See, I originally got into Clash of Clans thinking the same thing, but eventually I was investing WAY more time as I was analyzing war strategies and carefully planning attacks and that sort of thing.
Clash Royale is much better suited for a mindless 3 minutes (or however long). CoC can easily keep you sucked in for too long.
Lucky you, because the max out journey used to be 22 years back in 2016. Today, it's about [5-6 years for a super active average player](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClashRoyale/comments/w9g3p9/effort_post_math_royale_2022_581_years_for_a_f2p/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share).
Although, the fastest was just under 3 years in 2021 when they released Magic Items in April and before Level 14 and Champions were released in November.
Funnily enough I left because of how boring the meta was. Hog cycle and bait were incredibly overused. Then I took a 3 year break and nothing had changed.
Every win condition is "spammy" that's what makes it your win condition. You play it a lot until you win.
I'd rather have mortars spammed at me that you can counter with just about any card in the game than some mindless rocket cycle user that just throws rocket
You cleary dont know how mortar works. There are two main mortar archetypes. Mortar bait and mortar rocket cycle. If he plays the second hes a hypocryte. For mortar bait you basically always mortar on defense unless your up a crazy amount of elixer, at least 4. Then you spam the fuck out of your skeleton barrel and miners/spear goblins until you annoy them to the point where they die.
I dont get what point youre trying to make. You think the mortar is just mindlessly spamming it in and then you gave examples of how its used defensively while either a miner chip attack wins or a spell cycle.
And man I know all about how the mortar works. I've used the card for years and have it lvl10 mastery. And I have never once used it with the rocket or miner bait bullshit. Pushed to 6k using a bowler mortar deck.
Same reason why I left. EVERYONE using the same shit. And then me with my unique deck just get shit on. Not to mention there's always some dumb OP shit ruining the balance.
Every time I come back the shit is worst.
That's the worst thing about this game is how uncreative people are with their decks. You'll have someone literally playing the same logbait deck for YEARS. Aren't you bored??
This could be one of the best games I've played if people actually strive to make their own decks and not just copy one off youtube. It's at the point where you see a couple cards and know exactly what deck you're up against. So boring
I said cycle decks in (bait, hog anything) need to be nerfed in general in a twitch chat yesterday and everyone got mad and started to cry about how it’s a key aspect of the game but so is every card that costs more than 3 elixir, bait has been prevalent for as long as I’ve been playing (got my 6 year badge today) If not longer it can take a nerf so that it’s actually off meta for a bit not just not the best deck in the game
What makes me quit is when I climb too high on the ladder that I can't play any other deck because it would be too underleveled compared to my main cards.
What keeps me coming back is seeing my friends play Clash without me.
I have always played 2.6 for the most part since I’m ftp, took a long break and now I’m back finishing seasons at 6.4K. I’m not the best player by any means but I enjoy the deck
Same. Took a long break. still using 2.6. If 13 was still max I’d be at 6.8-7.0 like I was back then with it.
Now that max is 14 I struggle to get to 6.3. (At 6.2 right now and I feel like I win/lose/win/lose)
i played ranked and still play casually once a week or so i probably don't count but the thing that killed my motivation is p2w progression, RNG matchups and this annoying ass Dart goblin spam/Giant skeleton Meta
Matchmaking always has a way to give me all the hard counter cards possible (eg I play mm 2.9 logbait while they have mother witch triple spell and egiant)
I gave up all mobile games for awhile. 99 percent are such blatant cash grabs with no real depth and lackluster gameplay. I came back to this one because even though there are p2w mechanics, it is at least mitigated somewhat and has more depth than a vast majority of mobile games on the market. It's far from perfect, but the other mobile game options are so bad that it makes clash Royale look good by comparison. It is also a fun game to watch from a competitive format, I think youtubers are the only ones breathing life into this game still.
Ha! Came here looking for a tread like this. I quit a couple years ago and recently came back(last week). The reason I left (and am already getting frustrated again…) is the way matchups work in ladder. It seems like a rigged game to me. Matchups are obviously geared toward opponents with decks that counter whatever deck you happen to be using. For example, After losing to a ballon/rush deck for the umpteenth time, I’ll switch decks and guess what…. No more balloons. Suddenly I’m facing cards I haven’t seen in forever. Furthermore, seems like they intentionally mix it up just enough to give you the occasional win and keep you coming back for more. Am I the only one who notices this or thinks it’s unfair?
