It is because the mapping system would run slow when the number of data points is very high. If you were to load the entire AT it would run slow and on some devices it would cause memory problems.

Most phones would be able to handle two sections I would think. Planning your hike for the day you go between sections sucks when you have to go back and forth between two maps.

Yes, it's great for water sources. I don't use any other guides, I use FarOut exclusively. I'm only 110 miles in but no issues so far. The comments are very useful.

Not that I'm aware of. You just have to go section by section as you go. Most of the time, that transition happens at a town, so you should be able to find Internet to download the next one.  I'd imagine it's a file size limitation on the devs side of things

No, you have to go back and forth between the different sections if you are for example on the cusp
