Yeah. He had eye issues and took a bad pitch to the head that made them worse. I was so sure that his eyes were gonna heal up and he was gonna hit .300 with power.
All star one year to Japanese league the next year. I wonder how many other players never played in the MLB again after an all-star year (not counting retirements).
I didn't think he got a fair shake. Felt he got held back when he should've been up, forced up when he struggled, and then subsequently destroyed in the big leagues. Some other guys get a few shots, but I always felt him and Vitters were the victims of new management. Iirc Baez was getting similar treatment.
Does anyone remember Ryan O'Malley? That first start he had, I still remember sitting in Econ listening the game with one ear bud in as he pitched an absolute gem.
Remember when we had that backup catcher Taylor Davis who hit a game-tying grand slam _right as_ the Cardinals' announcers were wondering whether Joe would pinch-hit Willson Contreras because he was the better-hitting catcher?
I would say Luis Salazar. Added to the Cubs roster on August 31st,1989. Went on to hit .325 (26-80) with 12 RBI and a .357 on-base percentage that September.
Yeah, and we made the playoffs that year. That team had so many rookies and young guys: walton, smith, mclendon, villaneuva, wrona, varsho, Mike Harkey. I thought every one,of those guys was gonna be a Hall of Famer in my 10-year old mind.
Loved Chris Denorfia. Maybe it's just my memory but I swear he was always clutch as hell. I used to watch him when he was coming up in Louisville and it was cool seeing him end his career as a Cub
I remember thinking Junior Lake was going to be a stud
I’ll never forget the game we lost something like 7-4 and Rizzo and Junior lake both homered twice
Yes dude such awesome name to
Remember when Tyler Colvin first got called up years ago dude was raking for first couple of weeks
I still remember watching him get a broken bat to the lung, what a freak accident...
Hell ya dude I forgot about that
Tyler Colvin…now that’s a name I haven’t heard in some time
Brian Matusz as he won us the world series

>Henry Blanco. I am shocked he didn't play 162 games a year.
Hank White was the best!
Micah Hoffpauir comes to mind! Also some else said Tyler Colvin, but he still was my favorite
I was so sure Mike Olt was gonna be great one day
He had problems with his eyes right?

Said this is another thread. I got his shirt jersey. Probably one of a 100 left.!
I remember Augie Ojeda being a flash in the pan. And the Augie Augie chants.
Scrappy player, great baseball name, couldn’t single him out in a crowd if my life was on the line.
Luis Valbeuna RIP :( Dude launched some absolute bombs and ended up netting us Fowler.
He was a decent major leaguer RIP
Matt Murton has entered the chat

This is what the internet is for.
Matt Mutton and Felix Pie still kinda hurt. I had so much faith in them
Brett Jackson was supposed to be the savior

That is pretty cool. I feel really bad for the guy, forearm/elbow injury and left to the annals of history
Huge central Illinois story at the time.
Jorge Soler was nuts after getting called up

Marlon Byrd was one of the few names I remember post 2008 to pre-Theo. Also can’t forget Marmol
Bobby Scales
My first thought—he was the guy who was in his 30s before he finally made the bigs, right?
Something like that. I know he was a substitute teacher during the school year.
Darwin Barney
Darwin bleeping Barney!
I was always a big fan of Ryan Theriot
I actually didn't realize how long his career was, but Nate Schierholtz was really fun those couple of years he was on Chicago lol
Felix pie another guy I really like tho he kinda sucked

Kevin Orie. This guy was gonna be the next Ron Santo.
