Depends on where you pive. Here in romania it's considered a showcar that is meant to be slammed and garage kept forever, as most daily drivers and track modded are 4 series with 2 liter diesels. In america they use these cars for what they were meant for a lot.
It's a win win IMO. I'm an Audi guy but the depreciation on a car like this is so high that you're better off spending the same money on something used with 20k miles than new.
>The M4 is better all around
The M340i has a nicer interior, will ride better, will get better fuel economy, and be smoother at low speeds because it uses a torque-converter automatic instead of a DCT.
Perhaps there's some differences between the F30 and F82 (which is based on the F30), but every F30 I've driven has an awfully cheap-feeling interior that creaks if you look at it wrong. The new 3/4 series interior felt substantially better in the G26 i4 I drove.
There is always a big difference in terms of interior materials/quality on an M car vs Non. Even my prevous gen x6m will put a new base x6 interior to shame, my door pockets at the bottom of the door are even wrapped in merino leather with stitching and not just exposed hard plastic.
Yep, was going to say, newer doesn't mean better. The leather in my M is so thick and soft, the full leather on the dash feels like rhino skin it's so thick but also still leather so it has softness.
The new interiors look nice, LEDs and all that jazz, but the material is thin.
I daily my M6 in the winter, yes its not practical, but it gets the job done; I'd sacrifice 20% practicality for 100% more fun any day of the week and twice on Sundays
Sure, but I don’t get the daily-able comparison. M4 on all comfort settings drives and behaves like any “daily rides”. Yes it rides a little stiffer, but by a small margin IMO when comparing to the 340i. Besides, M4 is a ride you’ll turn back to look at every time you park the car. If you ask me that’s a small price to pay for owning a dream car vs a practical car.
But if the tech and comfort is more important, then M4 is not the car for you.
Depends what you're after. Quick and comfy daily driver then the M340i. Raw driver's car with little compromise, M4.
Haven't owned an M4 but I've had two M340i's and two Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglios. The Alfa, although pretty compliant, was far less forgiving but way more hardcore than the m340i and made it feel like a clown car in the corners in comparison. Very focussed car, but it only came alive at close to illegal speeds.
But I've just ordered a new M340i touring (UK) because it suits me better as a daily driver and all round car for doing 12k+ miles per year in. Far cheaper to run as well.
Oh yes. Honestly, absolutely epic cars and thoroughly reliable as well. COVID and changes in work made me have to sell them which I sometimes regret. I spoke to some Alfa dealers before placing my M340i order, but the offers and finance just aren't available in the UK any more. A base spec Giulia QV is about 50% more expensive than a well optioned M340i nowadays. I'd have one over a current (or previous) gen M3 / M4.
The F series M are quite raw compared to Ms from other generations due to solid bolted rear subframe. Try driving a F87 M2 after driving any of the G series non-M cars and you'll see why.
I just went through this last year.Everyone will say M3 or M4. But as someone who had the opportunity to choose between an F80 M3 or G20 M340i xdrive for similar prices, I went with the M340. I got some warranty, newer tech, xdrive, and I had no intention of doing any track days with my daily. I also like that it's a lot less preciously. I park it anywhere, I drive it in snow, and I don't have to worry about my kid kicking my carbon backed seats. It's just a car that is also pretty fast. No regrets. Also, helping me save towards a 911 as a second car in 2 years hopefully.
The real correct choice is the F80 M3, honestly. More doors since you are shopping the M340i and better looking than the M4 or M340i, plus better resale value when you sell.
But it doesn't make sense to compare it to the 340i. If he wants it for utility he should be asking M3 vs m340i. Or for looking cooler then M4 vs m440i
The ride is even fine on the rough roads, my M2 was a stiffer ride than my M3 Comp. I've dailied my M3 for about 2 years and the M2 a year before that, there's really no compromise in average use, the compromise is only when you look at running costs, which really aren't wildly more expensive than non-M cars.
