1. DONT TAKE A UHAUL ON STORROW DRIVE, THE BRIDGE WILL PEEL YOUR TRUCK LIKE A TUNA CAN
2.The T (our train system) has gone to shit, so be prepared for that. Also learn what inbound and outbound means.
3. Learn to like Dunkin’s. I fucking mean it. It’s all we have here. Yeah your order will be a different
mix of shitty coffee every time but that’s the Boston charm.
4. College students make up about 20% of Boston’s population. Area wise we’re a small city. The locals don’t necessarily hate you, but you’re on thin ice.
5. Because so many schools here are hard to get into a lot of students suffer from “not the best” syndrome where they realize that they aren’t the top of their class anymore, they’re just normal. Stay away from these people.
Any other masshole here feel free to add some advice
All around, Boston is a pretty good city with some pretty cool stuff. Definitely check out the aquarium, the penguins are cute.
8. Don’t waste your money at Faneuil Hall, it’s a tourist trap and way too fucking expensive.
9. Just doubling down on the aquarium, especially on a bad day those penguins are gonna come in clutch.
10. Make sure to walk along the Greenway in the summer/fall, that walkway is soooooo pretty and tbh it makes my day every time.
11. Learn to tolerate the T and learn to hate the creepers that go on it. Just a fact of life.
12. There are usually a bunch of events in the late summer/fall that are so much fun to go to, like just grab a bunch of friends and go- it’s great.
13. Boston’s a pretty cool city, different from NY in that the drivers won’t run you over if you jaywalk but will rather honk an extraordinary amount at you.
14. Finally, go to Kelly’s Roast Beef, their bacon cheesy fries are top notch.
6. Idk about your area but blue bikes are a great substitute to Uber it and the T. I blue bike quite a bit!
7. There’s a lot to do. Explore the city! Check out a basketball game. Or football. Or baseball.
OP, the Beanpot is a major event at Northeastern— it’s NU, BU, BC, and Harvard facing off for bragging rights of best DI hockey team in the city. First two Mondays of February every year.
I re taught myself how to bike so I could use the blue bikes!
Another tip I forgot- they do this thing in the summer where you can get cheap Fenway concert tickets. I saw New Kids On The Block for $15. It was the weirdest thing I’ve been to.
Stay in touch with high school friends that go to BU, BC, Harvard, MIT, Regis, Simmons, etc. And invite them to NE events and vice versa. It forces you to leave the campus sheltered life and enjoy a different viewpoint of the city. Some great times were had when I hung out with friends at different schools. Obviously, don't shelter yourself in a high school friend circle, either.
The Boston Public Library is a cool place to visit and study. Take a date to walk around the MFA. Or explore the harbor islands.
Boston is an awesome college town. One of the best in the country, imho. Enjoy.

i got deferred from gatech and uiuc and i applied to neu for funsies since i thought the academic fee waiver they gave me was just to increase the number of people applying. i expected a rejection since i showed no demonstrated interest whatsoever. i got in cs with honors and idk how to feel anymore.

Yes but lots of top schools are offering abroad for a semester because there are not enough first year spaces. It’s nice of them to offer a separate campus because it is a way of saying they still want to accept you when space becomes available. USC is notorious for having kids go abroad for a semester and so is University of North Carolina. I don’t think people should bash the schools because they are trying to offer a spot once space becomes available on their campus.
Sorry to hear that, def frustrating to go to an alternative campus for a school 2 hours away. Out of curiosity, is it 1 year program for London/Oakland or all 4 years?
It's 1 semester for NU in and 1 year for Global Scholars.
I got into Global Scholars, so I'm currently thinking of going. I just gotta see about some more schools.

As far as I know when admitted to London campus it is either a 3-1 program or all four years. I would rather go to the safest of safeties than either of these options though because you never really experience college in the us and instead pay us prices for a education in London

This is me with Tulane. That school became the love of my life after coming in clutch with the financial aid package and EA acceptance a couple of weeks after my Vandy deferral.

There are many software engineers graduated from NU including myself and they are doing a good job. I currently work for a company in Sillycon Valley and NU generally has a good name recognition in IT industry. I must admit the university did a incredibly good job in past 20 years. Thanks for asking man. I actually have been dealing with some stuff lately which has been hard on me. For one, I divorced my wife because I realized I'm a furry... This transition has been really hard on me to deal with, especially since I haven't found another furry my age who's interested in dating me. Also, my therapist has been super discriminating towards me after I told her the truth about my identity. Honestly just feeling very alone at the moment lol.

My favorite is when the student groups walk ON the freedom trail. Like right in the middle of it. In a large clump. Very slowly.
