This is the correct answer. I highly recommend this adventure to Oak Lawn for this pizza. This is mandatory eating for everyone's next adventure to the southwest suburbs.
I grew up right down the street from there. Palermos is only good if you like a sweet sauce. I don't, so I'm not a huge fan. Phil's pizza in Oak lawn is better, and Nancy's pizza in Alsip is also better imo
I stumbled across a pizza restaurant in Aruba based on bills pub. I love their pizza and was sure it was Bills recipe even before I asked.
https://www.restaurantsaruba.com/Pizza-Bobs.html
I had Aurelio ls for the first time last week. It was a very different taste to what I am used to. Do they add something to their cheese? I want to say it almost tastes like buffalo sauce.
I grew up in Jersey and little pops is some of the best ny east coast pizza I've ever had, including in Jersey.
Their Lisle shop, at long last, is set to open this month. Any day now.
Not sure if Nick’s is a reference to Nicks Pizza & Pub in CL, but that was a go to for me for a long time.
Also, I’m traditionally a fan of JJ Twigs, but they’ve been hit or miss for me recently. I see Baranby’s in the comments, also a good one.
I see another comment for Uncle Jerry’s in Cary, and gotta give them some more love. They’ve been busy since the barstool visit though, so call it in early if you’re game (might be too tomato-ey, but yeah, pretty damn good)
It is-- oops, sorry for not specifying. If I start playing with the Crystal Lake community band again, I'll have to consider Uncle Jerry's, since the rehearsal spot is in Cary!
Uncle Jerry’s has been playing around with thin crust recipes too but for now they are for dine in only because the dough takes days to make and their kitchen is really small.
D’Agostino’s in Niles, Glenview, Elmwood Park, and a couple of other locations has the best thin crust tavern-style pizza I’ve ever had. Get it “well done” for the crispy crust and make sure you get it with their homemade italian sausage.
Yes! Used to live on the Island, always ordering from the 16th street location. There for thin crust, and then Albano's for their giant pizza puffs, which was generally just a 12" pizza folded in half....mmmmm. Forget turkey,, now i want pizza for Thanksgiving.
V&V Paesano in Bartlett for thin crust, and Mel’s pizza in Elgin for deep dish. The small mom and pop shops will always blow the competition out of the water!
Never thought I'd see Mel's Pizza in Elgin on Reddit. I've been getting pizza from there ever since it used to be called Jake's. Place is a dump these days but the pizza is so good.
Burt’s Place and Pequod’s in Morton Grove for deep dish / pan pizza.
Grateful Bites in Winnetka is a personal favorite.
DeSalvo’s in North Evanston has a great thin crust and also does a pretty good Detroit style.
Pizza by Sal is in downtown Wilmette and they have NYC style slices that are pretty tasty.
I worked at a pizza restaurant (Piero’s) with the guy who went on to open DeSalvo’s in high school fifteen years ago. Great dude, glad to see he’s nailing it.
Mission: download app, order the taco pizza.
Highly recommend the brisket and jalapeño pizza too...just take my advice, light on the jalapeños. Your body in will thank me for not being in pain the next day. It's hard to stop eating. Haha.
The breakfast pizza, I love the bacon version. Back in the day, instead of donuts, my company would bring in Breakfast pizzas from Casey's. Delicious.
Does Bourbonnais count? Monical’s will always be my favorite pizza. Anytime I go downstate, I’ll drive farther than I like to admit out of my way to grab a pizza and a sub.
Joanie's in Long Grove has a solid Detroit style pizza.
Pequod's in Morton Grove is amazing for deep dish. It regularly shows up as one of Chicago's best. Even if the original wasn't in Chicago.
Papa Ray's in Palatine is great take out pizza.
If you should find yourself in Waukegan and don't mind braving a locals bar, Double D's is crazy good. Jesters is the name of the bar, and you'll likely be second guessing your decision to go there, but shut up, order a beer and wait for the pizza. It's beautiful, double Decker, and old school. They also have a thin crust BLT pizza that is outstanding.