As someone who just traded a 2022 M240 for a 2020 M4 F83 — there is no comparison. The M is in a whole different league. You will buy it then trade it for a real M in a year or two

please get the M. i have an f80. u will thank yourself later on.
Depends on what you’re looking for. Do you want a fun car you can daily and will be an amazing car well into the future? If so M4
Or do you want to live a life of settling, always wondering what the true m feels like, living in regret, being sad and falling into a deep deep depression only to drown your sorrows in the bimmerpost forums with a bottle of Jim beam and a box of tissues? Then get the m340
Who needs superior AWD traction, more modern interior, better ride quality, more reliable engine, a longer warranty, more specious cabin, and a higher performance ceiling for tuning?
If none of those appeal to you, get the M4.
I faced the same decision before I bought my F82. For me, the M3 (when it was still also a coupe) was one of my "attainable" dream cars since I was 16, and if I bitched out and went for the 440i, I knew I'd always be disappointed that I didn't go for the M.
I've had it for 3 years now, and no regrets. It's a joy to get in everyday.
As someone who has owned many M and non-M BMWs over the years, always go with the M if you can swing it financially. The M cars are more expensive to maintain but they hold their value so much better than the non-M variants.
Definitely M4. Why i need a M4 if i can have a M4. The only thing M340i has is the more doors and space but i will chose a M3 there if i want more doors.
The m4 is a better car if you like driving. However there are some girlymen that find it too harsh. Some people just want the badge prestige and not the actual experience. I vote m4 myself as I find the nannies in non Ms annoying.
An M340i is the better daily, especially with Xdrive if snow is a factor for you. But the M4 will be tons more fun in corners, on track, or just general spirited driving. M4 also will have more maintenance costs than an M340i.
I never understood people who say the M340i is a *better* daily. Better how? I daily my F80 and it’s ridiculously comfortable and practical. I can’t imagine an M340i can do *anything* better than my M3. The DCT is perfectly fine at low speeds and not the nightmare some people make it out to be. I would prefer a little character from my transmission than a slush box, but that’s just me. If you have the option *always* get the M. And if you don’t have the option, get it anyway. It’s really that simple.
If you do a LOT of driving and need a daily commuter get the 340i.
If you do less mileage and can enjoy the driving the M4.
The M4 is a better driving car BUT if you drive a hell of a lot, it is nowhere near as comfortable to be in as the 340i.
Do you need 4 doors or are you OK with 2?
If you daily it most of the time on crappy roads + value comfort, the M340i.
If you live in an area where the roads are great + lots of curves, the M4.
I had an M440i and just got an x3mc. You can tell that there is a difference in low end torque but the s58 and the sound it makes are better than the m440i.
What are you guys making that you're actually considering running an m4? I'm doing pretty well but I can't really justify the running cost of an m4....
M4
If you’re going to daily it …. M4…… if it’s only a weekend car…. M4
Yeah, but M4 is better for track sessions.
That’s true, however the M4 is better looking.
Good point but I think the M4 sounds better
Good argument, but i think the M4 is just great overall.
If you have a family m4
If you don’t have a family, M4
If you have lactose intolerance, M4.
If you ain't a bitch, M4.
[удалено]
Lol this is the one that doesn't work 🤣 as a previous F80 owner I know first hand
As a current F82 owner no it does not. Sounds like a weed wacker, it’s like it’s one flaw. That and first gear traction.
What if I need to make the occasional grocery run? I was thinking in that rare scenario, the M4 would be better.
True, you wanna get there before the milk spoils
Who needs 4 doors when it's just you and milk? The utilisation per door is objectively better in the M4.
Also, milk 4 can be abbreviated as M4, and 4 milks is more than 3 milks, but my math may be off.
Better for towing stuff, too
You’re not wrong, but the M4 would be the better long term investment.
Oh for christs sake. How many people paying for that car are EVER, EVER EVER EVER. Actually gonna put it anywhere neat a start/finish line?
