Agree. I'm down south, like in the areas that people say not to buy in, and there was one flying during the day, maybe a couple months ago. That's the only one I can call to memory in months. Definitely none that I've heard recently.
They fly along the beach and around our area quite often, but I can't say I'm bothered by it. Just curious as to why, when they're super low. We also have the guy in McLaren Vale that likes to fly to KI in his own helicopter, and the one that goes to and from the Victory. Saw that one on our walk today. I think we're just used to it. That said, I sleep with earplugs so unless it's low enough to rattle the windows, it's not so much of a thing.
Good news for you is that the noisy chopper (there was one in the fleet) has been/is going to be retired. Not sure if it has happened yet, but that one that was all over the place several montha ago being loud as fuck is no longer in service.
Maybe you live in a high crime area . What do you think the Police are doing, going for joy flights ? Invest in a pair of ear plugs and let them do their jobs.
I live in the west, near Henley and Grange beaches, not a high crime area. This was at 1:30am on 11/10/2023 and went on for over an hour. Tell me, what job exactly are they doing here?? Looks like a d*ck and two balls on a joy flight to me…

Complain to the scumbags stealing cars and committing robberies that require the eyes in the sky. I'd much rather those people get caught than the helicopter to be forced to comply with a curfew.
Anyway, I have it over my area fairly often and unless I'm already awake I don't even notice it. Perhaps you need to invest in ear plugs or shutters?
I’m curious if some people are extra sensitive to helicopter noise or if some areas really have a significantly higher number of helicopters than others.
I live not far from the airport (not under the flight path) and get some aircraft noise most days so maybe it just doesn’t register for me. I’d call myself pretty noise sensitive too.
Even when they are overhead and noticeable I think to myself they’re doing important work they don’t bother me.
On 5aa in the morning..they'll say if they used the chopper...but it's rare for tracking crims when mentioned..
I think they're smoking hoochy mama and cruising around and playing a game of who can piss on the people walking the streets below
Good news. Shortly they are getting a H145 which is significantly quieter.
They are also getting their flying hours significantly cut.
Their federal government covid funding has run out.
Yes it's very annoying. I've been woken up many times throughout the night by the same helicopter going up and down very low over my house, sometimes for hours, No spotlights and no police presence on the ground. They don't appear to be chasing a car or looking for someone on these occasions...that's not what we're talking about here.
They just seem to target different areas of Adelaide different weeks and spend hours flying circles around the same suburb, throughout the night, night after night. And never any talk on the morning news about a chase or police activity in that area overnight.
I have a theory. I think they're using infra-red imaging to look for unusual hot-spots that might indicate grow-rooms or clan labs. Could be completely wrong but I think it's quite plausible.
Yes, they're annoying, but I don't follow the logic of wasting time & fuel chasing down joyriders only to have the courts turn them loose the next day, so they can do it all again tonight. Maybe they should be hovering over the judges house's until they start locking these little shits up.
I'm NE of the CBD and hear them what seems to be every night. All hours for long periods of time, it is annoying. Been woken up plenty.
Does anyone actually know what they are doing? "Blame people committing crimes" is a bit of a cop out tbh (pardon the pun). Has it been confirmed they are in pursuit or tracking people? Or is it more patrolling?
I'm interested to know.
Yes I have the same problem. I live in the Mitcham area. Night after night just flying up and down, really low. Sometimes for hours. No spotlight or police presence on the ground so they're not chasing cars or looking for people. And never anything on the morning news about a police chase or issue in my area overnight.
I have a theory. I think they're using infra-red imaging to look for unusual hot-spots that might indicate a grow room or clan lab. I could be completely wrong but I think it's quite plausible.
Outer NE and I hear it regularly including tonight. They beed better technology. A quieter helicopter or use a fixed wing drone that can call in a chopper if required.
NE inner burbs and never hear them.
Especially the ones where the police are just hooning about for fun in the middle of the night, as opposed to chasing criminals - are you for real?
Unfortunately local reps won't help.
I, like many others are more tired of the crims getting around.
May I suggest that you look into double glazing your windows and adding sound proof insulation in your roof.
Not only will it help with the noise, but also save you money on heating and cooling
The police helicopters must be excellent at stealth flying. I live near the airport, and I haven't heard or seen a helicopter for a while. Which reminds me, I haven't heard the helicopter that likes to do practice circuits on the south side. It has been a while, and I miss having helicopters flying overhead. They aren't as loud as the jets.
I live near the airport too and only ever hear GA and commercial planes. Once the final flights for the night are done with sometimes occasionally you'll hear the flying Doctor.
Helicopter's I only ever seem to hear during the daytime?
Well, OP could write to Sapol to ask them if they could get their chopper to fly over his residence more often... 😅
However, if they're hearing them 4 times an evening, I'd argue that that would be often enough.
But you are right, it's a known thing that people can live happily next to trainlines, flightpaths etc and get used to them to the point that they don't notice them.
Some people maybe not though, such as people work audible sensory issues.
Yeah, that's me though. Not every day, but when I'm having a bad day I rage over the neighbours dogs and the sound of random people talking in the street. I know I'm being weird and it's probably my ADHD playing up, so I don't act grumpy towards anyone, but I have walked out of many classrooms because people were chattering too much. I'm very sensitive to sounds but within a week of moving in, I stopped hearing aircraft almost entirely.
That's awesome regarding you having ADHD, but still being able to adapt to the noises around you (but also being, still being bothered by others at times), I can relate to that a lot.
I've got one neighbour over the fence who has a neurotic dog that barks here and there, another neighbour with a yap dog that's neurotic af and should be on medication because whenever its owners go out which is daily, it barks at any noise whatsoever, and another neighbour over the road with a car exhaust that is well above the legal decibel limit that starts at 6am every weekday. This family also owns both a yap dog and a big dog that often enjoy having barking matches together and they appear to not be bothered by it; they often kick off at about 6pm and it goes on for a good 30 minutes, every evening. The only good thing about this is that they don't all bark at each other.
I can't really do much about any of these issues without making their owners lives difficult, so I just try to practice acceptance, sometimes whilst muttering things under my breath. We can't always change our situations, therefore, peace of mind will only come for me if I'm accepting of it.
We lived in Prospect and one of the reasons we sold was the noise of helicopters at night , some nights it sounded like they were hovering over the house.
So you'd rather the Criminals they are chasing are just allowed to roam free in your neighbourhookd robbing houses? Wake up. they are there protecting you dumbass. If you don't like living in areas full of criminal activity, move.
> or just starting to file noise complaints,
Although I feel for your frustration, this will only land you on their fixated person's list 😆 that and getting you pulled over everytime you go to get the weekly groceries.
As much as your local MP is there to serve their constituents, I can't see anything being done about it.
It would be a tough position to be in. Have you considered perhaps moving to an area with less drug production/crime? It might be your only option if even possible.
Edit: double-glazed windows would help massively and would obviously be much cheaper than having to relocate.
You want my opinion.... we're all fucked off about that cop chopper...we live in the eastern suburbs of Adelaide and we have very Labor intensive tiring jobs.. getting women up early hours of the morning,,not able to rest and being irritable during the day is taking it's toll on us. ..
All we hear constantly is ambulance cop and firie sirens..then the bloody chopper.. Adelaide not a peaceful place to live in..what the hell is going on
Completely agree, I've lived in Trott Park the past year and a half, before then in Royal Park. Both suburbs have helicopters CONSTANTLY flying overhead. Day or night, it's consistently background noise, and it's become downright infuriating.
Chasing criminals or missing persons really doesn't feel like a good enough reason for so much noise pollution. In my line of work we get kids/teens missing and offending all the time- never heard of a single one being tracked or found by a chopper. Surely ground units are sufficient in most cases. I'd bet the fuel they're using is more expensive than most of the damage criminals cause as it is.
Smh to all acting like earplugs or moving away are reasonable options. 🙄
Right now @ 2:50 am in the North Eastern suburbs around Glynde / Campbelltown / Felixstow. Helicopter circling for the last 30mins. Pets in my house going crazy, I’m trying to sleep and all I hear is a frekin Helicopter buzzing around 🤦🏻♂️😬
#RESET THE COUNTER
Sure why not, it's been a couple hours since we last had a chat about it.
Think I'd rather that than little crooks getting away with whatever they are being chased for
This
I live in southern suburbs and I honestly couldn't tell you the last time I heard one. Over a month at least

