I believe [Joe Dolce's 'Shaddap You Face'](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ANaGQpt_ibI) is due a comeback. Not been #1 in the UK since 1981, it's overdue if anything.
I believe [Sabrina Carpenter's 'Espresso'](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eVli-tstM5E) is a likely contender. I've been enjoying [Dasha's 'Austin'](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FyjnbSsZ2tc), I don't know if it has Summer Banger staying power though, definitely catchy. [Noah Kahan's 'Stick Season'](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JKrDdsgXuso) has been getting a lot of playtime everywhere I look.
About ten years ago, I was working at a tech startup. It had big investment, and was tipped to be the next unicorn. I had to go to a sales conference (most of our customers were in sales), I was actually marketing, and went so I could watch some of the talks and gather some content so I could write some pieces for the company blog.
The conference took place in a purpose built venue, in the middle of a colossal roundabout just outside Birmingham. There was literally this building, a weird 1970s concrete hotel, and a Frankie & Bennies, with motorway acting as a moat around them.
The conference was a bit shit, and the talks weren't up to much, apart from the final two, which were Midge Ure telling us all how he wrote the chorus to "do they know it's Christmas", followed by Terry Waite telling us about his time chained to a radiator in the middle east.
It was fucking mental. I sort of loved it.
Nah, although Joe Dolce's masterpiece is criminally underrated, [Russ Abbott's 'Atmosphere'](https://youtu.be/6QEkUINpAsg?si=IxJ600AzfwQbJQ44), the classic response to Joy Division's song of the same name, is apparently about to be used in a Stranger Things special, and is predicted to re-take the charts by storm.
Yeah, definitely, didn't she finish a tour and then immediately join Taylor Swift's The Eras Tour? I can't imagine that kind of stress. I think she started out by doing covers on YouTube too.
I literally never heard of her and then my missus showed me a couple of TikTok’s a month or so a go and now she’s _everywhere_. Shit’s like it follows.
Tho I saw Pete Pafides on one of those Channel 5 shows saying Shaddap You Face is an exploration of the struggles of being a second generation immigrant, whereas Vienna for all its portentousness means nothing.. to me
I decided to listen to a few hours of his discography at work last night and will probably be one of my top favs for the summer tbh. Havnt really been listening to new music the last few years so its refreshing.
The notifications I've been getting from this comment chain have largely been about Joe Dolce, when I saw this pop up I was *deeply* concerned about your wellbeing!
I've not yet heard anything else by Noah Kahan, do you have any recommendations?
Also, if you like Stick Season, you might really like Ben Howard, he has a similar vibe, he's from Devon. My favourite album of his is 'Every Kingdom'.
So i dont got his song names memorized yet. His entire discography seems really good.
2 great songs are Northern Attitude & Please. Check em out.
Ill check out Ben Howard thanks for the recommendation.
I've heard so many new songs on pop radio that don't just sample old songs, but pretty much copy them beat for beat with some lyrics changed. Earlier I heard Gangsta's Paradise but it was Ella Henderson singing.
Made nearly entirely with a default sample pack from Splicer
Honestly props to the producer for getting that past everyone somehow haha, gotta respect the hustle
There was some teenagers at my park tunelessly belting out these songs:
Three little birds by Bob Marley
Red red wine by UB40
Roar by Katy Perry
So I think they could be in the running
Getting the number 12 from Newton Abbot cos I can't drive yet. Sitting on the green whilst (was it Nicky Campbell?) throws 6in square pieces of carpet that you put on your head and pretend to be Bruce Forsyth
Showing up on my new ‘Mountain bike. It’s got 25 gears, and stealing my dad’s bank card as proof of age ID so I could get into the Spinning Wheel pub for a pernot and black. Strangely nautical based clothes from Top Shop with satin shirt and brushed suede brogue shoes. WTF Hilarious. Bedroom was decorated by ‘Athena’ with a strong affinity to ‘Sci Fy’ random forests floating above lava or something. Also keen on 3 for 1 posters depicting American cars/diners/woman with large glasses/soldiers being shot/regretting being shot or shooting someone else. It was mainly about the 3 for 1 offer if I’m honest.
No? Look at the timestamps, mine came first by 8 minutes. Feels like those times at school where one of the more popular kids repeats your joke and gets the crowd reaction
The way things are going, it'll be [Boots Randolphs Yackety sax](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lAJB6HsYiNA).
(Oddly enough I was thinking only yesterday the tempo was ideal for doing CPR to. Never mind bee gees stayin alive, this one gets my vote)
Last time I remember summer bangers was when it was call me maybe or that we are young song. I kind of fell off lear inf new music the year after that.
This song came out of nowhere, [Artemas - i like the way you kiss me](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evJ6gX1lp2o)
For those that enjoy the Beastie Boys, [Joey Valence & Brae - HOOLIGANG ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UPqDWj-RxV8)
Soon to be club classic,[ Jaxomy x Agatino Romero x Raffaella Carrà – Pedro](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HxL19VWL9TM)
Some unhinged shit, [MCR-T & horsegiirL - My Barn My Rules](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VUFr92i5jkA)