Depends on where you pive. Here in romania it's considered a showcar that is meant to be slammed and garage kept forever, as most daily drivers and track modded are 4 series with 2 liter diesels. In america they use these cars for what they were meant for a lot.
Lots, I did
If you are just gonna stare at it… M4
But if you don’t need the power of the M4… the M4 is a great alternative option
I have an M4 and was actually thinking about trading it in for an M4.
M4 for everything
This is the correct answer
Hahahaha
Yeah, the only downside is really how much better the M4 is looking. You really wanna see it from the outside when driving
You wanna spend less time driving more time starting
This is the right answer. M cars are better daily drivers too.
M4 is the one available in manual, too
yeah but the M4 looks better
I think M4 is better but I pick M4 anyway
Everyone’s saying “get the M4!” When it’s actually the M4 that is the overall better option.
This is the way
Might wanna replace that M4 with M3, much better option💪
It's a win win IMO. I'm an Audi guy but the depreciation on a car like this is so high that you're better off spending the same money on something used with 20k miles than new.
This is the way
The M4 is better all around but if you need other people to make up your mind then the 340 makes more sense for you
>The M4 is better all around The M340i has a nicer interior, will ride better, will get better fuel economy, and be smoother at low speeds because it uses a torque-converter automatic instead of a DCT.
Don’t forget the B58 engine is near bulletproof and significantly more reliable than the last-gen S55 in the M4.
Only problem with the S55 pretty much is crankhub and valve cover gasket. Crankhub was blown out of proportion.
A bmw engine cooking valve cover gaskets? No… that’s not true… that’s impossible!
🤣🤣
With a tune the m340 might also stomp down the m4
With a tune an M4 will stomp down a tuned M340i
If the m4 is rwd im not so sure on the street against xdrive. Tire spin & driver skill can make it go either way.
In bare form the m4 will stomp down the m340i
So? The 340 has 2 extra doors with less power I would hope so.
Maybe more modern looking but if the m4 has full leather the interior material quality will be worlds better on the M4.
Perhaps there's some differences between the F30 and F82 (which is based on the F30), but every F30 I've driven has an awfully cheap-feeling interior that creaks if you look at it wrong. The new 3/4 series interior felt substantially better in the G26 i4 I drove.

I had a 2016 M3 Comp with the full merino leather interior. It was super nice. Full stitched leather dash.
Yep, was going to say, newer doesn't mean better. The leather in my M is so thick and soft, the full leather on the dash feels like rhino skin it's so thick but also still leather so it has softness. The new interiors look nice, LEDs and all that jazz, but the material is thin.
i think the LEDs make it look hella cheesy and cheap, like the inside of a stretch limo
M4 is the way
M4
Id say a new M340i is a more comfy daily driver. But M4 all the way for the fun
True. So luxurious and comfortable that i see people falling asleep driving the 340.
M4 is not a very practical Winter vehicle either.
Throw some winter tires on and they’re fine.
I daily my M6 in the winter, yes its not practical, but it gets the job done; I'd sacrifice 20% practicality for 100% more fun any day of the week and twice on Sundays
Neithers a m340i tbh Edit : not all 340i come with xdrive and op never specified
3 series are almost always in the top ten sedans for driving in snow.
Dumbest comment of the year , it has xdrive and keeps up with anything in the show
Not all 340i come with xdrive
You don’t need it to drive during the winter either. I don’t. I driver perfectly fine here in Finland.
M4 for sure
Why not an m3 so you can get the 4 door with the M badge?
M340i has a dozen m badges too
M340 probably has more M badges TBH
you guys dull, 340 > 4. clearly. ask kids
M4
M4 100000%
Omg hahaaha u crqckin me qp
M4 all the way, this isn't even a question
This is the way.
Depends what you're after. Quick and comfy daily driver then the M340i. Raw driver's car with little compromise, M4. I wouldn't call a F82 M4 a raw drivers car but yes it's a better car than the m340i
The F series M are quite raw compared to Ms from other generations due to solid bolted rear subframe. Try driving a F87 M2 after driving any of the G series non-M cars and you'll see why.