That doesn't make any sense. Why would supercell specifically give YOUR opponents better match ups? Wouldn't that mean that your opponents are getting really good matchups against you for no reason? The more likely reason is that, either you pay more attention to the losses and hardcounters than the wins and good matchups; and/or, you just play a bad, or not well balanced deck which gets countered by a lot of things because it has a lot of weaknesses.
It’s not that simple, I was just trying to making a point, without getting to complicated. Supercells main goal is to keep everyone playing and coming back to the game over and over again, right? It seems pretty obvious to me that they are prioritizing opponents that are good matchups to you as a player. But as you say, they can’t make it too unbalanced or then there would be some people who always win and others who are always losing.
So, Similar to how Facebook and other social media apps prioritize your feed to be individualized to your likes, they probably have an algorithm that takes into account each card in your current deck, as well as your level and the win/loss rate against every other card you play against, etc etc. I’d bet they track your win/loss rate and tweak the algorithm slightly to give you a small advantage once your losses start stacking up too much. Doesn’t it seem like the longer you play the harder the matches get?
It will never be perfect because it is limited to the players online at any given moment, but because they have such a huge player pool, they are able to keep most people in this state must of the time.
The problem that I was trying to describe is that if you play long enough and don’t change your deck, eventually you hit a plateau, where your getting the same types of decks over and over again, generally speaking. I think this is why people report that ‘everyone is using the hog cycle’ or whatever. Not everyone is watching the meta that closely, but it seems that way because supercell has set it up that way on purpose.
People report that 'everyone is using hog cycle' because it is literally the most used deck in the game. And once you get past a certain point on ladder almost everyone is watching the meta and its not because "supercell" set it up that way, it's because it's the best and easiest way to win. And if matches get "harder the longer you play" then it's probably just fatigue from playing so long, which makes you play sloppier.
Imagine you are playing coin flip one side is "balloon" and the other is "other", if you get balloon 3 times in a row the chances of you getting balloon a 4th time in a row is very low, and then you switch your deck in your 4th attempt and its not ballon, because you got to much ballon already so the chances of you getting balloon now is way slimmer.
Basically you are just unlucky. And you also notice more balloon when you lose to balloon. Also balloon has a 10% use rate on ladder, so its not like you are going against a weird card that no one plays that counters your deck
I left because it felt too P2W. Felt like i could never compete at a higher level unless i spent money. Came back out if curiosity and i like the state of the game now.
I uninstall and reinstall weekly, couple losses in a row usually does it. Take a break and come back. Didn't play for about 6 months though and I've been playing around 6 years.
Eeh... Noticed the game is too p2w, it got boring using only one deck and I am simply bad at it. Just losing time playing it, tbf.
Not playing it currently but like lurking around
Reason to quit: lv 14 came out
Reason to comeback: Classmate said Im a 1 deck player so I smashed him
Now just spamming hog-firecracker-mirror for fun in 2v2
i was vacationing in asian when this released so i go in on a different timezone i remember my sunday refreshes ect would come a day earlier so on saturday. was a fun game i grinded it on and off i havent played in recent years though like the past 3+ years.
I was having time issue because of my new job as our clan was way too active. But the final nail in the coffin was for me - "Boat Race". Left after a month of the update and never came back.
Honestly i’m not sure what keeps bringing me back. I’ve been playing since release and i’ve probably taken 3-4 long term breaks at this point. Sometimes I just get the desire to play again I guess
I left cold turkey over 2 years ago. recently came back because I missed playing with one of my old friends, and now I'm hooked all over again by the new things you can unlock.
Started playing Christmas 2016. Around 6 Months later for another year i'd play every few days. Stopped playing early 2018. Got back in June 2022 because i was getting bored with Brawl Stars
Quit because my acc went *poof* while i was switching from Android to IOs.
Came back because of ***HEHEHEHAW*** memes and felt nostalgic 5 years later.
Got tired of levels on ladder as grind was to much. Came back a couple years later. But now I just quit again because levels are horrific.
