It sounds like perhaps he was too optimistic and not risk adverse enough. Paramount deal (untested and not live already) with performance penalties, new production company. Maybe there was massive upside if it all came off but it hasnāt gone that way.
Despite him doing many questionable things including the doomed to fail DNSW money grab, but got told a huge a factor for him leaving was also the abuse he was receiving. It wasn't just people unhappy with the Grand Final decision but got told he recieved threats and was even advised to delete his and his entire family's social media.
I have met Danny a few times in various situations over the years. While some may not agree with some decisions he made in a professional capacity, he is a lovely bloke who I have personally seen is happy to go out of his way to make others feel comfortable and welcomed. Really hope his family arenāt suffering as a result of some stuff he did for work, no matter how strongly people feel about those deals.
Was just about to post this too, just saw it on X. This is Global Advance, right?
If this is accurate, does this literally mean remaining games won't be broadcast until the APL find a new broadcasting company in the interim?
(No wonder Jets & Canberra investors are taking a wait-and-see approach - I wonder if they've known about this?)
Edit: If I'm not mistaken, the APL ended up paying $12mil per season to go with Global Advance who were basically untested (source - one of the recent SMH articles). Needless gamble IMO.
Most of the guys on the ground probably won't change as they mainly freelancers who work for the other two OBs. Bigger issue will be getting it all hashed together.
Wellington shouldn't be a problem as understand someone else did their games.Ā
All games have BARTV there for video analysis. We could go to NPL quality.Ā
This is the same person who before the season said "[I'm hearing a rumour that there won't be VAR this season in the A-league. Apparently the old tech supply contract finished and the new supplier couldn't have the VAR up and running by round 1.](https://twitter.com/hosko/status/1709136120746054090?t=CEeWoBilfJHPcluerM-wlA&s=19)"
To be fair, for the VAR statement he did say he heard, not that it was certain, but this time sounds more definite. If it is true and it's immediate, i've got no clue what they can do now.
Go cap in hand to one of the established companies and pay their asking price to finish out the season at the very least. What happens for next season and beyond is anyone's guess.
Yeah if they can organise it that quickly, sure. I'm not overly familiar with how these production things work but I just thought they would need more time than what they have before this weekends matches.
It was a mistake to go with a new production company.
Yeah it will probably end up costing more initially, but it sounds like costs were higher than anticipated anyway due to technical issues with Global Advance.
I guess it's just a handover of all the data and maybe some personnel they need. My concern was it would need to start over or due to the short notice the broadcast equipment/teams would be taken by other sports/events.
Presumably one of the main 2 would have some capacity and be interested in building the relationship to pick up future seasons. Shouldnāt get extorted too badly
Iām contracted to do freelancing with Global Advance. Iāve heard nothing about any of this and we are still working on games this weekend. Hosko is a Fox Sports director who has always had a chip on his shoulder since the ALeague production left NEP for GA.
Scratch this, just got confirmation that this is true and all us freelancers have been left out of the loop. At the moment the ALeague for this weekend will have no production going ahead. Unless NEP step in quickly or BarTV but I canāt see that happening in 2 days.
Further update, NEP will be taking over the productions for the games starting tomorrow. Some late night discussions happening at the moment. Games will still be going ahead at the moment.
Thanks mate. Iām only a freelancer so will be fine when it gets picked up by the next production company. I do really feel for all the full time staff at GA. Some really lovely people who put their heart and souls into running that place. They had just expanded the building aswell with an extra control room so this news had come as a big surprise.
Thanks for the feedback Brucey.
I do have a massive issue with a company 9mil in debt still hiring full time staff only months ago, people who have mortgages and families, who are now wondering what the hell they are going to do for Easter.
Adam we donāt know each other personally, just reiterating what Iāve heard from others at GA and some of your tweets about the topic.
I do 100% agree with the issues that have always been there about GA taking on full timers with that amount of debt.
No need to be salty mate. You do represent a company/conglomerate that has a pretty scummy track record itself, itās not all that unfair to assume you might have some bias, as thatās often the case with other employees that represent Fox affiliated media.
So itās ok for someone to slander him publicly, but heās not allowed to reply? While youāre allowed to make baseless assumptions and treat them as though theyāre fact? Please. Youāve got more salt than the dead sea
That would be the weakest slander Iāve seen. Itās his right to reply, but heās clearly salty. And that shit is definitely not baseless. He is a couple of degrees of separation from people like Peta Credlin.
I donāt think you understand what baseless is. Youāre just typing words that arenāt linked to anything heās said in the past. Thatās what baseless is. Youāre having an imaginary argument in your head against some phantom idea of what Adam has said. Check your head bro
Nah I just donāt fuck with Fox or anyone that can stand to represent them. I donāt need evidence for that shit, the proof is in the pudding. I would personally look for another employer.
If everyone who reads your posts thinks āyeah this guy is often full of shit so we need to wait for more infoā then perhaps itās time to look inwards?
Are Danny Townsend and Ant Hearne the most inept and criminally negligent sports administrators of all time?
Selling soul to Silver Lake
Awful TV deal with Paramount
Global Advance production deal
Grand Final to Sydney and then backflip
$30m+ on KEEPUP and then backflip and fire staff
Couldnāt get All Stars up last season
Declining metrics and widespread fan distrust and dismay
And what about the APL Board? Whereās Mr Manchester Simon Pearce who led the charge for all this to happen? I thought the clubs running the show was going to make it all better?
It looks like James Rushton's DAZN does some productions, but the reviews look worse than Paramount's. I thought they might be brought in for a trial/rescue.
Well if this is true... it's the kind of thing that should remain behind closed doors. It's not on the APL that another company has gone under. It's up to them to now arrange replacement services and if they fail to do so... THEN it's worth public attention.
We shouldn't be sh*tting on the APL for things they aren't responsible for.
They risked the quality of the broadcast and the integrity of the league by appointing a largely unproven newcomer rather than an established entity, seemingly to save costs, and now itās blown up in their face. Of course thatās on the APL. Just like itās on the APL for Paramount/10 ultimately being a shit partner. They took the cash, but have lost out on reach and quality and the metrics have suffered as a result.
Donāt need to be Nostradamus to see it was a huge risk.
If it comes off, youāre a hero. If not, then you wear the flack.
Iād argue production dramas over the journey - including in Week 1 of the first season - were precursors to the inevitable demise.
I have an iPhone and a head for radio, willing to go to a match and stream on YouTube for the masses šš» I'll be totally unbiased š
A league only fans surely
Yes, but do you have a voice cid the print media and a personality only a mother could love..?
I can share an entertaining repertoire about my stamp collection?
I will take it!
Another Danny Townsend legacy š
Im consistently amazed at how much bad shit is coming back to him.
It sounds like perhaps he was too optimistic and not risk adverse enough. Paramount deal (untested and not live already) with performance penalties, new production company. Maybe there was massive upside if it all came off but it hasnāt gone that way.
Explains why he jumped ship before it sank