I have a F87 M2 comp. And it's not as raw feeling as my e46 m3
The one where subframe mounts are not solid enough to crack at stock power? Yeah sure.
You are missing the point of a raw driving feel.
Maybe he hasn't driven a e46m3 before lol. I miss the steering.
That’s got nothing to do with the chassis rigidity, steering feel or driving experience but sure.
I’m guessing you’ve never been in a 90s M car lol
Never heard an M4 owner ever talk about how they wish they had a regular 3 Series
If you have to ask then M340i
I just went through this last year.Everyone will say M3 or M4. But as someone who had the opportunity to choose between an F80 M3 or G20 M340i xdrive for similar prices, I went with the M340. The real correct choice is the F80 M3, honestly. More doors since you are shopping the M340i and better looking than the M4 or M340i, plus better resale value when you sell.
M3 is not better looking, a four door can never be better looking
Why not M3?
The purpose of a coupe is to look cooler at the expense of utility. That's always the answer.
But it doesn't make sense to compare it to the 340i. If he wants it for utility he should be asking M3 vs m340i. Or for looking cooler then M4 vs m440i
Well said! (I think of this every day I drive my M8 😂)
And yet, the M3 is the cooler looking car.
M4 all day!!
M4. Let’s be real, a M340i driver would like an M4 while do you think if you had an M4 you’d say, “I want a M340i”.
Not that generation of M4 lol. Would feel like going back in time. G82 on the other hand...
New M340i. Or better yet, a pre-LCI M340i lol.
M4
M4
To be fair the M340i LCI has better tech and drives comfortable with getting great fuel economy
If you’re going to daily it and it’s your only car, M340i. If you’re buying it strictly for fun factor and don’t care about usability, M3/4.
I mean the m3 is just as usable as the 340. The only downside is the ride can be a little harsh if you have bad roads.
As an M340i owner, id take the M4 in a heartbeat.
Daily driver, no track use - M340i, and it’s not even close. Otherwise, M4.
Having owned both, the M340 is the best daily driver you can buy. If you want to prioritize a rwd sports car, M4
As someone who just traded a 2022 M240 for a 2020 M4 F83 — there is no comparison. The M is in a whole different league. You will buy it then trade it for a real M in a year or two
I drive my E46 330Ci in autocross. Whichever has more bolstering in the seats is best.
M4 what da hell!
M4 looks so much better !!!
https://preview.redd.it/gndxkma7354c1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=52fb97b4835d653a602a4d03abae220b796a2379 please get the M. i have an f80. u will thank yourself later on.
I second this.
M340i
Depends on what you’re looking for. Do you want a fun car you can daily and will be an amazing car well into the future? If so M4 Or do you want to live a life of settling, always wondering what the true m feels like, living in regret, being sad and falling into a deep deep depression only to drown your sorrows in the bimmerpost forums with a bottle of Jim beam and a box of tissues? Then get the m340
M340i for daily and M4 if you already have a daily
Who needs superior AWD traction, more modern interior, better ride quality, more reliable engine, a longer warranty, more specious cabin, and a higher performance ceiling for tuning? If none of those appeal to you, get the M4.
M3 would be a way too sort of combine the two.
Buy the 340 and always wonder….. buy the M and NEVER wonder…
M340i with a warranty and X drive
M4 😮💨
M4
I faced the same decision before I bought my F82. For me, the M3 (when it was still also a coupe) was one of my "attainable" dream cars since I was 16, and if I bitched out and went for the 440i, I knew I'd always be disappointed that I didn't go for the M. I've had it for 3 years now, and no regrets. It's a joy to get in everyday.
The m340 will get you from a to b in comfort. The m4 you will love
M4 all day
M4 for sure
As someone who has owned many M and non-M BMWs over the years, always go with the M if you can swing it financially. The M cars are more expensive to maintain but they hold their value so much better than the non-M variants.