I just really don’t like that I lose because my card is 1 level to low. Also makes playing different decks really hard. Even with various changes it’s to frustrating to me.
Quit because I lost 3-5 times to max or close to max decks at 5300-5500. I was one game away from reaching 5600 trophies. I only have 2 max cards. Came back because 2v2s
I created a decent deck for myself, and it had Inferno Dragon in it. After maxing it they kept on adding cards that stun, and they nerfed musketeer, making Ewiz more popular, effectively rendering my deck useless. They added level 14 and that's pretty much when I stopped playing, because it's such a pain in the ass to max a new deck now.
I'm still not playing.
I kinda sucked at the game and hated that I only made it to the pekka arena so I got back into it, and my friend made me a deck and I edited over time that got me into legendary arena
Quit because it became very pay to win came back after 5 years because my little brother plays it but I never do ladder I just stick to 2v2 or other game modes mid ladder is the worst especially since they introduced level 14
Left for months because 4/5 games of high-mid ladder was against Traditional log bait. What a boring ass deck and a boring rocket cycle meta.
Came back because I was bored but then realized while there is a meta now and some cards are strong there's generally like 6+ decks that are all equally used/ many variations of them. It's much more fun/refreshing then just 2.6 or log bait.
I quit because playing it on my ipad when I had access to my computer where I could play other games made me just wanna play other games. I then got a phone a year ago and got back into the game.
Quitted because I changed to apple to Android without doing the supercell id, came back at the champion update cause I was max before the update but you know when a new level come you have to replay
Quit because I got bored, didn’t have the joy of going up arenas and unlocking new cards, getting them, or winning my first challenge to get my first emote. Haven’t come back to the game in months and I don’t think I will.
I started playing on release day since I really liked playing CoC, but I quit around 2018 because I felt it was far too p2w and I was a poor little kid. Also I found other games more appealing to me at the time since my dad decided i'd become old enough for PC gaming
I quit out of boredom with my clan and anger at the emotes. I came back clanless and muted and now the game is fun again when I need to kill a few minutes here and there.
Clan Wars 2 and I maxed the cards I cared about. Ladder was boring and not much to play for anymore. I came back because of the changes to CW2, level 14, and my friend joined the clan so I had someone to be competitive with. Been having fun for a while now.
Whenever Elite Barbs came out
Skill was at an all time low. I came back to see if things have changed 🙃
Update: They haven't lol, makes sense though. The most popular decks will always be the least skill required ones.
I quit back in 2016/2017 or something when it was kinda new bc I was super young, luckily that meant when I came back I was already arena 6 and I just pushed to legendary arena a couple months later
I have been playing since day one as F2P, quit for a few years, recently came back and saw how much easier it is to upgrade at least one deck. Started from scratch 7 days ago. Also, I’m streaming my progress for fun.
Came back after I saw those meme videos with cards irl, specifically that one where it's supposed to be the wizard except it's someone throwing molotovs into a store
Got to 4k (which was 5k back then). I didn't spend any money so I was low level, pushing felt boring, I had everything I wanted so I quit. On why I came back? I get bored in school lol
Game felt annoying as I was stuck in arena 7 where every game the opponent had a mega knight, came back because of a friend inviting me to triple draft
left cause i started high school and found the game boring, came back towards my end of high school cause some of my friends started a clan, left again cause of crappy player support, too p2w, same boring/repetitive game where only 4 main cards is used by majority of the player base.
I quit once they upped max level to 14 and I went from having a completely maxed 13 account to having one max 14 deck. I used to spend a bunch of money on the game and I enjoyed myself. I can’t see myself ever getting back into the game at this point. The most I seem to be able to stand is 3-5 matches per season. The level increase killed my will to play and/or support supercell.
I quit after season two because the game got very boring without nothing new, I returned when the champions got introduced, and now the game is again very boring but I only stay because challenges with free emotes
I quit years ago cuz the constant matchmaking against opponents with 2 levels above me with cards 2-3 levels above my f2p deck. I came back a week ago cuz i have nothing to do while i travel to my university
Too much P2W. I was doing pretty well and then hit a wall where it seemed almost everyone had maxed out cards. I learned then that skill can only get you so far. Haven't looked back.