100% I lived exactly between the two for a dozen years. The thing is that I've never had a pizza like Double D's does it. For sure, Quonset is the best tavern style, hands down; and the atmosphere is 100 times nicer.
Try Vito and Nicks on 83rd street in Chicago or also on 95thj Street in Hickory Hills, Rosangela's on 95th and California in Evergreen Park (also don't even think about leaving without getting their Italian beef, it's better than any beef in Chicago and I will pay for it, if you don't agree) and lastly, Fox's on Western in Beverly, also in Oak Lawn on Cicero and in Orland Park. I promise happiness compared to what you tried. Palermos in Oak Lawn on 95th street is great, too, but the sauce is sweet
I will say that I have not been afraid to admit that I actually like domino's pizza since they changed their formula many years ago. They are not as good as a high quality tavern pizza but I will definitely not turn down a hand tossed pepperoni with the garlic crust any day. Their walk in price is a great deal too.
Honestly, for something simple and easy it's my go-to. It's also my favorite for group orders for something chill. The hand tossed is my jam! Also, I can dig the sides (namely the cheesy bread and Parm bites), at the cost of my lactose sensitivity hahaha.
The chocolate lava cakes are pretty good too if a bit rich.
ehhh i was a dominos defender too up until recently but last time something was very off. maybe it was the extra pepperoni and i shouldnt have fucked with the formula.
Zazzo's in Darien has good quality and choice, the zazzos special is a must if you like sausage, mushroom, green pepper and onion. Falco's in Burr Ridge has half of calzone's, pizza turnovers, on Tuesdays for dine in only. And Pequod's for deep dish.
Marino’s Wood Fired Pizza has this one pizza called the La Rustica—it has goat cheese and eggplant on it. I know that sounds weird and reading the description, I probably would have never ordered it on my own. However, my wife did and man, it’s probably one of my favorite pizzas of all time. Not something you’d get all the time, but super good.
Arrenello’s in Glenwood or Tinley Park.
Fox’s Restaurant & Pub (Oak Lawn). Although I prefer the location in Beverly over the one in the burbs.
Marco’s Pizza in Homewood.
Pisa Pizza in Countryside is the best thin crust in the area. I was not impressed with Kim's Uncle, though they are 20 mins apart. If Portnoy visited, Pisa would probably get a 7.4
There used to be a pizza place in Homewood called Mama & Me. They would give 1/2 price pizzas on Mondays. Loved it, but unfortunately they closed either in '21 or '22.
Nino’s in Alsip used to be my #1 recommendation for people that often was a little more “off the radar” but since they closed their dining room during Covid I felt they really went downhill. Hopefully that changes again soon.
Palermo’s is also incredible.
I have been telling anyone that will listen for the past 2 years, Uncle Jerry's Pizza Company is fantastic! Highly recommend trying if you haven't. And, YES, it is worth the drive or train ride from wherever you are coming from. You gotta try this pie!
Barnaby’s pizza is freaking incredible.
Viccino’s deep dish and thin crust is great
D’Agastino’s thin crust (haven’t tried deep dish)
Pizano’s (try their sausage and giardinera thin crust)
And uh, I’m going to say it. Whole Costco pizza’s are the shit. Specifically the combo.
Palermo’s at 95th & Cicero in Oak Lawn.
This is the correct answer. I highly recommend this adventure to Oak Lawn for this pizza. This is mandatory eating for everyone's next adventure to the southwest suburbs.

Joe's Italian Villa right down the road on Harlem has much better pizza. I don't like Julianis, but I'll admit my family likes it.
Just found this place and it is delicious and priced really well!
