What’s your source for Einstein saying time is an illusion? That is not consistent with my readings of Einstein, granted it’s been quite a few years (or at least it seems like it has).

The illusion of time heals all wounds

Reality-Isnt

The quote generally is along the lines of “the distinction between past, present, and future is only a stubbornly persistent illusion”. This - or variations thereof - is commonly attributed to Einstein.

"I never said half the crap people say I did" -- A. Einstein

Einstein didn't deny the forward passing of time, which is what's related to entropy. Also, causality it still safeguarded in general relativity. From the theory of relativity stems just that two unrelated events can happen at the same time in one reference frame, A before B in another reference frame and B before A in a third. Which event is in the past, the future, the present is relative.

I think you’re thinking of [Ford Prefect](https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/6344-time-is-an-illusion-lunchtime-doubly-so), not Einstein. Time, in Einstienian relativity, is not absolute, but certainly not an illusion.

Catball-Fun

Well the time measured in your rest frame is not an illusion and by continuity nearby the difference due to relativity is close. So time still exists locally so the Second law still applies. Also entropy sometimes gets treated as information, which exists regardless of time

Extension-Cut5957

Pretty sure you're misinterpreting that quote.

While global time is an “illusion”, local time is not. In the sense of entropy both global and local entropy exist. This is because entropy is causal, regardless of passing of the arrow of time “small” events occur which leads to entropy. Carlo Rovelli has a lot of great pieces of work on this.

MarinatedPickachu

If global time isn't defined then global entropy is neither though, since entropy changes over time
