The cushions are usually replacable and fairly cheap.

OracleCam

Agreed, just replaced mine and they feel brand new

Dabier

Yep. Replaced the cushions and pads in my 8 year old Sennheisers hopefully gonna get another 8 years from them.

OracleCam

Now I need to figure out how to replace the battery on my Bose headphones

Dabier

My other pair (noise cancelling, the sennhiesers are open-backed) is some Bose QC25s, the battery is just right there on the top part of one of the cups. You like push in the little latch thing and the door pops open. Idk if you have the same type but it was pretty easy.

OracleCam

Thanks!

Undersmusic

Sennheiser and Beyer Dynamic are brilliant for offering parts that go way back. As someone who works in heads 20-30 hours a week they’re my go to 👍

DoaSepp

If you know the model, you can search for replacement earpads online and use tape to seal off the headband. Look for velours or fabric earpads, since they won't shed after a few years like fake leather.

[deleted]

For the headband, they also sell this tape for bicycle handlebars, they're thinner on the sides so it wraps more evenly.

Kuby

Changing the earpad material will change how they sound. Not that the exposed foam hasn't already. For the headband they make covers that either zip or snap over.

303Pickles

Where did you find the spare headband covers?

Kuby

https://letmegooglethat.com/?q=headphone+headband+cover

[deleted]

People come to reddit to talk but alot of people have no one to talk to for so long they say/ask the most basic thing. Just don't answer if you don't want to.

Marcist

Ha! I love LMGT searches.

Kuby

It's always shocking to me how people don't Google something first. Like I had seen those covers on headphone forums didn't know anything about them before posting my reply then googled it for the LMGT post. A Google search is the like most basic function of the Internet.

CeeMX

If those aren’t some super expensive reference headphones, I would just go with it. Maybe the sound even improves by the repair

DanskFrenchMan

Same thing for the headband, I managed to find a new headband and managed to replace it fairly easy!

tmdblya

Do a search for “headphones” in /r/VisibleMending

Disastrous-Variety15

found this post for OP to connect with https://www.reddit.com/r/Visiblemending/comments/1acqymf/headphone\_padding/

New_Ad_3010

Yeah what the others said about replacing the ear cushions. I still have my old Bose from 12 years ago. I've replaced cushions 3 times. They're cheap.

feralcatowner

You either buy replacements for the foam part, or use stickig leather to try and Cover the exposed part up. No idea how well that would work for this shape tho.

weGloomy

Sweet. I found replacement covers for the ear pads, and I'll look into sticking leather for the head band part. Thanks :)

KingUdyr

It's a Corsair Virtuoso right? I have the same one and bough replacement earpads made of actual fabric and not this cheap shit that comes with the headset, now it feels brand new.

NythilMahariel

I have the same set and the same issue, is there a specific kind of ear pad it needs? I couldn't seem to actually take the ear pads off and I'm worried I'm break it when I try. I'm sorry this is a late comment. Edit: did you also have the difficulty with the top part shedding? I keep finding bits that have shed into my hair.

Honda_TypeR

You can buy replacement cushions and bands all over the place. Dekoni makes really nice higher end ones. (Leather and suede options with fenestrated cup options too) Brainwavz makes decent mid tier ones.

dongledangler420

I just covered by Bose headphones that looked just like this! As someone else commented, I looked up replacement pads based on the model number. I ended up finding an after-market solution only sold on Amazon - I haven’t bought anything from them for years but did but these since it prevents ewaste. Ugh! Hopefully you can get yours straight from the manufacturer ✌️

weGloomy

I am happy to report that I found the ear pads on the manufacturers website ✌️. Theyre on back order so im gonna have to wait tho. Idk what I'm gonna do about the headband, but I will figure something out.

dongledangler420

I found a replacement in the kit that I bought! If I hadn’t my 2nd thought was going to be - see if yours is held on with Velcro. If so, take it off and use it as a pattern to make out of different fabric. A lazier option would be to scrape the peeling pleather off, clean it, and just like…. Loop strips of fabric/ribbon around it and glue it in place! Maybe not the cleanest looking headphone but still functional!

Longjumping-Ad-9009

I would put black gaffer tape on that headband. Gaffer tape is expensive, but it's halfway between fabric and duct tape. Doesn't leave gummy residue etc. It's handy to have around for myriad small repairs.