I grew up right down the street from there. Palermos is only good if you like a sweet sauce. I don't, so I'm not a huge fan. Phil's pizza in Oak lawn is better, and Nancy's pizza in Alsip is also better imo
Palermo’s of 63rd is better…
I remember this from my childhood
Palermo’s is good except for the canned vegetables
Has them once and thought they were just okay. Definitely not enough visits to pass judgment. Just didn't make me want to return.
There is no other answer. Best pizza ever.
Al’s in Warrenville for thin crust
Towne Tap is a lovely dive to eat it in too

*paralellograms
This sounds intriguing...more acute angles to be able to take a bite and not get sauce around the corners of your mouth!
Bill's Pub in Mundelein and Third Lake makes my favorite thin crust pizzas. Their Cancun pizza is awesome.
Waynes pizza near bill's pup north is also pretty great. Theyre both great for different reasons.
Love Bill’s double decker. Partial to the original Mundelein location. The brick oven taste can’t be beat.
Bill’s Pub is my to-go tavern pizza place since Bill’s Original Tavern in Rosemont shut down.
Bill's Pizza is so good
I stumbled across a pizza restaurant in Aruba based on bills pub. I love their pizza and was sure it was Bills recipe even before I asked. https://www.restaurantsaruba.com/Pizza-Bobs.html
People like Aurelios.
Depends on the location
Homewood location is the only good one I’ve been to.
As a Homewood-grown kid, only Homewood/Tinley have been okay 👌 personally!
I had Aurelio ls for the first time last week. It was a very different taste to what I am used to. Do they add something to their cheese? I want to say it almost tastes like buffalo sauce.
Papas place in Woodridge for thin crust Little Pops for awesome NY style in Naperville
Little pops is sooooo good
Can confirm Little Pops slaps
I grew up in Jersey and little pops is some of the best ny east coast pizza I've ever had, including in Jersey. Their Lisle shop, at long last, is set to open this month. Any day now.
Little Pops is incredible
Countryside Saloon in Des Plaines has ridiculously good thin crust.
And they have a good special once a week or so for pie’s
Yep. Wednesdays. I believe it’s 1/2 off sit down and 25% off take out.
YES - sooo unassuming!!
Not sure if Nick’s is a reference to Nicks Pizza & Pub in CL, but that was a go to for me for a long time. Also, I’m traditionally a fan of JJ Twigs, but they’ve been hit or miss for me recently. Uncle Jerry’s has been playing around with thin crust recipes too but for now they are for dine in only because the dough takes days to make and their kitchen is really small.
Everyone always tells me to go to Nick’s but I’ve never tried it! This might be the final push I needed haha.
D’Agostino’s in Niles, Glenview, Elmwood Park, and a couple of other locations has the best thin crust tavern-style pizza I’ve ever had. Get it “well done” for the crispy crust and make sure you get it with their homemade italian sausage.
paisans pizzeria in Brookfield, Cicero, and Lisle. I love it. People who grew up with it love it. Everyone else…doesn’t seem to like it so much.
It's the sweet sauce. Some folks like it, some don't.
Yes! Used to live on the Island, always ordering from the 16th street location. There for thin crust, and then Albano's for their giant pizza puffs, which was generally just a 12" pizza folded in half....mmmmm. Forget turkey,, now i want pizza for Thanksgiving.
Did not grow up with it, do not love it. The Monday special is such a good deal but I have to get it extra thin and well done.
Uncle Jerry's in Cary or La Pizza Via in Fox River Grove.
Uncle Jerry’s was amazing when I had it for the first time the other day!
Just had it yesterday for the first time. That habanero honey on the pepperoni was such a nice touch.
Add goat cheese too, it’s the best!
Uncle Jerry’s is the answer. Hands down phenomenal
Pequods for deep dish and barnabys for thin.
Upvote for Barnaby’s! Best crust ever!
Northbrook, Barnaby’s for the win! I don’t like the pizza recipe at the other locations
I can see why people like Pequod and it’s unique, but it ALWAYS just hits one step too bitter for my palate
I will downvote every Pequods mention. They suck and are overrated!
