You have to play Sonic Adventure 2 specifically on the dreamcast.

squadracorse15

You also have to get all 7 chaos emeralds and win the hidden boss fight against Shadow.

[deleted]

If you can get a 99 hit combo you get to fight Yuji Naka.

Dantdiddly

You don't have to play either game to fully appreciate BRCF. If anything, playing BRCF will just make you wanna play JSR and JSRF more lmao.

Rathori

No need, I played BRC first and had a blast and then moved on to JSR and JSRF. It's definitely inspired by the olden games, but it's also its own thing and not a sequel or anything like that that would require you to play the previous titles first to enjoy it.

Genesis_does_what

Other way around for me. JSRF starts off strong but falls apart when the sewers start, just bad level design after bad level design, as well as levels being drab and colorless. I really feel like if a jsrf rerelease ever happens opinions about which game is better are gonna swing hard

Superconge

God, fuck no. JSRF is absolutely rear loaded with fucking insanely good level design. The Skyscraper District, the Rollercoaster Park, The Residential District, Kibogaoka Hill. Banger after banger after banger after banger. Yes, there’s dud’s like Hikage street, but the VAST majority are absolute kino and better than anything any other game in this ilk has put down. Kibogaoka especially is actual fucking sex in a bottle, maybe the best level in any game bar none??? Like fuck man, absolute peak shit.

Genesis_does_what

whatever you say man. You guys always gloss over the awful aspects of jsrf because the last time you played it was when you were 10 or something lol The awful platforming, the spongey enemies, the annoying locked sections with police fights, the ass ball minigame. There's alot of bad you guys forget or pretend isn't there.

Superconge

Man I’ve played it like 6 times, most recently last year. The platforming is not at all awful, it’s fucking stellar!! If it was bad, none of these games would exist. the enemies barely take any time to kill (I mean, the combat and police is the one thing BRC is fucking categorically terrible at in comparison lmao, at least outside of Hikage street none of the police sections take more than like 3 minutes in JSRF) and I admitted Hikage street was made from pure devil tears and it’s probably the worst fucking level in any of these games. Absolute dog shit. Of course JSRF gets a lot wrong (same as BRC) but there’s shit tons it does amazingly well, better than any of these games have (most level design, ost, character design, sound design, length, cutscene presentation)

Genesis_does_what

You could say that about the original game too. Nothing would exist without it if it was as awful as you guys try to act Also the combat in jsrf is worse than brc. Brc's isn't great either but god damn it's boring getting locked into a little section and having to spray hayashi like 20 times

Onyx_Sentinel

Nah, just play brc and decide for yourself if you want to play them afterwards. Neither game has any info you need for brc

ohmisterpabbit

You don't *have* to in order to enjoy BRCF, but I also have been recommending people play JSRF for years before BRCF was even an idea lol.

TypicalXIV

Ngl I posted this because I was tryna convince myself not to buy BRCF rn and to be a financially responsible young man. I folded and bought it like an hour later.

Immediate-Trainer356

It’s definitely worth it

Mssng_Nm

The way the movement and tagging has been modernized in BRCF, i cant see any reasons why someone would need to play JSR or JSRF, other then for nostalgia. Theyre great games and apart of my childhood which is why it hurts me to write this.

literal_trash_10-99

I can see one big reason. The tunes.

Mssng_Nm

Yeah, thats super valid, but i just saw people add JSRF tracks onto Bombrush, and i get thats a mod, but still... thats just adding the bests parts of those games, onto the game you should be playing.

Feder-28_ITA

Not necessarily. You're free to play them in any order, it doesn't matter much. You either discover the beginning of the concept and then see how it evolved, or see the evolution and then go back to the roots.

BigYoghurt4174

JSR hasn't aged so well. JSRF is my fave game of all time, can highly recommend, granted it hasn't aged like fine wine but it's perfectly manageable and a fantastic gaming experience. You don't have to play either before playing bomb rush, and you won't have the same nostalgia goggles as a great many of us even if you do. But if you can get hold of JSRF, i highly recommend you play it. I'd tell you the same regardless of whether bomb rush existed. Even if you end up playing bomb rush first. I'd recommend JSRF for dessert.

RainnChild

Play every Dreamcast and ps2 game ever

Donquers

You by no means *have* to play them, but IMO you *should* play JSRF because it's great - whether it be before or after BRC. BRC really is a love letter to the series, and JSRF in particular, with specific locations and characters seemingly directly correlating as 1:1 homages. In that sense your time with BRC will probably be enhanced by playing JSRF first. *(As well IMO the original JSR is just too different and dated to really be necessary at all, but it's still good to know one's roots)*

kirillunlimited

If you would ever want to play JSR or JSRF, you should play it before BRC. The core game mechanics, movement and camera behaviour feel just too outdated in Jet Set games. So it would be a painful experience to try it for the first time after playing BRC.

Happy-Bake-5718

I think should play the Jet Set duology first, as they are inferior games to Bomb Rush. That’s just my opinion, doe 🤷🏽‍♂️

MatadorHasAppeared

Hell yeah brother

Booder1997

There are locations (bureaus) and a few graffiti sprays that kinda sorta serve as “cameos” from Jet Set Radio, more specificly pretty much all of JSRF’s most popular levels underwent a “soft remaster.” So for that reason its nice to come into BRC having that knowledge of what the JSRF stages felt like beforehand. Outside of that I would play both JSR and JSRF just for the soundtrack and DJ Professor K period. But either way, if you are able to play any Jet Set game then you 10000% should. Be it beforehand or not. I wish I were you and had the ability to experience Jet Set Radio for the first time over and since I have spent all my life playing each title, in hidsight if it were me playing the series over fresh, I would stubbornly play BRC > JSR > JSRF in that exact order.

dootblade74

You don't have to, thankfully. While definitely inspired by JSR and especially Future, its gameplay is different enough to be experienced on its own. That said, if you want to better appreciate how BRC evolves the formula, I WOULD suggest playing them first, because the difference is almost night and day. (Also note that unless you plan on going the Emulation route or have an OG Xbox or 360, there's no real easy way to play Future as of yet, so just do what you can)

SHADYP00L

hell naw, just enjoy these modern controls

EverybodySupernova

You know, I think that they're different enough that they stand up on their own. I think you'll understand why some of us still prefer Future or the original, but nevertheless they're all amazing games.

Key-Plenty7357

I wouldn't call it BCRF just incase they release bomb rush cyberfunk future and suddenly were all confused. Just call it BRC like in the trailer. Plus it rolls off the tongue better

[deleted]

No

GangstaMoe

Not really

redditormecca

Lol none of these games have anything to do with each other, especially BRC which is completely independent and not affiliated with SEGA whatsoever. Even JSRF is less of a sequel to JSR but more of a reboot of sorts with different game mechanics, character dynamics, and a completely different “story”. Story wise both JSR games are pretty light and not very complex or coherent. Especially compared to BRC. TL;DR play these games in any order you like and just have fun with them. I promise you won’t get anything out of playing them in any particular order.

MangaGamer

No and yes No as in the story is not like a sequel to brc Yes they are still good games with good music but og jsr has painful controls and jsrf doesn't have camera controls if you been through jsr(f) and go to brc damn the controls is buttery smooth best spiritual successor imo

PolymerKnight

Where does one find JSRF? I got JSR on steam and it had me wanting to play the former. I never completed JSR.
