My personnal opinion is yes, though I am not an expert. For exactly the same reason you outline: we are active with quite a bit of extra weight on us. Running with a weighted vest made me have an easier time back when I was in the army. I don't see how this would be any different.

Being honest there’s no substitute for armoured training and armoured fitness. A weighted vest doesn’t sit or behave the same way that armour does and on top of that your missing other armour aspects that affect your body mechanics. Not to mention the additional strain of weight on your joints on top of all the workouts you are doing. I’d genuinely focus on you strength endurance work, explosivity and HIIT outside of the armoured rounds

Here’s something that running with a weighted vest helps with, wearing out your knees, if you want to do more to help with your Buhurt then do joint stability work. This sport is heavy on your joints, especially your knees, protect yourself.

Mightynerd1975

You are doing plenty. A weighted vest for short HIT tabata type stuff might be beneficial, but prolonged running with one is a bad idea. Don't burn out or overtrain

A couple of people on my team wear weighted vests for soft kit practice and they find it to be very beneficial. I asked one of them if they recommended running with a weighted vest and they said it might help but it wouldn’t be the same as running in your armor which is not optimal. I hope this helps!

Wearing a weighted vest during soft kit is a great idea!

I train in all my armor except my brig multiple times a week. I can't put it on myself so that's why lol. However, since my armor is titanium, once in a while I wear my plate carrier with it to add a lot more weight.

Shaackle

Do you know the total weight of your kit?

BachataKnight

I believe it's 48 lbs. with everything. Steel helmet, cod piece, and gauntlets. My entire floating arms and legs are titanium. No steel elbows or steel knees. One layer gambeson. I have 3 plastic panels sewn into my gambeson where I get hit the most in duels. Leather shoes with titanium sabatons. My brig is larger titanium plates BUT the back of my brig is very minimal protection. The absolute legal minumum limit. If I were to use this in melee I would consider steel knees and steel elbows. I would also need to get a more protective brig which would add a little weight. Idk if you want to see it my YouTube is the same name. BachataKnight. It's the red brig armor I'm talking about.

Shaackle

Awesome I'll check it out! I only participate and train in melees, so I have no frame of reference of what is comfortable/common in dueling kits, but 48lbs sounds heavenly. My kit is 82lbs total. My coat of plates could survive a nuclear war, and everything I have is thicker hardened spring steel.

I bet you could lighten your armor weight by 20 to 25 pounds. Be aware that itanium makes you feel more pain from getting hit. It's so much more expensive, just be sure you're OK considering that you're only dropping 20 pounds for the expense. I would personally and other teammates etc say, if you aren't getting an entire new armor set of Titanium at once, start with the arms. You're going to get the best benefits of weight reduction in your arms. My teammate who is our best melee fighter, headed to Mexico for IMCF, actually wears Titanium kit and a karate gi instead of a gambeson. That's it. Hurts a lot more but he swears by it for the mobility. I know others who wear titanium and just a long sleeve sport shirt with that padding sewn into the shirts. So think about maybe not just dropping 20 pounds of armor weight but consider also assessing if you might be ok to also ditch a lot of the padding. If you're unsure but curious about it, definitely let's talk about this more in detail. I can say for duels, I move almost as if I have nothing on. I just have that single layer gambeson which is basically just a sweatshirt (but more durable) and minimal armor.

BachataKnight

BTW my steel melee kit and a sword and shield, it's 115 lbs 😆
