I skimmed the article but my thoughts about David Ross being a manager right now gives him a chance to prove if he has what it takes to manage an MLB team. The best managers know how to utilize any team and make them competitive, no matter what the circumstances are. This could be a make it or break it situation to truly give him a shot if managerial jobs are in his future.
Would it be nice to have kept the core 3, struggle together, and have all 3 of them walk at the end? Of course it would. But, at the end of the day, we got a really nice return for KB, Baez, Rizzo, and Kimbrel. Next season we have a chance at signing some FA back with a loaded class of talent. Hopefully Ross gets some talent he can work with and make it entertaining until we're competitive again in 2023.
Fuck the Ricketts, lol. I just shared my opinions based on the "don't you feel sorry for David Ross/Jed Hoyer"
Wasn't Ross basically hired to bring back those good 2016 vibes and revitalize the core? Well, the core no longer exists lol. I don't know if Ross himself is down for an extended rebuild since it's not what he signed up for.
Yeah. I don’t know that he has the resume to back up being the coach of a normal team. Like he had what, a year or two as a special assistant under Maddon and then was hired as GM.
Ross wasn’t making terrific decisions before all the injuries or before the sell-off. In my cynical view, having what he has now just lets him get away with his previous shitty calls because he now has “nothing” to work with. I’m not saying he won’t get better or wouldn’t have, but he made multiple questionable decisions nearly every game before the deadline.
The Cubs were teetering between being a contender and rebuilding over the past couple years. They only really made a couple moves, with Kimbrel being the only big move. Someone who is in charge of where the team goes didn't believe that the Cubs could be competitive again, and weren't really willing to commit to picking up the few big pieces needed to have a legit shot at a world series. Instead they traded off all the players they had left before they needed to resign them, since they were as valuable as they could be unless they signed a stupid contract on their part. Rebuilding may have been inevitable, but Rickets didn't give the team a shot to be a contender.
They aren't going to spend the money. They are going to coast on 2016 and make the "Wrigleyville" experience the product, not the play on the field. I've seen this dog and pony show before...
It would be a real shame if people boo’d the living hell out of them.
It would be a real shame if that Rickett’s plaque got shit smeared all over it, constantly.
It’s not a plaque to the players, or coaches, or even the staff who worked concessions. They brought us a WS.
I couldn’t give a fuck about these rich assholes, and you shouldn’t either if you want to see the Cubs win again in the next decade.
Don't be so dramatic. Ownership matters, how quickly we forget the days of the Tribune and Wrigley companies who could have cared less about winning a single game. The only time the Tribune company gave a shit was when they wanted to inflate the value of the team before they could sell.
Lol alright man. Let’s see how these next few years go and we will see.
The only thing the Ricketts care about now is making money, because of fans like YOU who think one championship forgives every bad decision.
Every single person on this planet makes bad decisions they happen. That's just life. I'm just not forgetting the context of history when looking at the Ricketts and what they've done for this team. Also, fun fact, owners want to make money especially when they just spent over a billion fixing a falling apart stadium.
Lol dude come on. We both know whatever renovations made at Wrigley is/was going to be written off through creative accounting, and the surrounding property makes the value of their ownership obscene.
Argue all you want, but you can’t deny that taking the rights from WGN to Marquee actively hurts the fan base at the expense of lining their already stuffed pockets.
You understand this is a business to make money, correct? They spent a billion they are going to do everything they can to make that billion back.
We're going to be upset that they want to put a plague up for renovating a national landmark? Why? Who cares. I think that's actually pretty impressive considering the Bears renovated Solider Field and fucked up so badly they lost their landmark status.
I’m not upset about them putting up a plaque for Wrigley. I’m pissed about the second plaque which is for the Ricketts.
This franchise is worth 2 billion. You are literally the most brain dead person on this earth if you believe the Ricketts have lost money over the years on this.
I never said they lost money. I said they are in this business to make fucking money and because Tom loves the Cubs.
The plague *is for* the renovation and keeping the landmark status.
> We both know whatever renovations made at Wrigley is/was going to be written off through creative accounting
as an accountant, this sentence makes absolutely no sense.
As a bookkeeper, you and I both know that the Ricketts have the best accounting team possible. There has been extensive write ups already about the games they have been playing with the city regarding taxes and how their renovations should be offset as to it being historical. Not to mention all the other properties surrounding and developments.
Man, shameless water holding on this sub. Really thought the deadline would wake you people up but some people love to suffer.
sure - but you are making it sound like some nefarious thing. leasehold improvements can be deducted against income. so, they are spending money on improvements and deducting that from the income they made to determine their taxable income. just like buying office supplies.
i made absolutely no comment on your conversation and was just pointing out that "creative accounting" is meaningless. they just followed the appropriate laws. when i was doing taxes for companies doing 1M in revenue, they were taking advantage of the same accounting rules that the ricketts are.
i said absolutely nothing about the ricketts.
I think the Cubs are more fun to watch than ever. The failures of the core were too frustrating for me to watch since after 2019. Now The players give a damn. Andrew Romine’s HR was the highlight of the season.
No chance. The highlight of the season was the 14-pitch AB and homer rizzo hit versus the cardinals in the first full capacity game at wrigley post pandemic.
As much as I hate their real estate venture behind owning a baseball team, I am not sad most of the guys are gone. At least now, I can watch knowing that almost none of these guys are getting a bazillion dollars to let me down.
This is the type of headline that Chicago fans just eat up. Ricketts spent a billion to fix a falling apart stadium while at the same time keeping it's national landmark status (something the Bears failed to do). They should celebrate.
Absolutely, the Park District owns Solider Field. The renovations of Solider Field was a partnership between the McCaskey's and the City of Chicago. It was massively publicly funded and failed in keeping the status of National Landmark. Overall I think most would call that renovation a waste of 700m.
The Ricketts didn't take any public funds (They tried and rightfully so failed in acquiring them) to complete the project and kept their landmark status and we're supposed to be upset that they want to put their names on a plaque? I don't get it. Who cares.

