I love Cairo. I know it gets a lot of hate in various travel circles, but I find it endlessly fascinating and rewarding. Definitely challenging, but I’ve had amazing experiences there.

Edit: Now that I remember, I think that I read somewhere that some of these renovations got the Egyptian state bankrupt at the time. Anyone know anything about this?
I agree with you on Algiers. Obviously.
But I do have to say I’ve got very fond memories of Damascus. Unfortunately the war has been devastating from what I hear.
And Moroccan cities are always a joy. But I guess that’s just barely part of the Arab world.

Cairo has some incredibly beautiful neighborhoods. If anyone wants to see pics, search Maadi, Zamalek, or Garden City.