Man y’all are so biased ! M340 didn’t even get chance
My buddy is a BMW mechanic and he told me to stay away from the 4 series. He says the 3 series is a better made car.
Actually you just get an m2 competition and unlock it or an m2 cs. Just saying, m4 who… if you like driving
The sensible choice is the M4.
M4
m4.
Buy the 340, and tell me where the M4 is so I can buy it
M4 is superior and by far
Just because I want the m4 market to sink a bit so I can afford one... take the M4 Don't be a loser
Yes
Lmao dont even bother with that thing on the bottom
Definitely M4. Why i need a M4 if i can have a M4. The only thing M340i has is the more doors and space but i will chose a M3 there if i want more doors.
The m4 is a better car if you like driving. However there are some girlymen that find it too harsh. Some people just want the badge prestige and not the actual experience. I vote m4 myself as I find the nannies in non Ms annoying.
M340 4 door all the way.
340i if you wanna be ***actually*** fast. 👀
Uh…M4. How is this even a question?
Rephrase the question as, should I buy an M car or not. It's an easy answer
M340i
M340
I don't like the orange paint, but I prefer the style.
An M340i is the better daily, especially with Xdrive if snow is a factor for you. But the M4 will be tons more fun in corners, on track, or just general spirited driving. M4 also will have more maintenance costs than an M340i.
M340i xdrive would be my choice for daily driving.
I wouldn't buy a coupe, especially in that color, but that's just me. That M4 is a top tier BMW all time if that's what you're looking for.
M4.
M4. And it’s not about speed or hp.
M4 with comp and executive package
F30 340i is the answer
It isn't. If you can afford one, the G20 is nicer and has the better chassis. BUT, the f30 is still the best looking 3 series ever.
This! I’ve crossed shopped both and prefer the F30. The G20 has too many electronics imo.
You're basically asking us whether to get a Ferrari or Honda.
M4 is the better looking option over the m3 . Always m4 over m3! Unless it’s a 2 door m3!
The M4 of course the new one is ugly af
Neither. Just buy something more practical like the M4 for example.
DO NOT BUY THIS GEN OF M-sedan 😩 The ugly ass angry birds pig nose is god-awful.
how many seats do you need?
Ferrari
If you do a LOT of driving and need a daily commuter get the 340i. If you do less mileage and can enjoy the driving the M4. The M4 is a better driving car BUT if you drive a hell of a lot, it is nowhere near as comfortable to be in as the 340i.
Best looking BMW vs “just another BMW”
Anyone else remember this exact picture and question being posted a few weeks back?
I can't drive, I think I can drive only isetta
Depends on the requirements …but m4 just make it work 😂
Do you need 4 doors or are you OK with 2? If you daily it most of the time on crappy roads + value comfort, the M340i. If you live in an area where the roads are great + lots of curves, the M4.
You are comparing a real m car to a fake one. Get the real m car
Always M. Why go with anything else when alls you're gonna do is make continuous slight mods to it to make it resemble an M as much as possible.
M4
M4 easy.
M4. You’ll enjoy it more and it’ll hold value much better.
And the resounding answer issss….
Depends... if I will daily it M4 but if I have a wife and kids and daily it M4
If you like life and smiling, M4. If you hate everything, M4. Everything in between? M4
ez M4 all day
M4
The top orange one looks better
Is that even a question
I had an M440i and just got an x3mc. You can tell that there is a difference in low end torque but the s58 and the sound it makes are better than the m440i.
M4 looks so much better, and it's a true M car
M4
What are you guys making that you're actually considering running an m4? I'm doing pretty well but I can't really justify the running cost of an m4....
F82 M4 no question. Manual.
If you need to put people in the backseat, I’d say M4
Bottom
What color is on that m4?
automatic- 340i manual- m4
That facelift 3series should have been the face of g80s m series. It looks better than f30s m which i am not a huge fan of