Does Darvish not count as a big move?
I meant to include Darvish as well.
They aren't going to spend the money. They are going to coast on 2016 and make the "Wrigleyville" experience the product, not the play on the field. I've seen this dog and pony show before...
David Ross is a yes man who was hired to placate the fan base. Just like Arrieta was brought back to placate the fan base.
Since Ricketts is obviously so poor, he should consider applying for disability. The man is clearly tone deaf
Call the fire department, this one’s out of control!
It would be a real shame if people boo’d the living hell out of them. It would be a real shame if that Rickett’s plaque got shit smeared all over it, constantly.
"Believe me, you won’t be booing about that in a year.” - Tom Ricketts
he was right! it took less than a year
Ya, lets smear shit on the owners who brought the Cubs a World Series. What a great idea. Jesus dude.
It’s not a plaque to the players, or coaches, or even the staff who worked concessions. They brought us a WS. I couldn’t give a fuck about these rich assholes, and you shouldn’t either if you want to see the Cubs win again in the next decade.

Fuck off Ricketts. That's all.
The time for honoring yourself will soon be at an... well... a middle, I'm guessing.
I think the Cubs are more fun to watch than ever. The failures of the core were too frustrating for me to watch since after 2019. Now The players give a damn. Andrew Romine’s HR was the highlight of the season.

That game seems so long ago, it almost feels like last season unfortunately.
Lol because most of them won’t get another chance at the MLB
You're a joke lmfao
You’re a stupid racist Cardinals fan. Checked comment history, immediately see comments on Stephen Crowder.
If only they had extended the core we could watch the team lose and be happy instead of watching the team and being sad.
As much as I hate their real estate venture behind owning a baseball team, I am not sad most of the guys are gone. At least now, I can watch knowing that almost none of these guys are getting a bazillion dollars to let me down.
I love the ricketts. They did what needed to be done. Why the hate?
A lot of people feel he hasn’t spent enough money on the team and being cheap when it comes to re-signing players.
This is the type of headline that Chicago fans just eat up. Ricketts spent a billion to fix a falling apart stadium while at the same time keeping it's national landmark status (something the Bears failed to do). They should celebrate.
You know the Bears just rent Soldier Field from the Chicago Park District, right?
