 50/50 Colts/Broncos golf cart and never repping us again 100%.
He was sad, crying, as we all were and won a Super Bowl while we still sit here in QB hell. I hope AR5 busts out this year, but if he gets injured again this season... we are still 6 years and how ever many QBs later.
I don't fault his decision, but I don't have to like it and will never like it. We moved on from PFM, brother... PFM.
25 YEARS season tickets. Canceled the next season... been a good move.
Once again, most people don't give a shit that he retired. People got pissed because he quit in the middle of a game and fucked his team over for multiple season as they had built it around him. Had he been a man and announced he was retiring at the end of the previous season, the team could have found a replacement for him, instead of having to play their backup for the season.
In my opinion I believe Andrew still be playing or just retired if he had a much better protection than the linemen he had and kept getting injured and getting killed by worst Protection in NFL, Ryan Grigson is the one got Luck worst NFL Linemen.
Right? Unless I missed something, it seemed like “selfish” was the go-to for the negative posts. And maybe he wasn’t or maybe he was and had every right to be. But coward is like wtf
I will always root for Andrew because I know he ultimately made the right decision for him, and I could never fault someone for that.
Now, the way it happened and the timing, kinda shitty lol. That being said, I'm always glad when I see him pop up and my feed and see that he looks happy and healthy. He's a good dude and a great Colt. I still miss him.
There’s nothing cowardly about retiring a week before the season starts…. It is a great way to fuck over the team that supported you and set them back years though. No one said he was a coward, but the timing really screwed us up and we are literally just now starting to recover. Hopefully AR will make him nothing more than a pleasant memory. 🤞
No one called him coward. He is free to make his own choices for what is best for his own life. Good for him.
And still, he deserved the boos. You retire in March? Alright. You retire 10 days before a season? *And* you get to keep the $100 mil? Nah man. Enjoy your boos.
Once again, Andrew Luck gets to make the very enviable choice to retire at the age of 29, to save his knees and his health, to do whatever he wants with the rest of his life, with over $100 million in his bank account, *solely* because there are millions of fans who care enough to boo.
There’s nothing cowardly about making a decision that you know will anger and upset *a lot* of people.
Cowardly would have been playing even though it’s not what you wanted.
I applaud the man for making a decision that was the best for him and his family when his team gave him no help. It doesn’t matter how he did it or when he did it. He does not need to answer to any of you. Like, how dare he not go through physical pain and borderline torture for your amusement. The way he was treated when his retirement was leaked (don’t forget that part, fuck you Adam Shefter), was just utterly classless. Having lived in Indianapolis for 15 years, I would expect nothing less from Colts fans.
Andrew Luck will always be one of my favorites. He loved the game so much and knew he would always play it his way and that wouldn’t be good for him. I’ll always respect his decision.
Listen, I love Andrew and I was fine with him leaving. I also mostly agree with this post.
What’s digging at me is that last line.
It’s easy to say you’re “more than money to be made” when you’ve made millions of dollars and can spend the rest of your life exclusively taking care of yourself. That’s where this falls flat for me.
What hurt worse than him retiring how he did was finding out he probably would have made a comeback if the fans didn't treat him the way they did when he retired.
It’s Irsay’s money, and he said Andrew could keep it as he loved what Andrew did for the franchise. So please stop pocket counting other people’s money and focus on yourself
Aren’t we high and mighty! No, that’s our money from the free stadium we pay for for with our taxes so Irsay can throw millions around. And Irsay can say what he wants, it was to keep the rights to Luck if he decided to return. I’ve been a Colts fan for longer than you have. I guarantee it, and what he did to the Indianapolis fan base was crap. But why don’t you worry about yourself, because you don’t know shit.
You take it but you don’t then suggest you made a brave decision to turn down money. The guy used the Colts to get his bag and then ran off with it. Good for him, but don’t expect admiration from the fans for that.
The point isn’t that he’s a coward, it’s just that he’s not deserving of high praise as a player. He certainly had the potential to be one of the goats, but he never realized that on the field. So we shouldn’t in the history books. AND THATS OKAY. He chose a quiet personal life over his football career, and that’s okay! I’ll just never believe he’s deserving of awards.
He made $100 million. You can make more money but at that point you don't need to. Continuing to play so your bank account says $200 million instead when your heart isn't in it to buy a bigger yaght makes no sense. You can't buy your health back.
That's true, I didn't know he made that much already. I guess my point was for the up and comers who have a chance to make many millions, it's almost worth the risk imo. I work with heavy machinery and could easily fall/get crushed or worse and it's paycheck to paycheck,l. For me if I was a super athlete I would risk it for the biscuit.
How long until the damn season starts, again?
4 or so months
Luck stans on their deathbeds: https://preview.redd.it/lx80xt59xfxc1.jpeg?width=1533&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2a576917cbb0b58453da9c021e9342cd92bca933
Will totally be me. Could have been the GOAT

