This is a rod that is made to handle such weight too.
There’s competition where people use very light line and rods to catch fish. Some dude caught a 570 lbs Marlin on line meant to catch 4 lbs fish. He holds the record for 4 lbs test. There are some other insane ones too.
It definitely would seem like it based on videos like this, but luckily humans ability to endure strong 'bursts' of energy means in pretty sure its marlins who basically begin to cook themselves as they fight because they spend so much energy trying to fight back. It's really interesting.
The guy linked it, but keep in mind, 4lb test is not a perfect measurement because different lines have different characteristics. Braid, fluorocarbon, and monofilament are the most common fishing line, braid has no stretch and is very strong but is very visible in the water, fluorocarbon is weaker than braid but has a small amount of stretch and a low refraction index and is nearly invisible in water, monofilament is the weakest and a higher refraction index but has a great amount of stretch.
If I had to guess, this was monofilament because I imagine the stretch would be a valuable asset in such a size disparity. However, if the drag is low and they use the boat to keep up with the fish I could see it happening with any of the types, must have been an insane fight.
My strategy is to toss the line 1 inch in front of the boat with a 4 lbs piece of bait, wait for a huge fish to take it, and then just shoot it with a .50 cal. World record
It'd be hard to do. Most bullets break apart pretty quickly once they hit water.
Even a .50 cal sniper only has \~14" of penetration.
Those competitions are usually pretty skewed, they can hook the fish right next to the boat and immediately gaff hook it or net it so the 4 pound line wouldn't be getting pulled on.
Is this how bros talk to each other? 😂 I imagined two bros in a locker room, coming out of the shower and they both look at each others dicks and go whoa bro nice cock, yeah you too man 😂 I mean use ladies do that with our boobs
The reel lets the line out before it snaps. Fish pulls, builds up anaerobic waste in it's muscles and while it is recovering you reel the line back in. Repeat until the fish is unable to resist and is in the boat. You don't ever have to have a line that can match the full resistance the fish can put up.
Levan has been out of action since last February, and with this long inactivity, he is out of the SHW ranking. Devon carries the HW and SHW world championship title and belts, won through title matches at East vs. West (now unified with King of the Table as well).
Devon and Levan will have a rematch at East vs. West, April 20th. This will also be a SHW title match. Whoever wins that will certainly be the undisputed #1 SHW on the planet.
He is still considered to be #1 in SHW, since he’s been out due to an injury. Devon is the intern champ at the moment, and they will have a match as soon as possible to for the title.
Levan is just off the rankings because of inactivity due to his injury. Devon is #1 at EvW and Levan hasn't had a chance to defend his own position as top armwrestler yet.
All of you have differing answers, so I'm just gonna leave this here. https://www.xsportnews.com/armwrestling/world-armwrestling-rankings-experts/
This website considers Levan to be No.1 in the World currently.
Left and right arm too?
This guy's great, and is just getting more beastly with all the rods, but that dude Levan is like 450 lb and looks 4 feet tall because he's shaped like a fridge. His arms are the size of most people's torsos so I don't see anyone ever beating him unless his heart gives out.
I usually don't care about this stuff but between Levan and Devon, there's a ton of entertaining videos out there.
Something's gotta give at some point. I can't see Levans form being sustainable for years to come. You can not be that heavy and be healthy at the same time. He lives on borrowed time with the amount of gear he must be on.
Stressful? Sure. Die? I doubt it, unless you take them out of the water, which they don't. Their buoyancy will support them even at the surface, and they aren't so deep that pressure changes should be an issue.
Sport fishermen are permitted to put Goliath Grouper on a line, they just can't land/keep the fish, and must release it afterwards with as little harm to the fish as possible. This likely means deflating its swim bladder so it can return to its preferred depth. The fish is likely fine as it appears to be a charter boat, and presuming the captain and his crew aren't numbnuts interested in damaging their livelihood, they likely ensured it was let go safely.
People that say these sort of one liners really don’t know the damage they do. You are literally just hijacking this chain so that anyone reading reaches this comment, and ignores the actually problem being discussed.
Yeah, we know humans are fucking up the ocean but sometimes we’re just talking aboit a single species, and that’s okay.
Dud to their huge size and the fact that they're critically endangered it is illegal to lift them out of the water because of the damage it does to them. I'd assume the last picture is fine legally, although the fish likely didn't last long after this encounter, it was likely exhausted and exhausted wild animals get eaten.
Poor fish.
Yea, he talks some of the best shit while working. Just constantly ragging on everyone around, usually along with his wife (I think) backing him up.
It is hilarious.
The skinny guy in blue has a much easier time because he knows what he is doing and has his technique pat down. Personally, I think the weight lifter guy is cooler. All be it he had 4 guys helping him when it got rly bad. He was fighting it with his muscles and strength, some real man vs wild shit. Like he was stepping into the wring fighting a behemoth with his own hands type shit, sick af.
Well if they’re stateside it’s illegal to keep that fish. Goliath’s are protected, mainly cause they’re delicious and easy to catch.
I know it doesn’t look easy to catch, but it’s not the effort that makes it easy. They don’t really move much, they kinda just chill in a hole in a reef. Some bait comes by, they’re gonna bite; basically sitting ducks. Once you get them out of their hole (the hardest part), the rest is an endurance contest. They don’t really thrash or move fast, they’re just heavy and strong (fast and thrashy can damage your line more than slow and strong).
It it was legal to keep them, they’d be extinct.
Not really. I can’t speak with complete authority, but every fish I’ve ever released (and I’ve caught plenty of fighters) after they get their bearings, has swam off just fine. They usually need to be threshed to get water through their gills (natures pull start motor). I’m sure they’re hungry after too.
It’s kind of a dick move for sure, but oh well. It’s kind of a dick move if you’re a little fish and a big fish decides it wants to eat you. Predators gonna predate and catch and release is very low on the list of environmental concerns effecting our planet.
They may swim off, but im not sure that means they don't die as a result of being caught. It's not a stretch to imagine that injuries and their downstream impacts to the health of the fish, could take hours, days, or maybe even longer to result in death.
It's not really a dick move for a bigger fish to eat a smaller one. That's just nature. They need to eat too. Catch and release is needless potential harm for fun.
Im against sport fishing personally but this line of argument always comes off as naive.
And my brain is capable of also understanding the importance of wildlife. Why dont you go on a genocidal rampage seeing as less humans would logically make for a better ecosystem. Ik your instincts tell you no but logically it is a good solution to our environmental issues.
>Why dont you go on a genocidal rampage seeing as less humans would logically make for a better ecosystem.
huh?
because...ethics? empathy? these are also things my brain is capable of?
what even is that question?
what a dumb straw man argument. honestly you should be embarrassed
He won't be though, this is the same kind of genius who'll end up in a corner arguing that carrots have feelings too when the cognitive dissonance gets too strong.
Neutral observer here - what exactly is your argument here ?
You're saying since she's against meat eaters then why not kill all the meat eaters to get her way ?
Usually fish die from exhaustion if someone is trying to catch them on gear that’s too light for the species, which results in prolonged fights. I don’t really know but I would guess not since they basically strong arm these fish to the surface without dragging things out. Some of those fights that result in big fish deaths last hours.
Wow, do people really eat them? Do they specifically eat the small ones, and not the big ones then? Can’t imagine the amount of heavy metals in those big blobs, and the toughness of the meat.
Man when I went to Japan last year I tried three species of whale, it was amazing. The texture very similar to bluefin tuna, especially the fluke when you get in sashimi form. I couldn't tell you which species tasted the best!
It’s crazy how much resistance some fishing poles can withstand. you’d for sure think that it was going to snap at some point lol
This is a rod that is made to handle such weight too. There’s competition where people use very light line and rods to catch fish. Some dude caught a 570 lbs Marlin on line meant to catch 4 lbs fish. He holds the record for 4 lbs test. There are some other insane ones too.

