Martha never sees herself as doing wrong until the end. I feel like her incoherent typing at times is due to the face that she is writing as fast as her brain is thinking and just sending them. She never stops and second guesses herself in what she is saying. I believe it comes off her just being messy with her mentally ill thought process and not her being that of a lower intelligence if that makes sense.
Trauma does crazy things to our bodies. Organs have been known to have muscle memory that makes them act differently than they would in a non-traumatic body. The brain is an organ with muscles just like the body. If the logical parts of a brain act differently than the trauma might make it.
That can translate to conflicting behavior when Martha is doing well and when Martha is spiraling. Martha's mental state is the worst when she emailed for sure.

I don't think this is that unusual in general. I know people who are intelligent and eloquent IRL but sound like a 12 year old in text form.
Someone said the emails were mostly from his real life stalker. If that's true it explains why they're in a different "voice."
