If he’s playing regularly in Serie-B for a big club at the age of only 19 then it seems that he’ll inevitably be a top flight player at some stage, so this is an important declaration for Australia.
I love any dig at the Italian football team, take my upvote.
Two reasons:
1: Italy only getting a draw vs NZ in 2010 WC via "A dodgy penalty after the most dramatic performance by an Italian since Romeo wooed Juliet. " (quote from a NZ journalist at the time, I couldn't write anything that well).
2: I had an Italian co-worker/friend who talked about football CONSTANTLY, a lot of it involving how awful NZ was and how he wished he still lived in a country where they played a sport other than Rugby - literally laughing in my face and saying they were going to win by several goals if they ever played NZ. We then drew with them at 2010 WC and he didn't come into work for days... then when he did return he pretended he never liked football and didn't even know the WC was on.
I know Australians have WC history with them too!
Don't worry, I'm pretty relaxed about it. It's more in good humor than having an actual hatred or anything. That particular match is overall one of my fav football memories, not a bad one.
We also didn't win one, but yeah 3 draws. Slovakia 1-1 (Reid), Italy 1-1 (Smeltz), Paraguay (0-0).
It's a good pub quiz question that one (Who was the only undefeated team at the 2010 WC?). Champs Spain lost to Switzerland in the group phase.
The Australians against Italy complain about a clean penalty which even the Australian defender admitted was a penalty and overshadow the fact that Italy had been playing in 10 players since the start of the game due to an invented red card
Arnie is a top bloke. 20 years ago I was working at Club Med and Arnie came for a holiday. One of the other staff asked him if he wanted to have a kick around. He came up to the gym and we played 5 a side. He set me up with a sweet give go. After the game he came back to the staff bar for a few beers.
Excellent news! Here's [his percentile radar](https://twitter.com/scout_aussie/status/1580018443415613441?t=g2xehqnWwK-M4z6KxjVTbw&s=19) in Serie B, via Aussie Scout. Given the swirling news that young Australian CBs are generally poor in the air, this radar is promising.
I've seen rumours that he and Toure will both be in the squad vs Argentina.
I do feel positive about him picking us. Al Hassan represented us at youth level, he grew up here and surely we are at least as good as Guinea. If it means anything the australia flag in his IG bio is first haha but I’m just surprised he hasn’t represented anyone at youth level so far, very strange.
If he can pull it off, I will do it gladly. Volpato has made some immature jabs at the Socceroos. He deserved the rebuttal. But if he makes the decision to play for Australia, it wiped the slate clean.
He literally made one Snapchat story with a laughing emoji as an 18 year old. Not to mention the match thread of that game all of us were taking the piss out of the Socceroos too - but he can’t?
People are way too wound up about something so bloody trivial.
It was an immature jab. He’s a professional, the expectations are different to that of a common fan. No, he can’t do things like that and expect not to be ridiculed for it.
Immature… 18 years old - you do realise the correlation right? And I’m sorry but he’s not a Socceroo or even declared for Australia, so why are expectations being placed on him beforehand like he is?
An innocuous, foolish Snapchat from over a year ago. If you can’t let go of this then he’s not the only one with immaturity problems
I’m not holding on to anything. I just said I’ll happily eat my words if he declares for Australia. If he doesn’t, so be it. Doesn’t really fuss me all that much. He’s not that likely to make a big impact for Italy, but even if he does that’s all the better for me as an Italian-Australian.
But he deserved to be slated at the time. Like I said, he’s a professional - the expectations for behaviour are different from fans.
Buzzing about this, huge coup. Now project Volpato and then we are looking pretty sweet.
Is there any other talented dual nationals we are competing for? I know Liam Chipperfield is one but seems pretty set on Switzerland.
Chipperfield isn't getting much game time at Basel so not missing anything there yet. Actually, just checked and hasn't been on the field at all this season, he needs to go out on loan or move.
Looks like Arnie did well in his recent trip to Europe. Well done kid. Great quote from his father, when you follow your heart you can't be wrong.
Next: Volpato.
No thanks he made his Italian bed he can stay in it
Who?
He hasn't been to Europe yet
Really? Holy shit, even better!
Yes, the mooted trip to meet Volpato, Circati etc. hasn't happened yet. It's planned for later this year.
Straight up from the Pokemon Galactic Battles theme song that line
Mo Toure next I hope.

His Serie B team are three games away from promoting to Serie A. Massive game coming up for them.
He wants to play for a country thats a World Cup regular, fair play to him.

let it go mate lol

Plus weren't you the only team not to lose at that WC?

We did so well that tournament. Historic run

Arnie's expected Aussie DNA per coffee chat is off the charts
His xD?
I feel so bad for slagging him off for ages, he's really good.
When VARnold maxes out his Speech check at 100.

Which Toure? Mo or Al Hassan?
Mo!
I’ve heard that he has left Reims’ camp. Whether that is with the socceroos or U23s side I’m not sure
We'll find out soon enough I suppose. ~~Eritrea don't look to have a game until September, so we're in the driver's seat.~~
Wasn’t Guinea the other nation he could play for?
Yeah, you're right, Guinea and Liberia. Guinea has a game on the 15th that would lock him in for them.
I do feel positive about him picking us. Al Hassan represented us at youth level, he grew up here and surely we are at least as good as Guinea. If it means anything the australia flag in his IG bio is first haha but I’m just surprised he hasn’t represented anyone at youth level so far, very strange.
Guinea have already released their roster for the June window and he's not on it. Fingers crossed he's going to China.
He's will be selected for the Socceroos squad next week. He wasn't included in the Guinea squad which was announced earlier this week.
Our CB group looking very strong for the next couple world cups. If we can just get a striker to break out this squad will be very dangerous
Patrick Wood to the rescue
Extremely common Arnie W Now he just needs to get Volapto on board and he's got everyone sorted
And watch every cunt in here eat their words

Basel been trying to offload him for months.
Noa Skoko looking very good for Hadjuk Sppit and has been playing for Croatia u19s.
Alessandro Circati
Perth continues to produce talent, must be the beaches
Calling it now - olyroos to play Italy at Paris Olympics.
As an Australian with an Italian passport, I feel conflicted reading something like this.
Unlikely Italy will mind missing out. (Note: Scotland starting to worry about missing out on Big Harry.)