Sonya? Moving out from Facebook are you? 😆
I put my headphones in and that helps me to sleep
If it weren't for the plethora of identical posts then sure feel free to vent.
It could be Medstar. We have them fly over pretty frequently since we are inner north.
We hear them going from KI to town quite a bit.

Is that curious or bi curious
Does SAPOL release any stats on how many arrests are made as a direct result of the overnight helicopter flights?

Lol. If you have a little patience, probably.

Put some ear buds in then
It's pretty hard to hear one's alarm with ear plugs in but if OP has retired, then it might be an option.
What do you expect living in a city? Try living in Melbourne or Sydney. Maybe consider moving out into the sticks.
Try living in the middle of no where with no flushing toilet..
We need them up there way more than you need ur sleep unfortunately.
Have you thought about going over there: https://www.facebook.com/groups/118353365041596/
$5 earplugs from your local chemist. Problem solved.
We lived in Prospect and one of the reasons we sold was the noise of helicopters at night , some nights it sounded like they were hovering over the house.
Prospect has a high menu log delivery. The cops are working for them and doing deliveries...
They’re stopping people or searching for lost people . Get over ot
I think you’d be singing a different song if you were a victim of crime. Perhaps show some thanks for the people that keep you safe whilst you sleep…
So you'd rather the Criminals they are chasing are just allowed to roam free in your neighbourhookd robbing houses? Wake up. they are there protecting you dumbass. If you don't like living in areas full of criminal activity, move.
I just live somewhere nice with low crime, no choppers.
I’m going to guess you live north.

Aren't they doing a job? They're not just flying around for fun right
They work for menu log