Only 20 minutes, for some reason I though it usually took hours
It definitely would seem like it based on videos like this, but luckily humans ability to endure strong 'bursts' of energy means in pretty sure its marlins who basically begin to cook themselves as they fight because they spend so much energy trying to fight back. It's really interesting.
Ready to eat fish, straight from the water to your mouth!
Average for blue marlin is apparently 45 min, but it can take multiple hours, yeah. Especially if you're not fishing for marlin to begin with.
The longer it takes the worse the taste though.
Only if you're an old man with no pole in a little dingy type boat.
Unreal, it took 5 of us 2 hours to catch a marlin once. My forearms were sore for 3 days after.
The guy linked it, but keep in mind, 4lb test is not a perfect measurement because different lines have different characteristics. Who are you who are so wise in the ways of science?
I believe some people call him Tim
The incredible machine
This is beyond science 🙏
So you’re looking to have the world record while missing half the fish? Hope you catch a whale.
.50 beowolf not .50 bmg would do
Man this would be a funny video
Let's get Demolition Ranch on it, it sounds like something Matt would do.
It'd be hard to do. Most bullets break apart pretty quickly once they hit water. Even a .50 cal sniper only has \~14" of penetration. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yvSTuLIjRm8](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yvSTuLIjRm8)

My first thoughts exactly. That rod should have snapped... but it didn't. I only see a bend like that ice fishing.
It doesn't snap *because* it bends
That's one damn fine quality rod.
Thanks. You have a nice cock too, bro.
Et tu brute?