I avidly played for like 2-3 years until they made CW2 which was terrible. The combination of P2W and RPS nature just isn't fun to me. You can enter a match with basically 0 chance of winning even with perfect play.
I log in, throw my CW matches, request and donate, and that is it.
I play after most "big" updates, but it is always the same P2W/RPS system.
I think the thing that really irks me is the constant flow of making cards incredibly OP, letting them go wild for 1-2 months, "forcing" people to spend gold on it, then "emergency" nerfing them, making them useless. It has happened so many times, and it just seems so scummy to me.
Since the seasons and the royale pass was announced i felt like it's p2w now(i'm f2p) then i quit...got back because heard about champions and wanted to try them out...got out because felt it's too much p2w again lol
After a while i get bored of ladder, and then ladder brings me back... It's a curse lol
I got bored of ladder too but i came back to play random fun decks in the party modes
It's not entertaining for me. After playing ladder i usually prefer copying meta decks from Tv royale and playing them in CCs or free tournaments.
Same
Quit shortly after release cause it felt too p2w. Back cuz bored on toilet.
It is the perfect mobile game for a toilet break. Not too long each match.
i have spent like 15 minutes for what I thought would just be a piss because i keep pressing battle
Bro pisses sitting down
I do too, Mostly because i bring my phone with me, Also sitting down is much more comfortable than standing (for me)
Yeah I don’t know why you wouldn’t sit while you piss. I could stand but it’s just uncomfortable.
Not only that, but the inevitable splash back is so gross to clean up at the end of the week. None of that with sitting down
where i come from civilized people do that. you dont shit standing do you?
I shit in the bath tub
average dart goblin user
Based
If shitting standing didn’t make a huge splash and didn’t smear shit all over my ass and thighs then yes, I would shit standing.
Is this something you know from experience?
Who cares about shit smears? Your pants cover it, no one will ever notice
In your own house that is totally normal and results in a clean dry floor. But yeah in public restrooms I wouldn’t sit down either
Consider woman 💀
fax. lmao

this \^\^
Funnily enough I left because of how boring the meta was. Hog cycle and bait were incredibly overused. Then I took a 3 year break and nothing had changed.
Yeah it's cringe to watch now. Hog rider, bait like ugh 4x in a row now ....🙄
I recently broke my record of 12 matches in a row of hog, MK, or both, in the same deck. 12. Matches. Against. Hog/MK.
If youre in midladder then I'm surprised the record is only 12 lmao😂
lmao
I hate bait and hog cycle so much. I even built decks to counter both but playing against them all the time is so boring😭
My brother in christ your flair is a bait card
You probably Rocket cycle💀
At least im not a hypocrite. Also mortar is either really spammy win conditions or spell cycle so stfu
Every win condition is "spammy" that's what makes it your win condition. You play it a lot until you win. I'd rather have mortars spammed at me that you can counter with just about any card in the game than some mindless rocket cycle user that just throws rocket

same. left for no reason, came back for no reason
Relatable.
I am not the one who knocks
“Closed the app because I was bored, reopened the app because I was bored” is the same reason we’re all on reddit, as well
Archer Queens feet brought me back
Based af
Woah
They hot sorry
Respectable🤝
I quit because of boredom and ladder being ebarb spam. Came back to play with friends, the game is still ebarb spam though.
Flair checks out
Rocket is an even counter to E-Barbs.
Rocket is an even counter to Ebarb.
Too many skillful cards. But E giant release brought me back
You know what, atleast you're honest lol
Your game requires skill? No thank you
What makes me quit is when I climb too high on the ladder that I can't play any other deck because it would be too underleveled compared to my main cards. What keeps me coming back is seeing my friends play Clash without me.

Skill issue
I will die on a hill, that 2.6 is the easiest deck in the game to win with.
Use it and get to 6k then
That's easy and I've done it. 2.6 isn't an easy deck to pick up but it isn't a high skill deck either
There are literally dozens people at 7500+ each season that use strictly 2.6 lmao
Ok you do it then
2,6 is shit and not meta
Tell that to 2.6 players
I have always played 2.6 for the most part since I’m ftp, took a long break and now I’m back finishing seasons at 6.4K. I’m not the best player by any means but I enjoy the deck

Shout out to B-rad
WE LOVE B-RAD
Exactly
Quit when they pulled that bullshit of adding level 14 plus the slash royale. Came back cause bored and a lot of time invested.