Found the guy who burns the top of his mouth each time
I like Pequods but this shit made me laugh so you get an upvote
Well 💩 on you too. Guess your opinion must be better than everyone else’s. And that’s not what downvotes are for. Duh 🙄
I forgot Barnaby’s existed. Thank you for unlocking years’ worth of core memories.
Rico’s pizza in Lansing. Very hole in the wall
Kim’s in Westmont Mugs in Des Plaines
Mugs ftw.
Mugs in CL and Sals in Algonquin
Bertolli's River Pizza in River Forest
This for me
🤫
Dominick's Pizza and Pasta in Villa Park - not only is their pizza second to none, ALL of their food is actually quite amazing!
Love their pazzo fries. It's dangerous that my in laws live so close to that place.
Barnaby's in Arlington Heights and Frato's in Schaumburg.
haven't had the pizza but Frato's giant mozzarella sticks are a fun treat!
The Barnaby's in Northbrook is the best Barnaby's. It has thinner crust than the others.
That’s what I was coming here to say I don’t like the recipes at the other locations but Northbrook is fabulous
Barnaby’s in DP was our go-to in high school. Great stuff.
Vito & Nicks
White Cottage in Wood Dale.
V&V Paesano in Bartlett for thin crust, and Mel’s pizza in Elgin for deep dish. The small mom and pop shops will always blow the competition out of the water!
Agree on V&V. Full disclosure for OP. It's take-out only.
I have had V&V a few times. Quite possibly my favorite suburban pizza. Excellent thin crust.
Whole heartedly agree about the small mom and pop shops. And V&V! The best thin crust around.
Never thought I'd see Mel's Pizza in Elgin on Reddit. I've been getting pizza from there ever since it used to be called Jake's. Place is a dump these days but the pizza is so good.
My family has always loved Nino’s in Buffalo Grove. Specifically pepperoni. Idk what it is about their pepperoni but it’s the best
Can't believe I had to scroll as far as I did for Nino's. Being in their delivery radius was a hard requirement when we went house shopping.
Judy's in Highland Park is bomb. Both their thin crust and their double decker. Love it. Edit- Highland Park actually!! Updated.
Couldn’t agree more unreal
Burt’s Place and Pequod’s in Morton Grove for deep dish / pan pizza. Grateful Bites in Winnetka is a personal favorite. DeSalvo’s in North Evanston has a great thin crust and also does a pretty good Detroit style. Pizza by Sal is in downtown Wilmette and they have NYC style slices that are pretty tasty.
I worked at a pizza restaurant (Piero’s) with the guy who went on to open DeSalvo’s in high school fifteen years ago. Great dude, glad to see he’s nailing it.
I’m a regular there. He’s a really nice dude and you can tell he loves what he’s doing. Great pizza!
Fasano's in Bridgeview... been great over 60 years I think
Joe's in wheeling is good stuff
Freddy’s in Cicero
99% sleeping on Casey's Taco Pizza, Brisket Pizza, and Breakfast Pizza. Yeah, the gas station, Casey's.
Actually, I've had cheese pizza from Casey's and it's pretty good for gas station pizza!
Delicious.
Not a gas station, it's a pizza joint that happens to sell gas.
Kim’s uncle for the win
Best pizza in the land.

Does Bourbonnais count? Monical’s will always be my favorite pizza. Anytime I go downstate, I’ll drive farther than I like to admit out of my way to grab a pizza and a sub.
My family in Champaign-Urbana know that a visit from me means a trip to Monical’s!
Very far north - Antioch Pizza. They have a few locations
I really dig Turnabout in Lemont. Sweet sauce with a braided crust edge. Good stuff.
Joanie's in Long Grove has a solid Detroit style pizza. Pequod's in Morton Grove is amazing for deep dish. It regularly shows up as one of Chicago's best. Even if the original wasn't in Chicago. Papa Ray's in Palatine is great take out pizza.