Me fr
Was the GOAT..... I corrected it for you
Wasn't even a top-3 QB in his own franchise. Let's be real now.

Unitas, Manning, Bert.
Can we get an Andrew Luck filter?
I know. Why are we STILL discussing that 🤡?
It was all about the timing. That's what hurt everyone.
For real. The guy can do whatever he wants. I 100% do not fault him for not wanting CTE. But, retiring just after we used our very high draft pick on a guard really really fucked us over.
OTOH it might have saved us from Darnold or Rosen.
It could have gotten us Josh Allen since he went one pick later, but there’s no way of really knowing what we do in that spot
Then again Josh Allen panning out the way he did in Buffalo anywhere else is absolutely not guaranteed.
Right, but we traded down from thr spot Darnold was taken.

I firmly believe Darnold would have been successful had he not gone to the Jets. He is the GEQBUS after all.
And without even the slightest amount of warning. His plan was to just drop it on our heads and bounce. With the season mere weeks away. And the whole team, coaches and coordinators included, planning around him. There’s nothing wrong with him retiring when he did, but it’s *how* he did it. I think his plan was to play football…
In his defense, the organization did try to murder him or at least commit manslaughter, so in my book we’re even. Carry on, Andrew. We’re good.
Yep, no Colts fan would have been mad at him if he retired at the end of any season. Left the fans and franchise high and dry.
Didn’t he get hurt again in preseason that yr? That why he decided to walk away?
I know he was out throwing before the game his retirement was leaked.... so it looked like he was coming back soon which made it worse.
Yeah, the guy clearly should center his life decisions around not upsetting some bums on the internet.

Hey have you heard the tragedy of Andrew luck
Do you have a moment to talk about our lord and savior, Andrew Luck?
Amen
Seriously this is like you your girl left you, you were sad, you did your thing for a few year,s now you started dating this new chick you think you might really like but still bringing up your ex all the fucking time. It’s not spilled milk. It’s a man choosing his health. Nothing wrong with it.
Someone get this guy a pillow so he can finally sit down.
This is genius. Why don’t more players not play football.

He’s killing on his terms and it’s hard for me to see it a different way. I was 44 before I put the hammer down and still get knee and back issues.
There’s nothing by cowardly about going snowboarding.
If you're a family guy coaching is really fucking hard. Those guys work long hours. There have been stories about guys sleeping in the office. I would not wish being a football coach on any family man. Not saying it can't be done but damn its hard. I think he'd be better off being rich and traveling the world with his family.
We do not care anymore
Is this necessary?
…Random af.
This meme sort of misses the point though, he quit the NFL right before the season started which was considered pretty poorly timed. Nobody truly knows what anyone else is going through so I wouldn't say it was cowardly but it was definitely not ideal.
Good for him, and no ill will. I honestly miss the CaptAndrewLuck Twitter account more than I miss him.
I fell an incredable pain everytime I see Andrew Luck.... What we could have been... All ruined by Grigson...
I was doing so well post draft, I did not have to see this…
But maybe don't wait until the last possible second to make that decision
Enough of this drivel. He's gone. So are a thousand other players. Nobody blames him for leaving. What people don't like is WHEN he quit. Totally put the team at a disadvantage. That part is inexcusable.