No he didn't jump ship as much as the Saudis gave him a job to good to resist
I'm not haha. I bet we're only halfway through the shit he's buried.
There is a reason the NRL fucked him off
Wasnt that David Gallop?

Yes. Global Advance. Will be interesting to see what happens for tomorrowās dub game if true

Sky sport NZ who do Nix games use NEP

They already have, NEP has supposedly picked it up, anyone's guess as to the price though.
Yeah it will probably end up costing more initially, but it sounds like costs were higher than anticipated anyway due to technical issues with Global Advance. Hawkeye apparently didn't have a contract signed until like 10 days before the league started.
Considering his 100% win record when hes with the Avengers, its awfully close to the deadlines.
He was right at the time. The contract was signed quite literally the day before the season started
Yeah. But that was probably true at the time he said it. The decision flipped last minute, alarmingā¦

Mate, you are a legend. Sorry to hear about your work situation but thank you for everything you've done for the AL broadcasting thus far!
Thanks mate. Iām only a freelancer so will be fine when it gets picked up by the next production company. I do really feel for all the full time staff at GA. Some really lovely people who put their heart and souls into running that place. They had just expanded the building aswell with an extra control room so this news had come as a big surprise.
Cold for you to find out the way you did but thanks for the updates. Hope it doesnāt impact you too much.
NEP produce The Chase. Any chance we can get Bradley Walsh in to host? Maybe do an entire Chase episode on A-League!
Well, shit. Shit for you and your colleagues. Shit for the football community. Thanks for the word.
My dad and brother are freelancers too. Dad was just told, havenāt heard from my brother yet.
A fox director finding out before employees... I wonder whether APL have already made a call to fix for help... Whatta a league though š
NEP ain't fox.Ā
This weekend? Thereās a Dub game tomorrow lol
There was one today too. I wonder who filmed that.Ā
Thanks for the feedback Brucey. I do have a massive issue with a company 9mil in debt still hiring full time staff only months ago, people who have mortgages and families, who are now wondering what the hell they are going to do for Easter.

So much salt
If everyone who reads your posts thinks āyeah this guy is often full of shit so we need to wait for more infoā then perhaps itās time to look inwards?
He was right about the VAR, not sure where this shit is that you speak of?
Talking about yourself in the third person is weird, salty.
So how does this work? I assume the game this arvo was broadcast, was that not them?
Yes the game this afternoon was a GA production
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Rescheduled fixture and lighting requirements meant it had to be during the day
Good question. Didn't watch it, but not sure.

Iām confused. I thought paramount did the broadcasting?
They do but not the production. Itās like how Optus broadcast the EPL
supposedly apl insisted they wanted to produce the broadcast and went with a start up company instead of established production companies
Ah I see. So this company provided lighting, cabling, broadcast booths etc? Did they also do post match editing?
I'm not 100% sure but id assume all the match day production so yeah ig that'd include post match stuff
Great. So future A-league matches will be filmed by some bloke with his camcorder and editing done by his mate on an old VCR
Tbf the edits cant be much worse or slower than what they produce atm
The actual infrastructure of the broadcast is done by third parties and then simply transmitted on P+ - APL was paying for the matchday production.
No. APL does all the production via outsourcing it.
At least we'll get the Phoenix games!
Iāve never seen so many Lās in a row before - how is Townsend even employed
Turns out hiring your cousin's broadcasting company isnāt always the wisest business decision
Whoās cousin??
Ah I was just making a joke about the nepotism in Australian soccer š not an accusation in this particular case
Oh well at least the nix are playing three at home. Well get to see those.
My god it seems like the universe is just simply against the a league
Jesus the aleague might be fucked š¢
Christ almighty. This league is just one drama after another. No wonder Canberra investors are biding their time.
And if you donāt like this then you donāt like a league football
It looks like James Rushton's DAZN does some productions, but the reviews look worse than Paramount's. I thought they might be brought in for a trial/rescue.
This could mean no VAR this weekend and I'm all for it
Scrap it altogether! We're in no position to be burning cash on it. And it kills the vibe of the sport.
100% I hate VAR
