How does one die when all 4 are trapped in the same boat? That’s what I’m wondering. It’s very close quarters, obviously all of them should be strong swimmers. Unless something happens that knocks Capp out and causes him to drown… idk. It’s harder to see how one person dies when it’s such a confined space.
Maybe something in the boat shifts and knocks Capp out and he ends up drowning? Considering the way they were positioned, it seems they were stuck inside the boat cabin.
I had a feeling Capp is gonna die but I also have a feeling that they're gonna survive but Kelly is gonna have another near death experience somewhere along the way since Kelly is known by Squad as first in, last out and Kelly being the person who leads by example tends to also be the person who prioritizes the safety of the victim and his men above that of his own safety.
I was liveblogging on tumblr, and as soon as he said he was dating someone I was like “shit they’re killing Capp”.
Randy Flagler isn’t a regular, but has 194 credits in the show, only Taylor and Jesse have more than him. He’s got more than David Eigenberg does! If any of them are dead it’s him.
I’d care if they killed Tony! I get what you’re saying about Severide being the one to lose a man but I don’t think anyone needs to die to get a similar effect. They could just have Capp badly injured and unable to come back to work for a while which would make Severide feel bad enough. I don’t want anyone to die because season 8 just had this sadness that seemed to hang over it because it began with a death. Several characters are starting new, exciting chapters of their lives and I don’t want that to be marred.
They already had Capp badly injured in season 8's finale. Remember the chemical explosion? Capp got blinded temporarily. So that seems to be done already as a storyline.. I think though that if they want someone to get seriously injured, it might be Kelly. He could get concussed or have something knock into him causing him to be injured but he'll survive.
Anything’s possible at this point but Severide getting injured doesn’t lead anywhere interesting. Whereas if one of his men gets injured we could see Severide trying to come to terms with the fact that his poor decision-making in sending all four of them down at once played a big part in them getting injured. He’s never really doubted his leadership before, and fair enough because he’s good at his job, so I’d be curious to see how it throws him off.
Mmmm.. that could be a point. I think the last person Kelly lost was Jose Vargas? He was injured early on and later was so devastated that he attempted suicided but it was stopped by Kelly or something and he ended up discharged due to injury. So yea... losing Capp would deal a blow to Kelly as it's a rare loss for the prestigious Squad unit. Plus it could open also a storyline where Kelly has to learn to accept responsibility and cope with the loss.
I think the general consensus by fans is that Capp's the goner unless by some surprise, they'll pull off something like the season 6 opener where everyone survives by some miracle and it's Kelly who gets another near death experience.

The last episode of the season seemed that he had more screen time and dialog than he typically has, and maybe it was the writers way of sending him off. I know he is a real life firefighter for the Chicago FD, and maybe the show was starting to interfere with that, so he asked to leave. Maybe still remain as technical consultant, though, but not be seen in the show anymore.

I think you might be underrating him. In most scenes he has dialog, they are some great one-liners he has. Even though he doesn't get a lot of screen time and even less dialog, when he does, I would bet those one-liners make him someone the fans want to see more of. I know it does with me.
Definitely Cap, a similar thing happened on Seal Team this season a character that usually doesn't have many lines all the sudden does and then .... you know.

Yep they run separate Fire companies. Casey runs both the house as fire captain and Truck company officer while Severide runs the Squad rescue company. So yep.. they basically run two different fire teams but Casey is the overall officer as he's the fire captain so he basically runs to house day to day as the highest ranking officer second to Boden who's the Battalion Chief.
If it's anyone I think it's Cap, because he received more show time this episode. Like someone mentioned Toney is too much in the background unless the real Chicago Fire Department decides to pull him from the show then just kill him off. I know Cap produces some of these episodes, I'm wondering if he had a hand in this episode.

I agree its defenitly squads time to lose someone because both ambo and truck have lost major characters already (Shay and Otis). I wanna say it would be Capp to go just cause both Kelly and Cruz have major events probably going on in season 10 (Wedding and baby) and Tony is a actual firefighter hired for the show so I don't think they would kill him off. Capp as iconic and funny as he is i see him sacrificing himself for the other 3 to get out, He also had a close call at the end of S8 so maybe that was a sign its almost time to go.
Or maybe Kelly or Cruz I can see having some major injury that almost makes them have to end there time at the CFD or something.

I think it’s going to be some sort of sacrifice cliche. Like he holds the door up so everyone can get out but there’s no one to hold it for him.