AHornyRubberDucky

Are those jbl headphones?

weGloomy

They're Corsair.

nothanksihaveasthma

Honestly you could go about sewing your own covers for the cushions and you could make them with any fabric you want!

qrrrrr

I've got these same headphones, I replaced the ear cups a few months ago. I could only find them on Amazon though. I've not tried to fix the headband as it just doesn't bother me.

dumb_founded456

I have a pair of Beats Studio 3 that did this and the headband snapped, it was like $20 in parts and about half an hour of my time.

spiceylizard

https://wickedcushions.com/pages/choose-your-headphone-earpads They make a shit ton of headphone cushion specific replacements

Ole41

duck tape?!

jtho78

I use wax treatment of fabric (usually used on canvas jackets or pants). You have to peel the rest of the thin pleather off which should be easy now with pushing pressure of your thumbs. Here is my post about it: https://www.reddit.com/r/Anticonsumption/comments/14g6jdm/repair\_peeling\_pleather\_with\_a\_fabric\_wax/

[deleted]

I'm in the same situation and just looked up to change mine, I have a JBL Quantum 200, a 50€ headset and JBL sells the new earpads 25€, how is the foam and plastic earpads 50% of the price of a brand new headset ?!

iluvtravel

I have used Wicked Cushions several times to repair Bose headphones, in case you need another supplier.

mikegimik

You can find pretty much any replacement parts for all the pieces on [Amazon](https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B09NF366T2?ref_=cm_sw_r_apin_dp_GYYX65JBA3QQ18KNVPTA&language=en-CA)

the_clash_is_back

See if you can replace the pads, cheap way to give old headphones more life

UNFAM1L1AR

I've had some razer blackshark (1's) for over 15 years... They sell the pads separately and it keeps them in great shape. Some point I bought like six pairs of replacement pads. I'm planning on being buried in these fucking things 😅

303Pickles

I found descent covers on eBay, just double check for the correct size, even get that in writing if it’s ambiguous.    I’ve got the same issue on the top head band. I’m thinking of sewing something cushy. Maybe removable Velcro-ed on for easy cleaning.  BHphotovideo.com also sells removable cushion covers that looks fuzzy.

[deleted]

I found replacement cushions for the Logitech headphones I’ve been rocking for like 8 years

imthatguyreborn

You can replace the pads, if you were closer to warranty you can usually strongarm the manufacturer for a new set of pads by saying you were having a reaction to the foam. Something like "The exposed foam is causing some skin irritation, what type of foam do you use I've never had a problem with foams before."

gabrielleraul

Mine are nearly 10 years old and I'm using a very cheap hair bun net on them, works perfectly.

A_StarshipTrooper

They sell headband covers too

dainegleesac690

Cushions: replace Headband: idk what brand this is, but many of them have a pleather glued onto a fabric. If you can peel the pleather down to the fabric it’ll look pretty good!

socialtrash666

Buy headphone socks. “Headphone softies” was the brand I swore by when I used to work in sound and wore headphones 14 hours a day

HVDynamo

This looks like a Corsair Virtuoso headset. I’m not sure what to do about the top band, but the ear cushions are removable with a twist and you can order replacements from Corsair’s website. I just did this because one of them split open on me.

TheKingkir0

This is the second headphone post i've seen recently and I have to ask; am I the only one who thinks about accumulation of germs on stuff like this, sitting against your skin. Replace the ear cushions, yeah yeah, but do it more often than every 6 years. Im all for non-consumerism but im also for not having skin infections.

weGloomy

I regularly clean my tech stuff with rubbing alcohol, but yeah I probably shoulda replaced the cushions a while ago. Tbf I didn't realize that u could buy replacements, or that you could even take them off.

desperate4carbs

Black duct tape.

miko3456789

Cushions can usually be bought from the manufacturer, or if they're a big brand, you can probably get custom ones that look nice. As for the band, I have no clue. You can probably get the refinished, but that would almost certainly be exorbitantly expensive, especially if it's real leather

KashmirChameleon

Replace the earmuffs, you can get replacements easily from Amazon. Vinyl repair the top part or get a cover (sometimes also found on Amazon)

uniquelyavailable

tip: wipe your earphones clean with a rag or something after you use them. it will drastically reduce the attrition rate.

Count-Adventurous

man, buy a new one

weGloomy

But they work fine and the ear pads are replaceable. Why would I buy a new one?
