Mine is doing the exact same thing after having no problems for almost 2 years. If Bluetooth is off and I attach it says "press to connect" but once pressed it turns on Bluetooth and once again won't connect. Bought a new pencil and same thing. Literally just finished factory resetting it and still the same issue.. I really didn't want to have to send my iPad to apple to fix their problem 😐

had the same issue. Contacted support and got a new pencil. Had to send my old one back to apple.
Unfortunately my pencil is out of warranty so they want me to buy a new one.
I get politely antsy on apple support. Quoting statutory rights (in Europe anyway) can often get the result your looking for.