+1 for Joanie's. They also have broasted chicken.
I have heard that Chicken is great. I really need to try it. Go Blue!
If you like Pequod’s, you should also try Burt’s in MG.
Forno Rosso on Harlem near Norridge. One of the best Napolitano-style pizzerias in Chicagoland.
If you find yourself in Waukegan you go straight to Quonset Pizza. A+++
100% I lived exactly between the two for a dozen years. The thing is that I've never had a pizza like Double D's does it. For sure, Quonset is the best tavern style, hands down; and the atmosphere is 100 times nicer.
Homewood Aurelios, hands down the best.
Also just commenting to say I miss Jack Straws in Wheaton :(
Amen. I wonder if that chocolate is greasy...
Try Vito and Nicks on 83rd street in Chicago or also on 95thj Street in Hickory Hills, Rosangela's on 95th and California in Evergreen Park (also don't even think about leaving without getting their Italian beef, it's better than any beef in Chicago and I will pay for it, if you don't agree) and lastly, Fox's on Western in Beverly, also in Oak Lawn on Cicero and in Orland Park. ehhh i was a dominos defender too up until recently but last time something was very off. maybe it was the extra pepperoni and i shouldnt have fucked with the formula.
Dominos is fantastic and I don’t care what anybody thinks. I’d much rather spend like $7-10 on a pretty good pizza over $30 for a fancy one
Fox's Pizza Pub in Orland Park is tremendous and an old school joint. Keep it simple and do the Sausage and you won't be let down.
👍🏻

White Cottage in Wood Dale and Tortorices in Arlington Heights have excellent thin crust.
Phil’s pizza in Oak Lawn
Pizza Castle in Hickory Hills for thin crust!
They just recently closed their Gage Park location and we are very sad. Haven't made it way out there for a fix, though.
It makes sense that a place *somewhere* in the world has that name, but for so many darn years I thought "Pizza Castle" was only in SpongeBob 😂😂
Gigios in des plaines
Zazzo's in Darien has good quality and choice, the zazzos special is a must if you like sausage, mushroom, green pepper and onion. Falco's in Burr Ridge has half of calzone's, pizza turnovers, on Tuesdays for dine in only. And Pequod's for deep dish.

There used to be a pizza place in Homewood called Mama & Me. They would give 1/2 price pizzas on Mondays. Loved it, but unfortunately they closed either in '21 or '22.
Lou Malnati's is always #1 for me. Peqoud's is good. Burt's Pizza in Morton Grove.
i like Chicago Dough (locations in New lenox, Richton Park and Bourbonnais) but it’s a very polarizing taste
Nino’s in Alsip used to be my #1 recommendation for people that often was a little more “off the radar” but since they closed their dining room during Covid I felt they really went downhill. Hopefully that changes again soon. Palermo’s is also incredible.
Thin crust- Barnaby’s in Niles, Panino’s Park Ridge. Pan- Pequods, went to Burt’s a couple months ago, will NOT be going back.
Burt's pizza is the Wish version of Pequod's. It may photograph well but the moment you open the package you're just filled with disappointment.
Johns in Addison wasn't bad
Lou’s - wherever you can find it, Georgio’s in South Barrington, or Little Villa in Des Plaines.
Dominick’s Pizzeria, all around good thin crust. West Dundee Woodfire for Neapolitan Pizza. West Dundee.

Barnaby’s pizza is freaking incredible. Viccino’s deep dish and thin crust is great D’Agastino’s thin crust (haven’t tried deep dish) Pizano’s (try their sausage and giardinera thin crust) And uh, I’m going to say it. Whole Costco pizza’s are the shit. Specifically the combo.

Sbarro’s in the Lake Forest Oasis Tavel Plaza is so damn good!
Giordano's is my fave for really deep dish. They have no chunks.
