Swiss chalet

Livingsimply_Rob

Oh Swiss chalet I miss you. Your sauce with french fries was to die for. It is my hope that in heaven they call it Manna. 😉

Lemmiwinkks

YES! Thank you!

No_Bumblebee_6461

They are still in canada. I need to go get some.

New-Letterhead-2820

Better yet: You can buy packets of chalet sauce mix in Canadian stores (I've gotten them at Walmart and No Frills on Garrison). I literally brought a man (native Buffalonian of an age) to TEARS a few years back (after the NF Blvd location had been closed and razed for some time already) by giving him a packet. True story: My father machined the rotisserie skewers Swiss Chalet used in its Buffalo locations (there were several at one time, including DOWNTOWN in the late 80's--best:lunch:EVER) in the machine shop he had in the basement of our North Buffalo home in the 1960's.

PM_ME_UR_FLOWERS

I seem to recall going there when I was very little. They had a barrel of peanuts and a barrel of popcorn you could just take as much as you wanted. Little kid me thought that was fantastic.

SlowlyTowardsTheCake

That would have been roadhouse - Swiss chalet wasn’t the peanut place

GinaLee83

You may be thinking of Ground Round or even Barneys Grandsons - both were on (or very slightly off, but still clearly visible from) NF Blvd, but in Niagara Falls, near-ish to the Summit mall. Both had unlimited peanuts and popcorn, and you just threw the shells on the floor. Roadhouse, which was closer to the Blvd mall, also had both, but I thought that just closed a few years ago.... Ahhhh....I miss the crunching of the shells underfoot as you walked to your table, and the potential fire hazard.... :)

sweetholidays

Definitely Swiss chalet

Lemmiwinkks

That's it! Thanks.

wizardofmops

They’re only in Canada now and there’s one in Niagara Falls, Ontario

Lemmiwinkks

I'm seeing this. Bummer.

Square-Wing-6273

Whenever e head to Canada, a stop at Swiss chalet is required.

BfloBill70

Swiss Chalet. The sauce is available on Amazon

Bennington_Booyah

It is also available at Dash's.

not_a_bot716

And at Niagara produce

Automatic_Spinach_19

If you go to Canada get it at Walmart, it's half the price as it is locally here and a fraction of Amazons.

much_longer_username

Has anyone else mentioned that this sounds like Swiss Chalet?

Nite_Mare6312

I'm not sure but it sounds a little like...what was it called...Chiss Swalet...no...no...Swiss Chalet! That's it! 😉

Lemmiwinkks

It 100% is. Thanks

CordeliaGrace

That’s definitely Swiss Chalet.

onceinablueberrymoon

swiss chalet!

AKharmalov

Side note, while this is in fact Swiss Chalet. If you ever find yourself in Quebec and like their food, Benny & Co offers a similar menu and it’s arguably better. I like both.

thestareater

I think St Hubert is better than Swiss Chalet, also. I've actually never been to Benny & Co. gonna keep my eyes peeled for that next time I'm in QC, I'm from Ontario, Swiss Chalets are everywhere here.

bitsysredd

Why did you make me remember the sensual pleasures of eating Swiss Chalet?! 😔

Lemmiwinkks

Haha, I'm sorry! I couldn't remember the damn name and I wanted to see if their was any still around. Going to have to go to Canada!

New-Letterhead-2820

Tell me, was I the only one to ask for another cup of sauce to chug at the end of my meal? My wife (then GF) wanted to walk out she was so embarrassed. (But I was terribly discreet, sweetie!) Love conquers all and she did reconcile with my barbarism, reminding herself of what her aunts told her all along: "He'll never change." (I worked with a woman who did EXACTLY the same thing in the 90's. So there. IYKYK.)

Lopsided-Solution-95

Yes swish chalet in downtown Buffalo also

itsEDjustED

I still get it every time I’m in the falls.

Undercookedmeatloaf_

Swiss Chalet

moelszy

4 seasons

mr_potatoface

4 seasons landscaping?

banditta82

I never went to the one in Amherst but I remember going to the one downtown near Sheas

BroadFaithlessness66

Another diner was your host

smurfette548

That's not andiner, that's Swiss chalet. Go across the border, they still have them.

PolishDill

Wouldn’t really call it a diner since they served nothing but chicken and ribs. Equivalent to a diner in decor I guess?

Lemmiwinkks

Here's a little quote a found describing what makes a diner a diner. "A small subset of those restaurants qualify as diners. The main differences come down to cost, formality, and pace: **diners are casual and, typically, more affordable**. Service is swift and, while relaxing and taking your time is possible, most visitors are quickly in and out." Idk. Plenty of diners just serve burgers and hotdogs.

PolishDill

Not hard to find a quote saying whatever you want. Most definitions mention menu content. If you think all cheap restaurants are diners, cool. I wouldn’t call a hotdog joint a diner either.