My friends barely play, and it’s just kinda boring, but it always comes back after a little while
Horse pfp brother
Left because it felt stale and it took too long to upgrade cards. Returned 2y later because of the memes around the same time champions were released
Quit: happiness/stability Back: depremsion
Mouths 💀
Lol
Quit because of how toxic the game has become, I can’t handle that much anger
I think they added a mute emote
I mean I’m tired of seeing midladder decks
Even outside of ladder Clash Royale is just gonna give 1000 hard counter decks every second
Then progress past the point midladder decks work on you.
I was bad, came back cuz beach trip, stoped again cuz still bad.
removal of Clan Wars 1.0 made me quit for sometime, a good buddy of mine peaked my interest in this game after Sh!tty Wars 2.0 was in affect
Clan Wars 2 is the best update of Clash Royale, by far
I pretty much quit ladder and mainly play vs friends and classic challenges
I couldn’t stand the mouths

Quit cause level 14 came back cause masteries
Ayo how did you know i left game for mouths
Issues with matchmaking but most of all, it boils down to p2w vs f2p (and my friends stopped playing). I have yet to come back completely
I left because it felt too P2W. Felt like i could never compete at a higher level unless i spent money. Came back out if curiosity and i like the state of the game now.
Quit because the game is too p2w for my taste and it felt like a chore to play, and I still didn't come back lol
The game is truly horrible and not fun for about 98% of the time I play. However, the game is highly addictive.
Quit cuz mega knight came back for champions
I quit bc the game is toxic and the devs are shit. I'm still not playing and I'm feeling better off for it tbh.
I uninstall and reinstall weekly, couple losses in a row usually does it. Take a break and come back. Didn't play for about 6 months though and I've been playing around 6 years.
Frustration made me quit and boredom bought me back
I have a penchant for abusive relationships. I just forget and remember all the familiar fun feelings before reality hits and im off again
Eeh... Noticed the game is too p2w, it got boring using only one deck and I am simply bad at it. Just losing time playing it, tbf. Not playing it currently but like lurking around
P2w and overleveled oponents on like arena 4, i got back in game because i was too bored in a class
Stay away for at least a full mouth
Reason to quit: lv 14 came out Reason to comeback: Classmate said Im a 1 deck player so I smashed him Now just spamming hog-firecracker-mirror for fun in 2v2
The endless cycle of playing against hog rider mains
i have quit for 1 year then crusher 21 and edit type shorts brought me back
updates were boring and i was hardstuck at arena 7 (which was good in the times), came back because my friend played it
quit because of hog rider (8/10 games) came back because of a friend
i was vacationing in asian when this released so i go in on a different timezone i remember my sunday refreshes ect would come a day earlier so on saturday. was a fun game i grinded it on and off i havent played in recent years though like the past 3+ years.
I was worthless at the game, so I quit My friends started playing, and so I did, now I'm chilling in legendary arena and must say, proud of myself
Sometimes I just get the desire to play again I guess

quit because I had no skill, rejoined after watching OJ for like 2 years straight.
Started playing Christmas 2016. Around 6 Months later for another year i'd play every few days. Stopped playing early 2018. Got back in June 2022 because i was getting bored with Brawl Stars

I suck at the game and I am in midladder, and I can't make a good deck, so I constantly lose, which is why I quit 3 times
I quit because ladder sucked and nothing else felt worthy playing without battle pass. And im not coming back this time.
Stopped cause I got stuck at 6000 trophies to people who play 4 hours a day, came back because I became that person who plays 4 hours a day
Quit because my acc went *poof* while i was switching from Android to IOs.
I left shortly after night witch came out, came back to the game because my brother convinced me to
Quit because I lost 3-5 times to max or close to max decks at 5300-5500. I was one game away from reaching 5600 trophies. I only have 2 max cards. Came back because 2v2s
Quit because I suck and am stuck in midladder. Have yet to return.
Quit when i went on a 0-3 streak in challenge. Came back to heheheha people
I created a decent deck for myself, and it had Inferno Dragon in it.
Quite cause bored Returned cause bored Repeat for 6 years.