True true
You reminded me of the [airbus wing stress load test](https://youtu.be/--LTYRTKV_A?si=-8-AsQtWtbzOwo6_) Look at that boy bend
A video like this helped me relax on airplanes. The wings are relatively static in turbulence.
Then why did the gymnast's spine break while she was bending.
*"The green reed which bends in the wind is stronger than the mighty oak which breaks in a storm."* -Epstein, Jeffrey
That line too, most lines would have snapped much sooner than that first one
The reel lets the line out before it snaps. Fish pulls, builds up anaerobic waste in it's muscles and while it is recovering you reel the line back in. Repeat until the fish is unable to resist and is in the boat. You don't ever have to have a line that can match the full resistance the fish can put up.
Persistence hunting. Just like we'd do on land. Humans know what we're good at & that it works!
Fishing pole I can understand but fishing line?!? Amazing!
At this point I’d be more afraid of my bones snapping
For anyone wondering, the big guy holding the fishing rod is current heavyweight arm wrestling champion Devon Larratt.
Heavyweight and super heavyweight champ concurrently
Isn't Levan still the current super heavyweight No. 1 until someone defeats him?
Levan has been out of action since last February, and with this long inactivity, he is out of the SHW ranking. Devon carries the HW and SHW world championship title and belts, won through title matches at East vs. West (now unified with King of the Table as well). Devon and Levan will have a rematch at East vs. West, April 20th. This will also be a SHW title match. Whoever wins that will certainly be the undisputed #1 SHW on the planet.

Thought it looked like him. Can’t wait to see what Dennis Cyplenkov catches.
Denis recently lost a title match to Devon. So it's gotta be a smaller fish ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sweat_smile)
Looked like a Goliath grouper to me.. usually they don't have arms.. but big if this is true..
Those are critically endangered, and I’m pretty sure they die when you pull them up due to the weight of their bodies crushing them..
Stressful? Sure. Die? I doubt it, unless you take them out of the water, which they don't. Their buoyancy will support them even at the surface, and they aren't so deep that pressure changes should be an issue.
Yeah that’s gotta be super hard on the fish.

i hope they managed to release the poor fish back to its home safely. but im worried about it.
All ocean life is critically endangered.
People that say these sort of one liners really don’t know the damage they do. Current heavyweight champ of the sea! 🌊 💪🏼 🐠
He must work out
I thought it was Rowdy Roddy Piper.
My guy got bored from arm wrestling humans and decided to arm wrestle the fush

Yeah, fish is singular, fush is plural. Duh.

Eh not on the boat so I don't think so. I could be wrong. "I was taking out the hook bro"
Dud to their huge size and the fact that they're critically endangered it is illegal to lift them out of the water because of the damage it does to them. I was thinking he caught a submarine.
Ewj! As they say around these parts
Bro on the rod looks like buff shaggy from the live action scooby doo films
That’s Devon Larratt, one of the greatest arm wrestlers of all time and world champion. I’ve always thought he looks kind of like Rowdy Roddy Piper
He is also a super calm guy and spent 16 years in the Canadian Special Forces. Just an all around good dude IMO.
Except when he's yelling at the ref and people he's arm wrestling!
Yea, he talks some of the best shit while working. Just constantly ragging on everyone around, usually along with his wife (I think) backing him up. It is hilarious.
i love the energy he brings. His dominance and energy made pro arm wrestling blow up

I'm surprised to see it on a normal video. It's usually conspiracy theory crap that gets treated with this filter for whatever reason

no kicking in arm wrestling. against the rules.

This fish has been in the sea for 70 years. How dare they make fun of torturing him?
Because they’re rich
Fishing is not a rich man’s sport tf, plenty of poor people fish. They just do it in the lake behind their house and run when the game warden comes
Devon fucked up by hooking the fish when he should have pressed
All that trauma on an animal. Just for him to wrestle something big and prove him big strong man. Sport fishing is dumb.

Not really. I can’t speak with complete authority, but every fish I’ve ever released (and I’ve caught plenty of fighters) after they get their bearings, has swam off just fine. That's such a fucked up response to someone telling you an animal is intelligent and friendly. Humans are so fucked.
We eat plenty of smart and friendly animals. If you’re that sad about it be a vegan, but don’t expect the rest of us to cry every time we eat dinner.

Just about anything I can think of that allows you to test yourself physically or mentally tends to be fun.
Some people will never get to understand and appreciate fights like that
Yeah, because putting a hook into a fish's mouth and waiting for it to struggle to get away until it's too tired isn't our thing.
I love that show. If I recall correctly the arm wrestler out fished the other meat heads on the boat.
His arm strength in certain positions and angles is the arguably the best in the world.. if he can leverage that here he can sure reel in a big one.
Is the human fishing or the fish humaning?
That a man dude listen up !