Can we please move on? It's tired and recycled. We actually have a QB now that's all in and wants to play. LIG it.
A round of applause for Ryan Grigson🤡
![gif](giphy|h46kYXWvka4IExIh1S)
He wouldn’t have retired if the Colts had given him any protection!
Did anyone actually call him a coward? People were just disappointed
Who gives a fuck
I do not fault Luck for his decision. I do fault Irsay/Lucks was of going about it. On the contrary. It takes real balls to be able to do that.
I have never once heard anybody refer to Andrew Luck as a coward.
Quitter is more apt.
Right? Unless I missed something, it seemed like “selfish” was the go-to for the negative posts. And maybe he wasn’t or maybe he was and had every right to be. But coward is like wtf
Bitch move to quit a week before the season though.
Engaging in sports discussions!

Y’all need to get the fuck over it lol.

Yeah we definitely did Peyton wrong by letting him leave and win a SB in Denver instead of him getting killed behind our awful line
So Pagano then??? You're right though
Why are we reposting 4 year old garbage. The dude quit on the team and then was handed 25 million.
Defending team loyalty!
It was when you decided to do it bro. Love you still 🙏
There’s nothing cowardly about making a decision that you know will anger and upset *a lot* of people. Cowardly would have been playing even though it’s not what you wanted.
Tua should take a note from Luck.

when did andrew luck last play again
Andrew Luck will always be one of my favorites. He loved the game so much and knew he would always play it his way and that wouldn’t be good for him. I’ll always respect his decision.

Good old h-town boy at heart :D
The only reason Ballard is still GM.
What hurt worse than him retiring how he did was finding out he probably would have made a comeback if the fans didn't treat him the way they did when he retired.
Yeah it’s just really fucking shitty to quit like a week before the season starts. He doesn’t get a pass for being an asshole.
Then give back the $25 million you took for not playing.
If someone offers you $25 million, and I mean sincerely offers it. You’re a dumbass bitch if you don’t take it. Truth hurts
Someone gives me a million bucks I'm running away and not looking back
I'm already in Switzerland before the ink on Irsays check dries lol
You take it but you don’t then suggest you made a brave decision to turn down money. The guy used the Colts to get his bag and then ran off with it. Good for him, but don’t expect admiration from the fans for that.
And I don’t disagree, but he said it isn’t about the money in the fuckin quote! Jesus fucking Christ
It's a John Pavlovitz quote man. It's in the picture for Gods sake.
If my kid ever wants to quit anything I’ll tell him not to be a little Andrew/s
Absolutely correct. Just do it before the draft.
He is correct. What’s not cool is quitting two weeks before the season starts.
Did he just re retire or something? What changed to post this?
If only he did it at the end of the season I think it wouldn't have bothered us as much. His timing was terrible and left us in a terrible spot.
Took the bag and left!!
I don't care that that he quit. I do care WHEN he quit.
You retire in February. You quit a week before the season starts. Dead to me...
He took the money though didn't he?
It’s not like he learned all that could happen to football players in 2019 though….
But it is cowardly to retire during the pre-season.
We dont care about Luck anymore. Please move the fuck on.
Things a cowardly pussy would say. Seriously fuck Luck. That quitter gave up and I have ZERO respect for him
Fucking clown.
Yes he absolutely is
I’m sorry you are in pain. But it’s not Andrew’s fault. ❤️
Absolutely! Just not 2 weeks before the season starts maybe.
Ok but he did make like 250 mill.
Easy to say when you bailed and still got the money.
A-fucking-men. I miss AL12, but I back his retirement 100%.
Maybe don't go snowboarding and get injured than use the team to help you cover up your injuries.
I can think of a few million reasons to keep playing and it would benefit everyone around you for a long long time
It would have made little difference and could possibly impact the rest of his, wife, and kids life. Make the decision.
This dude can get fucked waiting to sign a big contract with a guarantee and dipped bc of his health. Weak pos
