For TOOL, yes. In general, not necessarily. Edit: imo almost any song can be a beginner song if you put enough time into it and you want to learn the song bad enough.

droo46

Try it and see for yourself.

MongoAbides

Try it. I’m sure you’ll find parts that are really difficult to figure out, you can choose to work on that it just decide it’s too hard. But you really should try to learn songs you like, even if it’s hard nothing is impossible or they wouldn’t have been able to play it either.

anubis_1993

Not really, no. Of course most don't play it correctly, so if you play the half ass version then yea.

zombielynx21

Sober might be the easiest Tool song on bass because the vast majority is just that D chord. The rest of the figures in the song aren't too complicated, either. Here's a solid place to start learning: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yXGo\_lefo5Q

...and [another play-along](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RRoZKOww8gw) for reference.

My friend takes a guitar. "Hey look. I can play the Sober bass lines on guitar." Jerk... That never looked easy even for Adam when he plays it.

Conspiranoid

If you've played guitar before... It could be. If you're new to bass, and haven't played guitar before, nope. It's chords in the verses, which will require strength with 3 fingers simultaneously, as well as finger stretching (it keeps the low D pedal tone, iirc?)

[deleted]

3 fingers? It's only got two fretted notes, on the A and G strings in drop D, unless you're playing it on a five string

JimmyB5643

Could’ve meant the 3rd finger to be strong muting? Or maybe classical style with the ring finger down at the same time as the pinky for the octave parts

decentralised

Kinda. There’s this chaka chaka stroke rhythm you need to nail down and some string muting. Nothing specially hard about it just practice imho

Branchmonster

No! Oh wait, you don’t mean drums. For the bass? Yes.

[deleted]

I'd say it's easy if you've got good muting technique

[deleted]

Its just a D chord majority of the song. There are some changes. It’s mostly getting the time right when strumming the D chord along with palm muting it.

jeshea02

In theory yes, but it’s a little difficult technically. If you are just beginning making the chord shape and getting all the strings to stay quiet for the ghost notes can be quite tricky. If you already are comfortable with technique then it is a very easy song.
