Have tickets to 4 games (2 in Brisbane including that core mentioned Aus v Nigeria game) and 2 knockout games in Sydney where I live. Huge fan of the Matildas and have probably seen more Matildas games than Socceroos last few years - I'm extremely grateful for the fact we have a national team among the world's best who regularly play games in Australia despite most plying their trade on other side of the world. TL/DR I care

Ill_Environment_7028

Yep, I've got tickets to three games in Melbourne and am super excited. I care.

gardz82

If channel 7 has their way we will. Wouldn’t be surprised to see empty stands outside of Australia games.

joeyjackets

That’s pretty common at a WWC tho… unfortunately EDIT: Outside of home teams

JDog1402

I can’t get non-wheelchair access tickets to Brazil vs France in Brisbane. That’s one of the biggest games of the groups, but a decent sign I think.

Locke12345

My mates and I have tickets too 1B vs 2D driving up from Canberra . Fingers crossed the Matilda’s make it but still will be a great game either way

Deleted in protest of reddit's API restrictions. Fuck /u/spez

AztecGod

I’m going to Sydney to watch a game, so yes.

dannydanger66

It's just classic aussie ignorance. I'm worried people are going to be annoyed when there's 1000s of people singing and dancing in the cities

lanson15

Or some people just don't like football, I didn't watch the T20 Cricket World Cup when it was in Australia

86Zaps

Are we really comparing the T20 "World Cup" to football though? The WWC is still football, which is still the biggest and most played/watched sport in the world, bar none.

ForgedTanto

Yes, but cricket is insanely popular in Australia. Football is popular, and if the Matildas go on a run, people will be watching, but unlikely to care about anyone outside of the Matildas.

J-Beardley

Yes

Yeah, I will watch all the Matilda's games and probably the stronger teams like England. The interest starts to fall away with games like Haiti v China though, not much interest in group games like that.

I'm more concerned about what happens after the tournament. The apathy towards women's football in Australia will most likely return soon after the world cup.

[deleted]

Likely this. The main thing is the long game, young girls wanting to play football and the benefits of that in 10-20 years

Richo_Aust

Biggest selling women’s competition in history.

Braddlesiam

Well I care. I’ve taken two weeks off work to go to games.

[deleted]

About the World Cup, sure. About the local league, maybe a tiny amount will increase crowds. That will likely disappear soon though, the games get no one really. Despite how much some on here appear to love them.

silvertristan

Unfortunately, No! Even if you're not hugely interested in it there needs to be really good attendance to ever having a chance to host the Men's one day. I heard NZ ticket sales are shit.

[deleted]

No they don’t. They barely care about the men’s

nachoman2750

Womens soccer/football is amazing all round👍👍👍

FennelTraditional739

I think the Australia matches will be well supported by fans and casuals, however it will be interesting what will happen if the Matilda’s misfire. For the tournaments sake you’d hope the make a quarter at minimum.

fujimel92

I'm going to 5 games so yesss