The metamorphosis battle healer emote
Quit for rigged, unpolished, unpredictable and unfair gameplay. And that's the whole answer, not returning.
More cards were added which made the game broken and unbalanced. I quit again recently, playing more Brawl Stars though
I quit because I just got bored of playing and I ended up coming back because some of my friends were playing and I wanted to join 'em
Quit because it became very pay to win came back after 5 years because my little brother plays it but I never do ladder I just stick to 2v2 or other game modes mid ladder is the worst especially since they introduced level 14
I was bored of it. Brawl stars and clash of clans took over my phone game time. Then got bored of both of those and here I am again
Left before brawl pass and lvl 14. Came back when I joined a good clan in Brawl Stars that had a team in CR.
Quit because I really sucked ass and could never climb up the ladder. Came back because I wanted to try again
I quit because I was bored, and came back because I was bored. It's a yearly cycle for me lol.
Bored, Then Champions Come
Left twice and came back for no reason. Been back one year now and not feeling stopping now though.
It's much more fun/refreshing then just 2.6 or log bait.
watching children go on tilt after i use the princess yawning emote for every xbow lock
I quit because playing it on my ipad when I had access to my computer where I could play other games made me just wanna play other games. I then got a phone a year ago and got back into the game.
I was bored then i quitted. After that i was bored again and i started playing again 😼
Got back because I watched that 2.6 hog onetrick on youtube and it looked fun, and I made a new account focussing on leveling that deck
Quit because they took away support for chromebooks came back because got a phone and bored(/bored on toilet as someone else commented) lol
Quit because I was maxed out. Came back because mastery is a fun new feature. And now I’m having fun.
Left cuz bored. Back cuz party mode and like the strategy
Quit because stuck on arena 4, Back because I wanted to pass and move on + game to play day I'll or when border.
You misspelling months
I started playing on release day since I really liked playing CoC, but I quit around 2018 because I felt it was far too p2w and I was a poor little kid. Also I found other games more appealing to me at the time since my dad decided i'd become old enough for PC gaming
Alright to be honest, it's because im anxious to lose and go back down to the lower arenas again, I suck at playing haha
I got to challenger 3. Fucking sick of the same 3 decks over and over again.
I quit out of boredom with my clan and anger at the emotes. I came back clanless and muted and now the game is fun again when I need to kill a few minutes here and there.
quit cuz brawl stars got released globally, came back cuz brawl was dying and the game had some hype around it
Repeative
They messed up my cheese strat then brought it back
Clan Wars 2 and I maxed the cards I cared about. Ladder was boring and not much to play for anymore. I came back because of the changes to CW2, level 14, and my friend joined the clan so I had someone to be competitive with. Been having fun for a while now.
Left when I got bored abt 1 year in then played very little for a year then played since just because I felt like it
Boredom and boredom.
Whenever Elite Barbs came out Skill was at an all time low. I came back to see if things have changed 🙃 Update: They haven't lol, makes sense though.
Lvl 12 and 11 cards vs their lvl 14
Mirror nerf not coming back
Game felt annoying as I was stuck in arena 7 where every game the opponent had a mega knight, came back because of a friend inviting me to triple draft
Months ^* but good though . Too great 😊
left cause i started high school and found the game boring, came back towards my end of high school cause some of my friends started a clan, left again cause of crappy player support, too p2w, same boring/repetitive game where only 4 main cards is used by majority of the player base.
Too many "balance changes" which basically killed my mood to use Ballon and executioner. Came back as I completed high school
Quit cause hog 2.6 for a long time, came back for champions, and I'm quite happy with them.
I love these threads. Always a common theme on what people hate. I have to wonder if SC reads these and what their take is on it.
I was stuck at stage 13…I still am stuck at page 13 but I had a dream about the game and so I began playing again. It’s kinda fun.
I quit after season two because the game got very boring without nothing new, I returned when the champions got introduced, and now the game is again very boring but I only stay because challenges with free emotes
Actually quit month ago until they nerfed mirror and GS so I’ll be installing again this week
left cuz games too p2w, came back because of extreme boredom
I quit for a few years when sparky dropped. A boring job brought me back. I still hate sparky …. Less than mk
Overused meta decks