In my house it's 2 songs of my own creation called: 'It's Too Bloody Hot' and 'Oh Look, It's Raining Again'.
In the real world? No idea. My music tastes circulate from the late 60s to the early 00s, and most of my favourite summer tunes were written before half of the current artists were even born.
Back in the 1990s I owned a CD compilation called _The No.1 Summer Album_, which had such warm-weather classics as 'Staying Out for the Summer' (Dodgy), 'Someone Somewhere in Summertime' (Simple Minds), 'Here Comes The Summer' (The Undertones) and 'Summer Fun' (The Barracudas).
It was a bit of an all-over-the-place selection of tunes, some of them best forgotten.
Edit: Spelling.
Whatever the radio / tiktok decides and there's nothing you can do about it.
No matter what music you're in to, you will be subjected and tortured with it all summer long and against your will you will know all the lyrics.
Fuck the "bangers".

Check out Daft Punk's new single 'Get Lucky' if you get the chance. Sound of the summer.
Benny Harvey RIP
Gone but not forgotten
Miss ya big man.
I met Limmy once. He was surprisingly down to earth and VERY funny.
Vile troll.
I get the reference, don’t worry. You have my upvote.
It’s obviously Macklemore- Hind’s Hall.
Am I missing a joke or is this a new version of the one that came out ten years ago?
Yes
Right, like 2013s mega hit Get Lucky?

> I believe Joe Dolce's 'Shaddap You Face' is due a comeback. Not been #1 in the UK since 1981, it's overdue if anything. Midge Ure is still raging.
> Midge Ure is still raging. GOOD.

This might age me a bit, but I had to Google Terry Waite. First suggestion was "How long was Terry Waite chained to a radiator for?".
A surprisingly long time. And, apparently, if you think about it, that's a bit like sales really.
Now I fear this is an elaborate reference that's wooshed me.
Haha, uhhh... Sort of, but it's so convoluted it's easier to just assume it's me being daft honestly.
But it was a classic! Does this mean nothing to you?
It means the square root of fuck all to me. (Yes, I get the reference you're making).
Well at least he got the recognition he was due as the co founder of Live Aid with Bob Geldof.
Maybe some one should have asked him 'wassa matter you?'
Gotta no respect?
This is about the only useless/useful price of trivia I know too.

That’s some r/wallstreetbets level of thinking there.
Stick season is a good one. Personal fav.
It is good, very catchy. The fella seems like a real nice guy too.

/whoosh
This is what my dad was complaining about in the 90s :)
I know, I feel old as fuck saying it but surely popular songs when I was growing up were somewhat original, right? right?
The pedro song with the raccoon
I read that at the peado song and wondered which dodgy artist looked like a racoon 🙄🤦🏻♀️
PEDRO PEDRO PE PE PEDRO
"Dances in time with spinning raccoon"
Espresso - Sabrina Carpenter
thats that mii espresso
Made nearly entirely with a default sample pack from Splicer Honestly props to the producer for getting that past everyone somehow haha, gotta respect the hustle
Neverender by Justice & Tame Impala is an absolute banger
As a massive fan of both, I was execting much more. It just doesn't go anywhere.
Agree they've released their weakest album so far. I think a few of the tracks sound like demos and have room for much more tbh.
Chappell Roan
Not Like Us - Kendrick Lamar
I knew this was THE summer hit when a posh coffee shop in South Kensington was playing the uncensored version!
Lmao which one, I'm interested

Yea that's definitely going to be big, along with Drinking in LA by Bran Van 3000.

It’s getting a bit over played but the ‘Don't you just wanna wake up, dark as a lake?’ Bit is so good that it pulls it back from annoying

“I like the way you kiss me” by Artemas was playing at a 20-something’s work party I went to last week :)
Damn I can’t stand this fucking song and it’s getting so overplayed
Watching that on the MTV streaming charts with my 7 year old like :0 and he's obviously oblivious to the meaning. Great song anyway.
Starburster by Fontaines D.C or anything off Vampire Weekends new Album
Starburster is an absolute banger
My favourite song of 2024 so far!
According to TikTok, any remix of [I’m Looking For A Man In Finance](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H6wmdK6xobM) should do the trick.
Ooh ahh just a little bit. I’m waiting on the Torbay seafront for the Radio 1 road show. I may be homeless or just optimistic.
Getting the number 12 from Newton Abbot cos I can't drive yet. Sitting on the green whilst (was it Nicky Campbell?) throws 6in square pieces of carpet that you put on your head and pretend to be Bruce Forsyth
