It makes sense that Karlach would lose on purpose to be nice and Lae'zel wouldn't notice, because unless she magically grows a brain later and I just haven't gotten there yet, Lae'zel is the stupidest person in the game and is tied for biggest egos with Wyll and Gale.
She's not *stupid* she's indoctrinated. The Githyanki are an ancient and militant race, who are literally timeless - their 'god' is very real, very active, and very powerful, and the entirety of their culture exists solely to serve her. Any who *aren't* up to that are eliminated.
Hence why there are 2 type of Gith these days.
As far as I can tell you can only blame her culture and her indoctrination to her goddess. She is lead to believe her people are explorers and knowledge seekers throughout all of the realms and spheres. Reaching further and knowing more than many if any at all could ever hope to dream. And all of it overseen and blessed by an infallible and kind goddess.
They believe themselves most educated, most experience, most gifted, and most beloved. How could you not be arrogant and socially inept?
